Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Adrian Monk's life is dominated by obsessive behavior and persistent compulsions which subsequently intensifies when his wife is murdered. Does Adrian ever find out who killed his wife?

Answer: Yes

In the last two episodes of the series "Monk", the group gets a case that ties into the past. Through this case he is able to discover who killed his wife. According to IMBD these last two shows broke T.V. viewing records "For Most Watched Episode ever of a Regular Drama Series in Basic Cable".

There were "9.4 million" viewers glued to their sets to see the end of this series! I did not mention the killer on purpose as I didn't want to spoil the plot for anyone.
2. Jason Grey-Stanford plays the role of Lieutenant Randy Disher on the television series "Monk". He is an ambitious young man with a bit of naivety mixed in. His character adds quirky comedy to the show. What happens to Randy Disher at the end of the show?

Answer: He takes a job as Chief of Police in Summit, New Jersey

Randy has been secretly dating Adrian Monk's former assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram) who had to leave the employ of Monk so she could tend to matters back home in New Jersey. The two love birds eventually get married and Randy accepts the Chief's position on the police force in Summit, New Jersey.
3. The series was set in San Francisco but where did the majority of filming take place for the pilot episode?

Answer: Vancouver, British Columbia

Apparently the casting for the main character, that of Adrian Monk, was quite a challenge for the development crew. They started trying to get this idea into production back in 1998 and finally they were able to shoot the first episode in 2001 on location at Vancouver, British Columbia.
4. Due to Monk's mental state after the death of his wife, he was let go from the police department where he worked as a detective. Did Monk ever *permanently* return as a detective to the San Francisco Police Department?

Answer: No

He continues to be a consultant for the police department to aide in the solving of crimes and help the victims find closure. This decision comes only after being urged by family to stay with it and solve crimes in Trudy's honor.
5. What was the original theme song for "Monk", which was only used for the first season?

Answer: "Monk! America's Favorite Defective Detective"

Jeff Beal wrote the original tagline and it was played by Grant Geissman. The theme song won an Emmy in 2003 for "Best Main Title Music" and even though it won the Emmy they changed their tagline for the next season, Go figure!
6. Adrian has one brother named Ambrose who also suffers from anxiety disorders. What fear does Ambrose suffer from?

Answer: Agoraphobia

Ambrose hasn't left his childhood home since 1971. His agoraphobia is a fear of public places and stimuli which might cause panic attacks and for him, it is quite severe. He has heightened mental acuity as well and his memory recall. Ambrose's deductive reasoning skills are exceptional, if it weren't for his crippling fear of leaving the house he and Adrian would have made an unstoppable crime fighting team.
Anglophobia is the fear of England or English culture. Agateophobia is the fear of being insane. Acarophobia is the fear of itching or of insects that cause itching.
7. What character does Traylor Howard play on the television show "Monk"?

Answer: Natalie Teeger

Traylor plays the role of Natalie Teeger. Natalie was left a widow after her husband Mitch was killed in Kosovo, working as a fighter pilot for the Navy. She and Mitch have one daughter named Julie. Natalie is working as a bartender to support her family and is having trouble with men breaking into her house.

She calls the police and Monk is called in to help solve the crime. He asks Natalie to be his assistant to fill the void after Sharona, his former associate, left his employ unexpectedly. Natalie is accepts the job offer and is now Adrian Monk's personal assistant.
8. "Monk's" theme song was changed for the start of the second season. Do you know what song they changed it to?

Answer: "It's a Jungle Out There"

This theme song was written by Randy Newman and had lyrics that were more closely correlative to Adrian Monk's anxieties and compulsions towards the world that he has to interact with. "It's a Jungle Out There" became the theme song at the beginning of the second season of "Monk" and won an "Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music".
9. Captain Stattlemeyer is a good friend of Adrian's and at one time they were partners on the force together. The Captain worked hard to help Monk get reinstated to the police force, but never succeeded at getting this accomplished. Which actor plays this character on the show?

Answer: Ted Levine

The man portraying Captain Stattlemeyer was born Frank Theodore Levine, but to his friends and coworkers he is Ted. He describes himself as a "hillbilly Jew" and his big break came when he landed the part of Buffalo Bill on "Silence of The Lambs". I personally enjoyed watching him portray the frustrated Captain Stattlemeyer on "Monk" and will miss that character very much.
10. In the episode "Mr. Monk Gets Married", an old letter is found which is written by a Gold Rush prospector alluding to his hidden stash of gold. Where did the prospector hide his gold?

Answer: In his personal journals

"Mr. Monk Gets Married" was aired on February 15, 2004. This episode was about an old prospector named Joshua Skinner who found a large vein of gold while out panning. He took the gold back home and hid it. Joshua wrote a letter with hints and clues as to the hidden gold's location, stating that the "answer was in his journal" As it turned out the gold was literally "IN" the journals.

He melted the gold down, added black ink to it and used it to write with. "It was scripted for an actor to reveal the estimated worth of the journals to be around six million dollars", however that part of the film was cut during editing.

In my opinion this episode had one of the funniest scenes ever written during the series. It is definitely a must watch episode!
