Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the mini-series, roughly how long has it been since humans had contact with the Cylons?

Answer: 40 years

The Cylons were created by humans to make their lives easier. However, the Cylons rebelled and a bloody war ensued. After an armistice was declared over forty years previously, the Cylons left and have not been seen or heard from by humans since.

When the Cylons finally appear at the diplomatic station set up by humans to maintain contact, it is revealed that Cylons have now developed the ability to appear human.
2. What is to become of the Battlestar Galactica once it is retired from active service in the Colonial Fleet?

Answer: It is to become a museum.

Galactica is one of the older ships in the fleet and saw service in the original Cylon War. It is being decommissioned to be turned into a museum.

Crucially, as a result of this and the fact that Commander Adama has refused to allow its computers to be networked, it is not affected by the Cylon computer virus which disables the rest of the fleet. It also has a number of older style vipers as museum pieces, which are similarly unaffected by the Cylon virus.
3. What Cylon model is involved in a relationship with Dr. Gaius Baltar?

Answer: Number Six

Dr. Baltar is a brilliant scientist working for the Ministry of Defense of the Twelve Colonies. He is seduced by the beautiful Number Six, unaware that she is a Cylon designed to mimic a woman. She helps him with his work of the new defense mainframe, convincing him she works for a computer company which will exploit certain aspects of the system for future contracts. In fact, the entire system is compromised and is turned against the Colonial military as a precursor to the massive Cylon nuclear bombardment of the Twelve Colonies.

When the nuclear attack occurs, Number Six saves Baltar by shielding him from the blast with her body.
4. In what capacity does Laura Roslin attend the Galactica decommissioning ceremony?

Answer: Secretary of Education

Before leaving Caprica for Galactica, Secretary Roslin learns that she has terminal cancer.
5. Saul Tigh is the Executive Officer aboard the Galactica. What rank does he hold?

Answer: Colonel

Colonel Tigh has a bit of drinking problem, to say the least.
6. Who gives up their place on the raptor to allow Baltar to be evacuated from Caprica?

Answer: Helo

The raptor had made an emergency landing on Caprica to repair when several survivors of the Cylon assault appear. Boomer and Helo agree to take the children and a number of the adults chosen by lottery but when Helo spots Baltar he volunteers to stay on Caprica so that the brilliant Baltar can escape. Ironic, considering that the attack could never have occurred without Baltar's actions.
7. When the rest of the government fails to check in according to emergency procedures, Laura Roslin realises she has been elevated to the presidency of the Twelve Colonies. How far down the list of succession was she prior to the Cylon attack?

Answer: 43rd

The scene in which Roslin is sworn in as president of the Colonies aboard the renamed Colonial One is extremely reminiscent of the swearing in of Lyndon B. Johnson aboard Air Force One following the assassination of President Kennedy.
8. What is Lieutenant Kara Thrace's call sign?

Answer: Starbuck

In one of the major changes from the original 1978 series, Starbuck is a woman. However, she shares many of the characteristics of the original Starbuck.
9. Who claims to know the location of the Thirteenth Colony?

Answer: Commander Adama

Adama is determined to continue the war against the Cylons but Roslin convinces him the war is already lost and if the human race is to survive, they must flee from the Cylons.

In order to give the survivors hope, Adama tells them he knows the location of the supposed Thirteenth Colony, Earth. In conversation with Roslin later, it emerges that not only does he not know the location of Earth, he has no more reason than anyone else in the fleet to believe it even exists.
10. How many different humanoid Cylon models do we see in the mini-series? (NOTE: the answer does not include any of the models revealed in later seasons.)

Answer: Four

The first one we see is Number Six - who is never referred to by name by Baltar.

Adama reveals the smuggler Leoben Conoy is a another Cylon.

In order to save his own skin, Baltar falsely accuses Aaron Doral, the Galactica museum public relations officer, of being a Cylon and he is abandoned at Ragnar Anchorage. When the Cylons arrive at Ragnar it is revealed that Doral is, in fact, a Cylon after all. It is in this scene that we discover that Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii is also a Cylon copy.
