Doug was shown a couple of times being a club bouncer before he met Carrie. One of Doug's things he's always wanted to do was become a bartender, and he got to live that dream for a couple of days in the episode "Pour Judgement." When the IPS workers went on strike, Doug took a temporary job as a substitute teacher in "Strike Too." Doug was never a fireman, although his friend Richie was one in the show.

2. In the season 9 episode "Home Cheapo", what wasn't a reason that Carrie and Doug came up with for how Deacon and Kelly were able to afford their vacation home?

Answer: they saved up for it

Deacon and Kelly saving up for it was the actual reason they gave Doug and Carrie for being able to afford the house, but we later find out that it actually was a "botched" surgery.
