Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Prior to the change in eligibility requirements in 2007, the at-home contestants participating in The Phone Home Game were still eligible to be on-air contestants.

Answer: False

The at-home contestants were considered on-air and were thus ineligible.
As of November 2007, the rule has changed, so that if a contestant appeared on the show more than 10 years ago, that person can be a contestant again.
2. What is the name of the very end of the show?

Answer: Showcase

Many people believe that it is called the Showcase Showdown, but that is not true. The Showcase Showdown is when three contestants spin the Big Wheel and try to get as close to $1.00 as possible without going over.
3. What is the official name of the game where there are 50 holes and 4 prizes where a contestant can punch up to 4 holes and win up to $10,000?

Answer: Punch-a-bunch

It is a common misconception to believe that Punchboard is just as official as Punch-a-bunch. This common misconception came from the original design for Punch-a-bunch. On that design, Punch-a-bunch was rarely seen on TV and all that was shown were 10 holes with the letters p, u, n, c, h, b, o, a, r, and d printed on the front.
4. When did Golden Road debut and was it won on that playing?

Answer: half-hour episode; No

Golden Road debuted on August 19, 1975. It was the first pricing game to offer a 5-digit price. Originally, Bob did not make audience entrances when this game debuted. It was not until about 1988 when he regularly began doing audience entrances.
5. Were any of the games unnamed when they debuted on "The Price is Right"?

Answer: No

Ever since the debut of "The Price is Right", all games have been named; they just weren't displayed. The fact that the names weren't displayed led many people to believe games weren't originally named and the games Bulls-Eye '72 and Double Bulls-Eye were never named.
As a side note, Hi-Lo was the first pricing game to have its name displayed on its prop.
6. A new game was introduced on October 16, 1972. What was its name?

Answer: Most Expensive

This was the show's first three prize game. As the title implies, a contestant must pick which prize has the most expensive price.
7. On what date did the pricing game Side by Side debut?

Answer: May 10, 1994

In this game, a contestant must decide whether two numbers go to the left or to the right of two other numbers. For instance, is the price $3758 or $5837?
8. Now... or Then used to be called Now... and Then.

Answer: True

The name was changed on December 2, 1984. It was done to better reflect the choice that contestants had to made.
9. In what order did the following pricing games debut?

Answer: Bulls-Eye '72, Clock Game, Double Bulls-Eye

Double Bulls-Eye was created as a replacement for Bulls-Eye '72, which was a game in which nothing was won in any of its playings. Both these games had the concept of narrowing down on the price of a car. The main difference was that in Double Bulls-Eye two contestants were involved which in Bulls-Eye '72, like all other games, only one contestant was involved.
10. Why was Split Decision retired?

Answer: its rules were too confusing for some contestants

The "numbers falling off" incident only happened once and had nothing to do with the game's retirement. Most of the times it was played, there was a 15 second timer; however, twice it was played with the contestants getting three turns.
11. Which of these games debuted the latest?

Answer: Plinko

Plinko debuted on January 3, 1983. Money Game debuted in 1972; 3 Strikes debuted in 1976; Check Out debuted in 1982.
12. Which of these games debuted the earliest?

Answer: Shell Game

Shell Game debuted on June 17, 1974. Danger Price debuted in 1976; Check Out debuted in 1982; Make Your Move debuted in 1989.
13. How many times was Professor Price played?

Answer: 2

Those two times were November 14, 1977 and November 21, 1977. It was the shortest lived of all pricing games. It was retired because it had little to do with the main concept of "The Price is Right", which is pricing items. It was more of a trivia game.
14. Which of the following digits cannot be the missing digit for Pick-a-Number?

Answer: any number can be missing

Pick-a-Number debuted in 1992 during the 20th season of "The Price is Right". Any number can be missing even though some digits are rarely missing.
15. When did Pauline the Samoan chase Bob after being the first person to win Grand Game?

Answer: after the debut of Grand Game, but still while Bob had dark hair

This incident did not occur on the debut of Grand Game as is commonly believed but rather a later playing. This particular playing was on November 10, 1980, during the 9th season of "The Price is Right".
