Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During commentary for "Sleeping in Light," Straczynski confesses what?

Answer: He hasn't watched this episode since the series ended

He also says this at the end of his commentary on "The Fall of Centauri Prime."
2. Officially, David Sheridan is off on a Ranger training mission at the time of his father's death. According to JMS, why didn't he show David in the episode?

Answer: He wasn't sure how he wanted him to look

Straczynski actually gives two reasons: He wasn't sure how he wanted David to look, and he wasn't sure it was a good idea to introduce such a major character in the very last episode of the series.
3. In the commentary for "In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum," what does JMS apologize to viewers for?

Answer: The table in the room where Sheridan first interrogates Morden

It's funny that this bothers him, years after the fact - he apologizes that the table is too small and doesn't really work with Morden's "nice shoes" comment. He had wanted to use a bigger table, but that wasn't possible due to the size of the set they had to work with. He says the scene was originally planned for a different set, but that would have meant using the same set (redressed) for what would be three consecutive scenes.

There IS a continuity glitch regarding the picture of Anna Sheridan, who in Season 2 was played by a different actress, but no one apologizes for it. And the constant reuse/redress of sets was commented on, but never apologized for, and rightly so. They were on a tight budget but managed to work wonders with what they had.
4. Who provides commentary for Season 1's finale, "Chrysalis"?

Answer: J. Michael Straczynski

JMS provides commentary on all five season finales, actually. There is no cast commentary for any episodes in Season 1, which is kind of a bummer.
5. What did Pat Tallman say during "Movements of Fire and Shadow" commentary that she and Rick Biggs used to do?

Answer: rehearse lines together at home

She was getting nostalgic about this as she noted that a scene during this Season 5 episode was her very last one with Rick. She said his wife would watch the kids while Pat and Rick ran lines on his balcony, and when they were rehearsing for this episode, it was sad because they knew it was the last time they'd ever do it. Sad on its own, but made more sad by the fact that it absolutely WAS the last time, because Rick died in 2004. :(
6. Who remarked to three of her male costars that she had the smarts to use double-sided tape to stick her link to her hand instead of glue?

Answer: Claudia Christian

This was during cast commentary for "Geometry of Shadows" (Season 2). Jerry Doyle commented that the hair on the back of his "link" hand still hadn't grown back.
7. What did Bruce Boxleitner tell JMS about the "Deconstruction of Falling Stars" scene where (500 years in the future) Sheridan is "reprogrammed" and orders the execution of a bunch of aliens in an attempt to rewrite history?

Answer: He really enjoyed the scene

Sraczynski said Bruce REALLY enjoyed this scene, because he is usually type-cast as a "good guy" and doesn't get the chance to be a bad guy very often. He studied Hitler in preparation for filming, and during filming itself, he got into his rant so much that he would just keep right on going after the director called, "Cut!" He was excited to get a chance to stretch some different acting muscles.
8. What problem did Mira Furlan repeatedly have during the scene in "Severed Dreams" where Delenn breaks the Grey Council?

Answer: She couldn't get the staff to break

If you watch this scene, when the staff finally breaks, she is smiling just a little. Per Straczynski's commentary for the episode, this is because for several takes, she got through the monologue PERFECTLY up to that point, in one continuous shot that never cut away... and then the staff wouldn't break.

They finally had to pre-cut it for her. She did also *almost* walk into one of the remaining Grey Council members, which JMS also comments on, but she never actually did it.
9. Who provides viewers and fellow cast commentators with a definition for "apotheosis"?

Answer: Peter Jurasik

At the very top of the episode, Peter says, "Isn't the first question always, 'what does that word apothotheos mean?'" (He pronounces it wrong, too, which is funny in itself.) No one seems to have a definition at hand. Jerry suggests that Peter should know, because he's The Professor (Peter teaches acting in North Carolina.)

Several scenes later, Peter says he looked it up, and gives everyone the definition ("becoming a God.") Thanks, Peter.
10. JMS says the favorite line of the fans, hands down, across all five seasons, comes from which episode?

Answer: Severed Dreams

All of these episodes have some great lines (as do many that are not listed as choices), but Straczynski specifically comments that the favorite line of the fans comes from the scene in "Severed Dreams" where Delenn returns to rescue Sheridan and the others during the battle for Babylon 5. She states that Babylon 5 is under Minbari protection and is in turn ordered by Earthforce ships to stand down and not to force them to engage her ships. She replies:

"Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else."
11. Who joins Straczynski for commentary for "The Face of the Enemy" (Season 4)?

Answer: Michael Vejar

Vejar directed the episode, and I think the main reason for the commentary on this one was to talk about a couple of cool techniques he used - first in the scene where Sheridan is apprehended and second in the scene with Garibaldi and Bester on the shuttle car.
12. By his own admission, what is JMS's favorite opening title sequence?

Answer: Season 5

He mentions this during commentary for "The Fall of Centauri Prime."
13. Wayne Alexander is referred to by both Straczynski and Bruce Boxleitner (though in separate episodes) as their "alien for all seasons." Another cast member comments, however, that Wayne never played which race?

Answer: Centauri

Peter Jurasik specifically mentions this during "Falling Toward Apotheosis" because Wayne appears in the episode as Lorien, which draws the "alien for all seasons" comment from Bruce. Peter responds that, "He never put on the Centauri wig, though."

He also never played a Minbari. But he did appear as a Human (Mr. Sebastian, "Comes the Inquisitor"), a Narn (G'Dan, the only Narn other than G'Kar with any lines in "And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place"), a Drazi (unnamed - "Intersections in Real Time"), a Drakh (several episodes in late Season 5) as well as, of course, Lorien.
14. What did Pat Tallman tell the crew that she was selling online?

Answer: Her underwear

She told them she'd started a .com business called Lyta's Lingerie.
15. In the 3rd Season finale "Z'ha'dum", early in the episode (in Sheridan's quarters), Anna Sheridan briefly looks at a wedding photo, and viewers get a peek as well. When was this picture actually taken?

Answer: At Bruce Boxleitner and Melissa Gilbert's real-life wedding

JMS is babbling about something else and stops in mid-thought to comment, "That's a real photo from their wedding, by the way." Bruce and Melissa were married in 1995, and even though Babylon 5 couldn't pay her anywhere near her regular rates, she agreed to play Anna as a favor to Bruce (awww!).
