Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The opening scene of the episode was a fast-forward to the end of Saul Goodman's career, as we saw him frantically packing up to leave Albuquerque. Who else was with him in his office?

Answer: Francesca

This scene was a treat for "Breaking Bad" fans. It wasn't from the "Breaking Bad" series; it was filmed in 2018 using the original set of Saul's office. Series co-creator Vince Gilligan pointed out that the scene was even shot on film like "Breaking Bad" ("Better Call Saul" was shot on digital).

In the scene, Francesca, Jimmy and Kim's formerly chipper receptionist, was shredding documents as Saul prepared to call the "disappearer", as the episode's writer Ann Cherkis called the man whom "Breaking Bad" fans knew as the vacuum cleaner repairman. According to Cherkis, the business card that Saul gave to Francesca was for the disappearer, but when he handed it to her, he told her "Tell 'em Jimmy sent ya", not Saul, which made fans on social media think that it might have been Howard Hamlin's card. Jimmy also made sure that Francesca would be somewhere at "November 12th at 3 PM"; we didn't find out where, only that she would be expecting a phone call: "I'll be there but if it doesn't ring at three on the dot, I'm gone". Francesca then blew off Jimmy's offer of a hug and left, carrying the bags of shredded documents along with a couple rolls of cash. My favorite part of this scene was at the end when Jimmy was calling the vacuum cleaner repairman.

The camera angle was from behind him, from inside the hole in the wall, and the view across his office showed a glass block window, like the glass blocks at the Wexler McGill office. It was a bittersweet reminder of what he once had and where he ended up.
2. Jimmy finally snagged a customer at the cell phone store with his "Privacy Sold Here" sign. Jimmy convinced a contractor that the phones would give him privacy from whom?

Answer: IRS

Jimmy was still wandering around his store, fighting boredom, when he spotted the truck slowly driving past the store. He used his magic hex fingers to bring the truck back, and it worked! Well, not really, but the driver backed up and then parked in front of the store. Jimmy quickly went into his act, talking on a disposable phone to a customer who apparently wanted ten of the phones, but Jimmy could only get him six. Jimmy then put six phones aside with a "On Hold. Do not sell" sign on them. When the contractor asked him, "Privacy from who?", Jimmy said, "C'mon, you know who", and when the contractor asked, "Like from the IRS?", Jimmy responded with a "BINGO!" Jimmy explained that if the man had a cash-based business and didn't report all of his earnings, the IRS would know because they could check his phone transactions, "and then BAM! They bring the hammer down to Chinatown". Jimmy reeled the contractor in and then told him that the all of the phones were already promised to customers "people are gobbling these up like Tic-Tacs".

But apparently a deal was made, because the next thing we saw was the contractor walking out with the six phones.
3. Mike was meeting with engineers regarding some underground work at the laundry facility that Gus had acquired. The engineers were blindfolded and driven to Albuquerque from which city?

Answer: Denver

We saw the first interviewee, a French-speaking engineer, get off a parking lot shuttle bus with "Denver International Airport" written on it. He found the designated car in the lot, removed the key from the front wheel well, and then picked up the cell phone inside the car. Mike called him and said, "Welcome to the USA".

He then gave the man instructions to drive on I-70 West and had him stop at the side of a winding road in the mountains. Mike called again and suggested that the man "relieve himself" there because he won't have another chance for quite a while.

The man was then told to put on a hood and stand by the side of the road. "You want me to stand here with a hood on my head?" "Those are the rules," Mike replied. Shortly after he put on the hood, a van pulled up and collected him. Mike sat next to him in the back of the van, telling the man that they were going to be traveling on some rough roads.

The drive from Denver to Albuquerque takes six or seven hours on the highway, but perhaps they took the scenic route to prevent the candidates from figuring out where they were going.
4. We saw Mike meeting with two candidates for the job at the laundry. Which man was selected for the job?

Answer: German-speaking

"Breaking Bad" fans know what project the engineer would be working on, but since it wasn't mentioned in this episode, I won't mention it either. The details that Mike provided were that it would involve digging fixty-six feet down inside the laundry, working nights only with no activity visible above the surface. Mike sensed that Gus wouldn't select the French-speaking engineer - maybe because the man seemed to oversimplify the project or more likely because he wasn't discreet: "My men and I dug a tunnel under the border into downtown El Paso three quarters of a kilometer long. Undetected". Mike's phone rang right after the engineer made that statement; presumably it was Gus telling him no - "That's what I thought," said Mike, and then Mike told the man, "Thank you for your time".

The man was then deposited back at the rental car with a return ticket in his pocket. The German-speaking engineer spent a lot more time scoping out the project and emphasized the difficulty as he explained what would be needed: "With a project like this, many things can go wrong". Gus apparently liked what he heard, because instead of calling Mike, he appeared in person.

When Gus asked the man if the job was impossible, the engineer said, "Dangerous, difficult, very, very expensive, not quite impossible". Gus then introduced himself and told the man in German that it was nice to meet him.
5. Last episode, we saw Kim observing cases at the courthouse. What was she doing at the courthouse in this episode?

Answer: Working as a public defender

We first saw Kim prepping her young client for court; she lent him a tie and told him how to address the judge. She planned to get him a plea deal, but the prosecutor, Jimmy's buddy Bill Oakley, stated that "the kid threw a cinder block through a jewelry store window, and I have a witness".

But Kim pointed out that "the arresting officers took the first part of my guy's statement before he was Mirandized". She said that Bill knew that evidence was collected based on that statement and that if the judge found out, "she will rip you a new one, on the record". Bill looked uneasy and offered ten months jail time, but Kim countered with six months probation.

They kept bargaining while they were in court awaiting the judge. When Bill offered eight months jail, Kim countered this time with four months probation, and when he asked "what happened to six?", she said, "you're annoying me". Bill finally caved just as the judge was entering the courtroom.
6. The montage sequence in this episode featured Jimmy selling the burner phones to various clients at what location?

Answer: Hot dog stand

While Kim was working on the Mesa Verde case in the evening, Jimmy started to watch "Doctor Zhivago", but then he told her that he had something to do at work. We saw him go to the phone store and purchase a box full of the burner phones. After an unsuccessful stop at a laundromat, Jimmy had better luck at the Dog House hot dog stand, a location that was featured earlier in the series - Jimmy and Kim had a bite to eat there in season two. To the sounds of Randy Crawford's "Street Life", Jimmy made the rounds, selling the phones to the shady people of the night at the restaurant.
7. What happened to Jimmy after he finished selling the burner phones from the trunk of his car?

Answer: He was mugged.

When Jimmy was driving around, looking for phone customers, he first approached three teens who were standing outside a laundromat. When they told him to "beat it, narc", he asked them if a narc would drive a car like his. They didn't buy it and told him "take it back to impound, narc", so Jimmy drove off.

He apparently took their words to heart though because he next stopped at the salon where he apparently still had that room in the back and changed into a warm-up suit. While he was peddling the phones at the hot dog stand, the three teens were standing by a utility pole, watching him. Business was good until a pack of bikers pulled up and everyone left the restaurant. Jimmy started to leave but changed his mind and approached the bikers, making a final sale.

He should have left when he had the chance, because when the bikers left, the teens approached him and demanded his money. Jimmy blew them off, calling them Pee Wee, Skippy, and Scooter, but when he turned his back, they attacked him, knocking him down and kicking him repeatedly, before running off with his cash.
8. Kim's relationship with Mesa Verde bank took a hit in this episode. What specifically did Kim do that enraged Paige?

Answer: Hung up on her

One of Kim's public defender clients, Denise, didn't show up for court, so Kim got an extension and went to pick her up. While she was talking to Denise, Kim's phone rang but she didn't answer it. When Denise went inside her house to change clothes, the phone rang again and this time, Kim answered the call.

It was Paige calling about a "major error in the branch paperwork". Kim said that she could be there at four, but Paige needed her now. Kim said she was sorry, she couldn't be there and hung up on Paige.

When Kim later met with Paige, she got an earful: "Let me be very clear. The mistake is not the issue here - everybody makes mistakes. But I need to know your head is in this. You made us a promise that Mesa Verde would be your sole focus.

When we need you, we need you. We're not a client you hang up on". Kim apologized and said that it wouldn't happen again.
9. When Jimmy was at the courthouse at the end of the episode, he ran into someone looking the worse for wear. To whom did he offer Kim's therapist recommendation?

Answer: Howard Hamlin

Howard looked disheveled, completely out of character for him. Jimmy asked him if he was OK, and Howard said that he was suffering from insomnia. Jimmy then said, "I gotta ask, what's eating you?" Howard approached Jimmy as if he wanted to talk, but then stopped: "I think I've shared enough.

More than enough. Let's leave it at that". He apparently remembered the chewing out he had from Kim when he shared his thoughts over Chuck's suicide and decided not to bring the topic up again. Jimmy suggested that he see someone and offered Howard the therapist number that Kim gave him.

But Howard said he was already seeing someone twice a week. This gave Jimmy pause. After the mugging, Jimmy told Kim that he was going to call the therapist, but after seeing how bad Howard was while seeing a therapist, Jimmy changed his mind.

He tore up the note with the therapist's number and flushed it in a toilet.
10. At the end of the episode, to whom was Jimmy speaking when he said that his future plans were to be a well-known lawyer?

Answer: His pre-prosecution diversion supervisor

Jimmy was at the courthouse for his pre-prosecution diversion (PPD) check-in. The PPD supervisor confirmed that Jimmy was meeting the terms of his PPD agreement - the community service hours and gainful employment. When the man asked Jimmy if he was associating with known criminals, Jimmy said "no", despite his nighttime visit to the hot dog stand.

The man then asked a routine question about Jimmy's plans for the future. Jimmy said he had plans: "In nine months and twenty-four days, I will get my law license back. My partner and I will get a new office.

It will be like it was, but bigger and better. Everything will be better. I'm gonna have more clients and gonna win more cases. I'm gonna be a damn good lawyer, and people are gonna know about it."
