Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, Kim and Jimmy pulled a scam with Kim on crutches and Jimmy pretending to be her slacker brother. What did the scam involve?

Answer: Switching building plans for a bank branch

In the "Coushatta" episode, Mesa Verde CEO Kevin had told Kim that he really wanted to change the building design for the Lubbock branch to match the Tucumcari branch, but Kim had told him it was too late in the process to do so. But Kim had apparently decided to give it a try through unofficial means. Kim told the clerk at the Lubbock Department of Building Safety that she thought she had filed the wrong building plans, but when they compared the copy Kim had brought to the one that had been filed, the plans were the same. Kim was chatting with the clerk, and during the conversation, she mentioned that she had an eight-month-old baby and was on her own, with the help of her slacker brother Phil (played by Jimmy).

While the official plans were open on the desk, they were damaged when Phil left a leaking bag of breast milk on top of them. Since the plans were the same, the clerk said she'd just use the copy that Kim had brought, but Kim actually had two sets of plans in her blueprint tube, and she pulled out the new plans that Mesa Verde had wanted.

The clerk stamped them as official, and the scam was complete.
2. Nacho and Lalo visited Hector at the retirement home where he now lived. What gift did Lalo give Hector?

Answer: A bell

The retirement home where Hector was now living in a wheelchair was the same retirement home where Jimmy had handed out his "Need a will, call McGill" Jello cups. Lalo was initially shocked to see Hector's condition, but he quickly recovered and was his charming self when he chatted with Hector. Nacho had explained to Lalo that Hector communicated by tapping his finger for yes and "Nada es no". Lalo reminded Hector about a Hotel Tulipan, which appeared to amuse Hector. Apparently, the owner used to be a college professor and had slighted Hector, so Hector burned down his hotel. Lalo told Hector that he had returned to the site to get a souvenir, and it turned out to be the bellboy bell. Lalo attached it to Hector's wheelchair, so that Hector could use it to get attention, which he immediately did by ringing it repeatedly. Lalo then told Nacho to "go get some Jello" while he talked privately with Hector "about the Chilean". We didn't hear the conversation; all we heard was Hector's bell indicating "yes" every few moments.

Then as they were leaving, Lalo said with a smile on his face, "Same old Hector. Just wants to kill everybody".
3. Jimmy told Kim that one of the side benefits of his burner phone business was that he had ready clientele when he got his law license back. But what obstacle did he note?

Answer: His customers knew him as Saul Goodman.

Kim and Jimmy stopped at a diner on their way back to Albuquerque following their scam in Lubbock. Kim mentioned Jimmy's hearing the next day, and Jimmy pointed out that in a week, he'd be a lawyer again. He also said that he had a jump on clientele thanks to his burner phone business. "Sooner or later every last one of those idiots is gonna need an attorney. Of course they all know me as Saul Goodman". Jimmy's business cards for his phone business had listed his name as Saul Goodman, so his criminal clients wouldn't immediately make the connection with Jimmy McGill.

He also pointed out that people were going to be begging for the "Huell Babineaux treatment", but Kim said, "We should only use our powers for good". Jimmy pointed out that they had just driven to Lubbock, Texas, so that her client could have a bigger building: "How is that using our powers for good?"
4. The German engineers had one more bit of blasting to do. How was the noise from the blast disguised?

Answer: With a tractor-trailer

The German engineers were demolishing the huge boulder that was blocking the proposed elevator shaft. When they were getting ready to blow it, Kai pointed out that one of the lights on the demolition equipment wasn't lit, indicating a loose or faulty wire for the detonating charge. Werner went to check and appeared to have a bit of a panic attack while doing so: "Pull yourself together, you idiot".

But he made it to the line and was able to fix the problem. Then Mike radioed for Tyrus to go. Tyrus was driving a tractor-trailer, and when he passed by the laundry facility and ran over some speed bumps or metal grates, it created noise that covered the sound of the blast.
5. While the Germans were celebrating after the blasting, Mike noticed that Werner seemed distracted and went to talk with him. What did Werner ask for?

Answer: A visit to his wife

After successfully blasting the boulder, the Germans held a celebration in their warehouse, with Kai pouring a beer for Mike. But Mike was concerned about Werner. He had noticed Werner wringing his hands nervously during the blast, and now Werner was sitting away from the group at the warehouse.

When Mike went to sit with him, Mike told him that he needed to know what's going on. Werner confessed that he was missing his wife and that he'd never been away this long from her. He asked if he could be gone for four or five days to visit his wife.

He said that he'd leave detailed instructions, and Kai could cover for him while he was gone. Mike was sympathetic but told him: "You want to see your wife? Then finish the job". Mike pointed out that with the money he'd have when the job was done, Werner would never need to be away from his wife again. Werner agreed, calling it "a flight of fancy" on his part. Mike told Werner he could have an extra call with his wife instead, and the next day, Mike told his men to let Werner stay on the phone as long as he wanted.
6. While Gus was working on paperwork in his Los Pollos Hermanos office, his assistant manager Lyle told him that Nacho was back. Who accompanied Nacho to the restaurant and asked about franchising?

Answer: Lalo

Gus's assistant manager Lyle told Gus that he thought one of the guys who came in last year and gave them trouble was back. Gus went into the seating area and saw that it was Nacho, along with another man, whom we know as Lalo. When Gus asked them if everything was ok, Lalo raved about the chicken: "The seasoning is so flavorful".

When Lalo asked if it was possible to franchise the restaurant, Gus invited him into his office. Gus then gave a look at Nacho, who merely waved his hands as if to say "don't look at me. I had nothing to do with this".

When in Gus's office, Lalo introduced himself, but he knew who Gus was. Lalo said he was there to give him the thanks of the Salamanca family for saving Hector's life; Lalo called it "a gesture of peace".

He then tried to get Gus to bad mouth Don Eladio, but Gus wasn't biting: "I'm satisfied with the current arrangement". When Lalo and Nacho were leaving, Lalo told Nacho to show him the chicken farm where Nacho picked up his weekly shipment of product. Lalo then tossed his cup into the parking lot. That was sure to upset Gus!
7. Jimmy's interview with the reinstatement committee seemed to go well, but it turned out otherwise. What reason did the committee chair give Jimmy for not reinstating his law license?

Answer: He wasn't sincere.

Jimmy was well-prepared for his interview and appeared to impress the committee with his letters of recommendation and his knowledge of the law. When he was asked about the reason his license was suspended, he admitted that he'd thought about it extensively over the past year, and he recognized the stupidity of his actions and said that "nothing like that will ever happen again. Ever".

He appeared to stumble a bit when asked what the law meant to him, but he quickly recovered and gave a good answer about how he made it through school even though he didn't think he was smart enough; he "wasn't a natural" and "must have quit ten or twelve times".

But he was glad that he stuck to it because once he started working with clients, he realized how much help they needed navigating the complicated legal rules: "Helping our clients, arguing on their behalf - that's the best thing I've ever done".

But when Jimmy was asked if there was "any particular influence" on him, he said he had to give credit to his American Samoa Alma Mater: "Go Land Crabs!" After he left the meeting, it appeared that he was thinking of going back in, like he had during the copier salesman interview, but he refrained. Finally he saw the assistant leave, and he asked her if she would let him know what the committee decided.

She didn't answer, but the look on her face told him everything. He chased down the committee chairman and asked what he had done wrong. The man told him, "It was a question of sincerity. Some members of the committee found you somewhat insincere". As the man walked away, he told Jimmy that he was "free to apply again next year" which led Jimmy to throw his briefcase against the wall.
8. Why did Kim believe that the committee didn't give Jimmy his law license back?

Answer: He didn't mention Chuck.

Jimmy met Kim on top of a parking garage and angrily told her about the results of his meeting with the reinstatement committee. When she asked him what they said when he talked about Chuck, he asked, "What does Chuck have to do with this?" Kim told him that he could appeal the decision and told him that they would come up with a way to make him look sincere, but Jimmy lashed out at her: "You don't believe me... it's right there on your face... you look at me and you see Slippin' Jimmy". Kim denied it but told him: "You want to know why the committee called you insincere? Because you didn't mention Chuck...

They read the transcript. They know what happened. Jimmy, they were waiting for you to say something about it". Jimmy didn't see why he needed to talk about Chuck at his reinstatement hearing: "I'm supposed to make a big hairy deal about my dead brother at my reinstatement hearing? How is that sincere?"
9. While Jimmy was arguing with Kim on top of the parking garage, he accused her of kicking him while he was down. What was Kim's harsh response?

Answer: "You are always down."

After Jimmy claimed that Kim didn't support him, she told him that she had "been on your side since the day we met. Who comes running when you call? Who cleans up your messes? I have a job but I drop everything for you.... You confess to a felony on tape? I'm there. You have a bar hearing? I represent you. Over and over again. If you need me, I'm there".

After Jimmy badgered her, she said that maybe the next time he needed her, she wouldn't be there. "There you go. Kick a man while he's down," Jimmy yelled, to which Kim matter-of-factly responded, "Jimmy, you are always down".

She walked away, leaving him standing on top of the parking garage. Later when Jimmy arrived home, he began to pack up to leave, but Kim interrupted him. Jimmy was contrite: "I messed it all up".

When Kim asked him if he still wanted to be a lawyer, he quietly said yes, to which she responded, "We can start with that".
10. At the end of the episode, what did Mike discover when he arrived at the security trailer in the morning following Werner's long call to his wife?

Answer: Werner had escaped.

When Mike arrived in the morning, he noticed that there was a spot on one of the screens. His security guy told him it was dead pixels that appeared after a voltage spike - "the camera flared for about twenty seconds but it came right back". Mike wanted to see the outside cameras and noticed the same thing on one of the screens.

He took one of the men with him and they went into the warehouse. Mike found Werner's room empty and a detailed letter left on the bed. He sent his man up into the mezzanine where the food was kept, and the man found that the exit door lock had been cut.

It led to the roof, and he looked around but found no sign of Werner, which he indicated to Mike who was outside the building on the ground below. Mike found a laser pointer nearby which Werner had apparently used to cause the camera flare, allowing him to escape.
