Tim, a math teacher, was complaining to Steven that test scores were down. Tim believed that his scores would rise if he was given the new textbooks he'd asked for. Steven said the textbooks would be ordered, but Tim replied that he'd been told that three years ago.

Marlene was hitting her students with paddles. Scott told Marlene that she was not allowed to inflict corporal punishment. Marlene countered with she had been teaching for 53 years.

While in the teacher's lounge, Harvey and Marlene were talking. Marlene asked Harvey out, and added that she could bring her paddle. (She adds that her late husband enjoyed it.) Harvey then believed that Marlene was taking sexual pleasure in hitting her students with a paddle and told Scott.

Scott told Lauren that Webster had been close to Mr. McMahon, who had even recruited Webster for the chess club. Lauren would argue that a lot of students were close to the teacher, but only Webster spit on a teacher. Webster's mom would also state that Webster's father had died a year ago, which may have also contribute to Webster's action.

Steven said that the school was walking a fine line by even allowing the students to pray on campus. But when he saw Marla participating (by singing) in the assembly, he told Scott the assembly was now, officially, illegal.

Tim's wife had left him in the past week after she confronted him with a journal he had written. In the journal, he documented his sexual relationship with a student, Karen Fitzgerald. Steven confronted Karen and her parents. Although Karen denied the relationship, Tim had left her money in his will. Steven and her parents decided to transfer her from the school.

It turned out that Tim had been seeing a psychologist who told Steven and Tim's wife that Tim had been suffering from delusions - the affair with Karen never took place.

Lauren was upset because she wanted Webster expelled. And Webster's mother was upset because her son, whose grades were already low, would have a difficult time making up his schoolwork.

Steven asked Marilyn out for dinner. Marilyn didn't have a chance to respond. When Steven and Marilyn saw each other next, Steven apologized by saying it was inappropriate of him to ask.
