quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Peyton asks Mac to go on a holiday with her to what city?

Answer: London

Peyton has a conference to attend in London and suggests to Mac that he come with her, pointing out that it's not like he doesn't have plenty of vacation time accrued - in his entire time with the NYPD, he's taken less than a week off! She presents the trip as a fait-accompli, having already bought his ticket, in anticipation of him saying yes.

At the very end of the episode, he does just that.
2. The entire building that houses the crime labs was evacuated in this episode. What was the reason?

Answer: Suspected gas leak

While Mac and Peyton are talking, Mac realises that he can smell something like gas. He immediately starts evacuation procedures, going from lab to lab to make sure people are leaving the building as required. Stella sees what he is doing and comes to help and they come across a lit Bunsen burner in a lab, and wonder why it has not started a fire, what with the excess gas in the building.

This leads them to suspect that the so-called gas leak is nothing of the sort, which they confirm with GCMS analysis of a lab air sample, in which they find no traces of natural gas, but instead, just the odour-causing compound added to natural gas to give it its distinctive smell.

They realise that the forced evacuation and the fact that they have hundreds of kilograms of drugs in the lab vault is no coincidence - the drug runners want their drugs back.
3. While chaos reigns at the lab, Danny has gone down to the drug bust scene to help process it. However, when he enters the building, he realises that all is not well. Which member of the team does he find has been taken hostage there?

Answer: Adam

Adam had begun processing the scene hours ago and Danny, taking over Lindsay's shift for her (thus giving her the "snow day" of the episode title), is sent down there by Mac to help. Adam, along with two other police officers, has been taken hostage by members of the drug running gang and Danny winds up in the same situation. Burns on Adam's hand suggest he has been tortured and Danny doesn't fare much better, getting a crushed hand and a beating.
4. What is Danny's nickname for Lindsay?

Answer: Montana

Lindsay joined the New York team from Montana, and Danny teasingly refers to her as "Montana" in the episode where they first meet. Lindsay tells him in no uncertain terms how he can address her, and "Montana" is not one of the options! However, as their relationship has progressed, the nickname has become an affectionate one, with Lindsay signing off as "Montana" in a card she left for Danny before she returned to her home state to testify in the trial of the man who killed her school friends.

In this episode, Danny leaves Lindsay a note in which he calls her "Montana", letting her know that he's taken her shift for her.
5. The drug runners have infiltrated the building for the express purpose of stealing the drugs back. How do they intend to get the drugs out of the lab's vault?

Answer: By shooting their way into it.

A large-calibre weapon was retrieved from the drug bust crime scene that morning, and Mac sees one of the members of the gang take it from the lab where it was being dusted for fingerprints. Mac realises that such a large-calibre weapon has the ability to pierce armour - and metal doors like the one on the lab's vault.
6. What does Danny use to splint his broken fingers?

Answer: His NYPD badge.

Danny's hand was stomped on by one of his captors when he was seen trying to use his phone to contact someone for help. Realising that he needs to get the broken fingers straightened, Danny uses his badge as a splint, securing it in position with material torn from his shirt.
7. When Mac and Stella find themselves hiding out from the drug runners in one of the labs, they receive a message from Hawkes. Where is he?

Answer: Autopsy

Mac and Stella realise that all outside communication to and from the building is cut off; soon after, they receive a message from Hawkes on the lab's internal messaging system, which is the only form of communication still working within the building. Hawkes, not knowing what was going on, was down in autopsy when the drug runners infiltrated the building.

He is approached by one of the drug runners posing as a worker from the gas company, but Hawkes recognises the man as one of the criminals from the morning's drug bust by the tattoo on his arm.
8. After a chase through the labs, Mac manages to avoid members of the drug-running gang, one of whom is shot and killed by the leader of the group. Mac sends the body to Hawkes in the elevator with a note written on him. What does the message say?

Answer: "Find the bullet"

This particular scene is reminiscent of the movie "Die Hard" in which Bruce Willis' character sends the body of one of the dead terrorists down to the leader of the group in an elevator in order to taunt him. Mac wants Hawkes to find the bullet to see if they can use it to identify the gun from which it was fired. Luckily, since Hawkes is in autopsy, he has all the equipment he needs to find the bullet, which turns out to be a match to a bullet that killed an FBI agent some months before - a case that had gone unsolved until now.
9. What does Danny do to one of his captors to disable him?

Answer: Throws a reagent containing sulphuric acid in his face.

Soon after he's taken captive, Danny sees Adam's field kit lying open some distance away and, after asking Adam what reagents it contains, hits on the one containing sulphuric acid as their way out of the mess they're in. Danny creates a diversion, allowing Adam to race over to his kit and get the reagent.

They bide their time until one of their captors comes up to them and Danny takes him by surprise, throwing the acid in his face. The resulting scuffle ends with shots being fired, bringing the tactical team waiting outside into the building, thus ending the hostage situation.
10. How does Hawkes prevent the criminals' escape through the garage?

Answer: He blocks the stairwell door with a truck.

After Stella commandeers the elevator and makes off with the bulk of the drugs that they're trying to steal back, the drug runners decide to cut their losses and attempt to escape through the basement, only to be prevented by Hawkes' quick thinking. They run back upstairs and try to escape out through the lobby only to be greeted by a number of police officers, weapons drawn.
