Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is not a part of Mac's usual meal at his local coffee shop?

Answer: Bacon

In the beginning of this episode, Mac stops in at his favourite coffee shop for breakfast before heading to the gym. He talks with the waitress, Amy, before ordering his usual and he also talks with the woman next to him at the counter, Rose. When Amy goes to get the cash from the man at a table, she takes the paper and accidentally drops the man's concealed gun. Mac tries to take control of the situation as the man keeps Amy back with the gun, but another man in the room fires his gun to save the day (though it ricochets and misses).

The man shoots Amy in the chest and the other man in the leg before Mac takes him down. The man manages to get away, and Mac calls the police while trying to save Amy.
2. One shot in the coffee shop was fired by a man in the corner. How did he die?

Answer: He was shot in the thigh

The man who attempted to play the hero in this case was shot in the thigh. This bullet hit a major artery and the man died of blood loss. Mac tells the story to Flack and Stella and Danny and Aiden analyze the evidence. The ricocheted bullet ended up in the wall, and a straw on the shooter's table had been chewed (possible source of DNA).

There was also a man who left before the shooting began, but they are positive that he was unrelated to the crime.
3. What is the name of the shooter at the coffee shop?

Answer: Steve

Using DNA from the straw at the crime scene, the team finds a result on a man named Steve Collins, and they find a bullet in the dead victim's leg linking Steve to crimes from 2002. At Steve Collins' apartment, the CSIs find Steve's t-shirt (with blood on it) as well as tape stuck to the fabric. Also, they find an envelope containing money for rent.

The DNA on this envelope is tracked to Collins' mother.
4. Where do Mac and Stella find the shooter from the coffee shop?

Answer: In a trailer

Mac and Stella head to Steve's mother's house where she explains that she often gives rent to her son. When mac notices a cup containing a chewed straw, he realizes that something may be wrong, so he and Stella check the trailer in Mrs. Collins' backyard and find their suspect. Stella also retrieves Steve's gun from inside the trailer while Ms. Collins watches out the back window. Later, Stella and Mac head to the precinct where Steve is being questioned only to find him walking out of the building.

When they try to talk to him, he gets shot in the shoulder by someone on a motorcycle, who speeds off.
5. Who is called to test the various motorcycles to match tire marks in this case?

Answer: Flack

Mac hitches a ride in Steve's ambulance and realizes that he was an informant on someone's case (the tape on his clothes was for a wire at the coffee shop). Meanwhile, Aiden and Stella find the bullet casing shot at Steve and tire treads from the motorcycle that sped off. There is also trace from a footprint on the ground.
Later, Aiden has Flack test a bunch of motorcycles in order to match a skid mark left at the crime scene. When they match it to a Suzuki, they realize that Amy's brother, who was at the station earlier to talk to Mac, had sold a bike of the same model.
6. What is found inside Mrs. Collin's mouth when she is found dead?

Answer: Paper

Mac and Stella discover that the gun from the shooting outside of the precinct belonged to Amy's brother as well as the motorcycle which was sold.
Hawkes is sent to Mrs. Collins' house, where he finds her beaten and strangled to death. Inside of her mouth was a blank piece of paper, which is sent to the lab. It is also noted that Mrs. Collins was struck with a blunt object in the back of the head- a bloody pipe was later found down the street.
7. What substance is not found in the trace found next to the tire treads?

Answer: Citric acid

All of these substances were from objects found on the floor of the coffee shop where the original incident took place. This leads the CSIs to believe that another person was in the café and they left while Mac was helping Amy with her wound. Meanwhile, Stella discovers that the paper in Mrs. Collins' mouth was to be used as counterfeiting paper.

The CSIs realize that Steve was an informant for the secret service in charge of finding counterfeiters, much like the man who left the coffee shop without being recognized.

They investigate the money from the crime scene, and using magnets, Mac finds that the bill is fake.
8. What is the name of Amy's boyfriend?

Answer: Dennis

Mac and Stella analyze the colour-shifting ink on the fake twenty and head to Chelsea University where Professor Newlin tells them about his theoretical work on the subject. They take a look at his past assistants and realize that Dennis, Amy's boyfriend, was one of them.

When Amy is out of the ICU, she tells Mac that her brother gave Dennis the gun at one point or another, and they decide to chase after him.
9. What was the signal to Amy's boyfriend for him to leave the coffee shop?

Answer: A cough

Mac has Amy use her cell phone to call Dennis while they triangulate the signal. Mac and Stella arrive at the location to find Dennis' motorcycle (with the proper tires) outside the front door. The police bust in while Dennis is still on his cell phone, and while he and his partner (who dropped the twenty in the coffee shop) were getting cuffed, Mac found the machine used to print the fake money.
10. Who killed Mrs. Collins?

Answer: Amy's boyfriend

This is the story:
Dennis was going to meet Steve at the coffee shop to get a hold of Treasury paper for the fake twenties. He had his partner, Clark, enter the coffee shop first while he went around outside. When Amy spotted him outside, he came in and gave her his number. Steve came out of the bathroom at that time, but Mac entered the coffee shop and ruined everything. Clark gave the cough to signal Dennis that a cop entered the shop and he left.
The motorcycle outside the warehouse contained the gun, which Clark used to shoot at Steve, and Dennis used the pipe (from the counterfeiting machine) to kill Mrs. Collins as a warning to Steve. Steve on the other hand, still killed the man in the coffee shop, Adam Baxter, and he will go to court for that.
In the end of this episode, and season, Danny has his psych evaluation for the case he was involved in a few weeks earlier (in the episode "On the Job") and Hawkes considers getting involved in field work. Mac finally decides to put away his wedding ring, and goes on a date with Rose, who he saved in the coffee shop.
