Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "A Garfield Christmas," what is Garfield's gift to Grandma?

Answer: Love letters written by her late husband while they were still courting.

Garfield accidentally finds the letters out in the barn in an old box. Grandma had not seen them in years and she claims they are the best present she received.

The special premiered in 1987.
2. In a "Charlie Brown's Christmas," what causes Charlie Brown to exclaim "I've killed it!"?

Answer: He puts an ornament on the little tree, bending it over to the ground.

After everyone tells Charlie Brown he messed up by buying such a pitiful tree (they wanted a new aluminum tree), he tries to decorate it by placing one ornament on it. The ornament bends the entire tree over.

The special premiered in 1965 and was the first Peanuts special to air on television.
3. Which of the following is NOT a song sung in "'Twas the Night Before Christmas?"

Answer: "Jolly Ol'Saint Nicholas"

In later years, the song "Give Your Heart a Try" was edited out of the television broadcast but was available on the DVD version.

The special premiered in 1974.
4. What Christmas special has the following line? "Even among misfits, you're misfits!"

Answer: "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"

Yukon Cornelius states this after King Moonracer told them (Rudolph and Hermey) they couldn't stay on the Island of Misfit Toys because they weren't toys.

The special premiered in 1964. In the original broadcast, the now final scene of Santa making a stop on the Island of Misfit Toys was not included. Viewers complained that Santa was not seen fulfilling his promise given to Rudolph earlier about finding homes for the misfits so they added the final scene of actually picking up the toys.
5. In "Frosty the Snowman", Karen replied that her mother wouldn't mind if she accompanied Frosty to the North Pole as long as what happened?

Answer: She was home in time for dinner.

Seeing that Santa brings her back sometime late Christmas Eve, I would say she didn't make it. But it's a cartoon and the 60's, there was no fear of child abductions.

The special premiered in 1969.
6. What Christmas special is told by the North Pole mail carrier?

Answer: "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town"

The mail carrier, Special Delivery Kluger, is voiced by Fred Astaire and tells Santa's life story.

The special premiered in 1970.
7. According to "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town", what is Mrs. Claus' first name?

Answer: Jessica

Jessica is the new school teacher in Sombertown and first forbids Kris to hand out the toys. But she then melts once Kris offers the one thing she always wanted for Christmas, a China doll.

When the special was initially broadcast, and for years thereafter, Kris's penguin sidekick was named "Waddles." In later years, for unknown reasons, the dialogue was changed and he was called "Topper."
8. In "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", why is the Grinch so unhappy about Christmas?

Answer: It brings so much noise, noise, noise!

At the beginning of the show the Grinch complains about all the noise and lists the different noises that float up from Whoville to his home on Mt. Crumpit.

The special premiered in 1966.
9. In "A Claymation Christmas Celebration", which of the following was NOT a misinterpretation of wassailing?

Answer: Wandering

Wassailing is the practice of going door-to-door singing Christmas carols and requesting in return wassail or some other form of refreshment. Instead Herb sung along with dogs "waffling" (making waffles), geese "waddling", and pigs "wallowing"

The special premiered in 1987.
10. In "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", what of the following do we NOT discover about Bumbles?

Answer: They are afraid of heights.

We find out first that Bumbles can't swim as Yukon breaks off a piece of ice to float away on and the Bumble tries to follow. We then find out their favorite meal is pork as Yukon and Hermey try to lure the Bumble away from him cave where he is about to eat Rudolph. And finally, we find out that Yukon and the Bumble survive a big fall because Bumbles bounce.
