Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On what adventure series might Buz and Tod have stopped at a roadside diner only to find themselves helping the waitress with a problem?

Answer: Route 66

George Maharis (Buz Murdock) and Martin Milner (Tod Stiles) played two young men who traveled the U.S.A. in a Chevy Corvette. All episodes were filmed on location wherever the adventure seeking duo chose to stop for a respite.
2. On what 1950's military sit-com might Colonel Hall have tried to trick Ernie into helping put on a banquet for top brass scheduled to visit Fort Baxter?

Answer: The Phil Silvers Show

Vaudeville comic Phil Silvers starred as Sergeant Ernest Bilko in this military sit-com. He was in charge of Fort Baxter's motor pool, but always seemed more interested in making a fast buck than his Army duties, much to the frustration of Colonel Hall (Paul Ford).
3. On what series might viewers have seen Scott Norris tipped off by Pinky that mobsters are planning a heist at the Charleston Club?

Answer: The Roaring Twenties

Scott Norris (Rex Reason) and Pat Garrison (Donald May) were investigative reporters in New York City during the Prohibition era. They hung around the Charleston Club hoping to get a lead from "Pinky" Pinkham (Dorothy Provine), an entertainer who always seemed to have her ear to the ground.
4. On what western drama might Marshal Simon Fry have come into conflict with Clay McCord over whether firearms should be allowed in Silver City?

Answer: The Deputy

"The Deputy" was one of two TV series that starred movie legend Henry Fonda (the other was "The Smith Family"). The plots of this western often revolved around the conflict between Marshal Fry and the townspeople, especially McCord, over the use of firearms in maintaining law and order.
5. On what 50's police drama might have Lt. Frank Ballinger have gone undercover to obtain evidence to help convict a local crime lord?

Answer: M Squad

Lee Marvin portrayed the hard-nosed Chicago police detective and also provided the narration. "M Squad" was later re-worked into the satirical sit-com "Police Squad" which starred Leslie Neilson. They even shared the same theme music.
6. Private detectives Ken and Sandy were likely to have been seen flirting with Daphne aboard her houseboat anchored in Miami on which early 60's drama?

Answer: Surfside Six

Van Williams, who went on to portray TV's Green Hornet, and Troy Donahue played swinging bachelor P.I.s. When not girl chasing, they investigated crime in and around the Fountainebleu Hotel.
7. Which married show business couple played a married show business couple in what 1950's sit-com?

Answer: Mr. Adams and Eve

Howard Duff (Howard Adams) and Ida Lupino (Eve Drake) starred in this light-hearted comedy. The stories were based on actual situations this couple experienced.
8. "Mr. Anthony locates a benefactor of J. Beresford Tipton only to have the bequest refused" might have been a story line of which 1950's drama series?

Answer: The Millionaire

Marvin Miller (not to be confused with actor Martin Milner) portrayed Mr. Anthony, the personal secretary of millionaire Tipton. His seemingly endless task was to locate a randomly chosen recipient of a check for one million dollars, then observe to what use the money was put. Like Charlie Townsend in "Charlie's Angels", Tipton was never seen.

However, his voice was provided by Paul Frees.
9. Which science fiction show depended less on a "space opera" format and depended on a more realistic depiction of space exploration?

Answer: Men Into Space

William Lundigan played intrepid Colonel Edward McCauley, the only regular cast member. His weekly duties included solving problems with the moon base, space ships and/or the people that manned them.
10. What 1960's sit-com revolved around a once wealthy socialite who decided to turn her 60-room mansion into a boarding house to pay her debts?

Answer: The Pruitts of Southampton

Quickly re-named "The Phyllis Diller Show", Phyllis played the over-the-top dowager. Also appearing in the series was Reginald Gardiner as Uncle Ned, Grady Sutton as Sturgis the butler, Gypsy Rose Lee as nosy neighbor Regina, and Billy DeWolfe, Marty Ingalls and Paul Lynde as various boarders. Even this didn't help this faltering sit-com which only ran for one season (1966-67).
