Greendale Community College is a fictional College. Dan Harmon, the show's creator, has said that the show was based on his own experiences at Glendale Community College.

Jeff starts the study group in the pilot episode as a way to get close to Britta. He originally only invites Britta, however she invites Abed who invites the others and thus the Spanish study group is formed.

In Episode 4, of Season 1, 'Social Psychology', Professor Duncan and his students are testing how long people will wait in a room for an experiment that will never start. The experiment is ruined when Abed sits patiently for over 26 hours, outlasting the researchers.
