Answer: McClain's Law

The series ran for one season (1981-1982). Homicide Detective Jim McClain was forced to retire after being injured on the job, and being deemed unfit for police duty. McClain spent the next 15 years working with a partner on a fishing boat. When McClain's partner was robbed and killed, McClain was frustrated that the police were not doing enough to find the killer. McClain sought to be reinstated into the police department, a move the current head of homicide strongly opposed. McClain was reinstated, apprehended the killer, then chose to remain on the police department. Arness also starred in both the mini-series (1977 and 1978) and the television series (1979) on "How the West Was Won" as well as in five made-for-television "Gunsmoke" movies.
