Dangermouse: The White Wonder Trivia Quiz

Forget Doc Martens, Deutchmarks or Doctors of Music. To many children of the 1980s the letters DM stand for one thing... No not Depeche Mode. Good grief!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the theme song, what immediately followed "Danger Mouse powerhouse"?

Answer: He's the fastest

In the episode "Play It Again Wolfgang" the cast sang the closing credits. Needless to say it sounded awful.
2. What sort of animal was Penfold?

Answer: Hamster

The hapless hamster was referred to as such in many episodes. He was (in no sense) a mole as at least one book on children's TV has stated. The only rodent I know with a mole as sidekick is Secret Squirrel.
3. David Jason's real surname is rather appropriate as the voice of DM. What is it?

Answer: White

His brother Arthur White can be seen with his brother as the police archivist in TV detective series "A Touch of Frost".
4. Danger Mouse wore a patch over his left eye.

Answer: True

The series never did explain why. It never seemed to affect his visual judgment though.
5. In the surviving pilot episode, Penfold speaks with which accent?

Answer: Welsh

Just as well they changed it as the US audiences found some characters such as Jones the Dragon difficult to understand. The original pilot episode was "put somewhere safe", i.e. lost.
6. For US audiences Greenback's henchman Stiletto Mafioso's accent was changed from Italian to what?

Answer: Cockney

Nickelodeon changed the accent to avoid offending Italian sensibilities.
7. What was the name of Colonel K's secretary?

Answer: Miss Boathook

She was never seen by the viewers. Dashed queer eh what?
8. Complete the following episode title: "The Spy Who Stayed in with a ____".

Answer: Cold

Another good spoof episode title was "Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind".
9. Which member of the voice cast sadly passed away in 1994?

Answer: Terry Scott

Terry Scott, the voice of Penfold, has had various roles in film and TV since the 1950's but in the UK he will always be best remembered as Terry Medford in the sitcom "Terry and June". Oo crumbs!
10. In the episode "The Four Tasks of Danger Mouse" our intrepid hero has to obtain a feather from a vampire duck. What was his name?

Answer: Count Duckula

The talentless Count Duckula was obsessed with becoming famous. He then starred in a fun spin-off series as a much more sympathetic character accompanied by sinister Igor and huge clumsy oaf, Nanny. Perhaps there's another quiz there...
