Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There was no Detour task found in the first leg of the race.

Answer: True

Instead of having a Detour task, the first leg of the race saw the common design of having two Road Block tasks, each one having to be completed by a different team member, while the Detour was relegated to the second leg of the race. As such, teams did not need to complete a choice between one of two tasks until reaching the Yukon in Leg 2. "The Amazing Race Canada 5" was actually the first season to include a first-leg Detour in the franchise.
2. In the Yukon in Leg 2, teams completing the 'Chance' Detour had to play which of these games?

Answer: Blackjack

Heading through Dawson City, Yukon in Leg 2, teams completed either 'Dance' or 'Chance' for their first Detour. In 'Dance', teams learned a burlesque can-can at the Palace Grand Theatre, but in 'Chance', teams had to learn how to properly deal a game of blackjack at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Gambling Hall and both members had to correctly lead a table to get the next clue. Todd and Anna, Nancy and Mellisa, Courtney and Adam, Dylan and Kwame, Martina and Phil, Joseph and Akash, and Zainab and Monica completed this task before heading to the Pit Stop at the Midnight Dome.
3. The fourth leg of the race, set in Jakarta, Indonesia, saw the return of what race mechanic during the Detour task?

Answer: Double U-Turn

Teams racing through Jakarta, Indonesia in Leg 4, teams had to complete a series of cultural tasks with the knowledge that a Double U-Turn would be ahead. The Detour appeared halfway through the leg and forced a choice between 'Ular' and 'Kebaya', one task of which involved snakes and leeches and the other of which involved sewing.

Although all teams ended up choosing 'Ular', Martina and Phil and Todd and Anna had to do both sides of the Detour, having been targeted by Nancy and Mellisa and Zainab and Monica, respectively. Todd and Anna, despite finishing on the podium in the first three legs, were eliminated as a result.

As a note, the Double U-Turn found in Leg 4 was 'blind', meaning that the users would not need to be identified.
4. In Leg 5, teams completed the 'Pedal' or 'Package' Detour tasks in Stratford, Ontario. Both of these resulted in a clue sending people to the 'Queen of the...what'?

Answer: Square

In Leg 5, teams could either paddle for a puzzle on the Avon River in Stratford, Ontario or meticulously package chocolates at the Rhéo Thompson Candies facility. In the former task, teams collected images and words along the river, orienting them to form a rebus that led them to the 'Queen of the Square' in Stratford City Hall. Those completing the 'Package' side of the Detour instead received a clue simply saying the words 'Queen of the Square'.

There, teams found Jon at the mat and were told that they would be continuing directly into the sixth leg of the race with no rest period and no elimination.
5. How many teams were U-Turned in Toronto in Leg 6?

Answer: One

After Zainab and Monica used the Blind U-Turn in Leg 4 (in Indonesia), they were, ironically, the only team to face the U-Turn in Toronto in Leg 6 (as it was used by Adam and Courtney to stay ahead). Teams took the TTC to The Monkey Paw bookshop in Downtown Toronto and faced a Double U-Turn Board before their Detour sending them to a dance club to learn some moves for 'Walk the Part' or to a cafe to become baristas and learn to make some 'Latte Art'. Zainab and Monica fell far behind at this point, getting eliminated after all the tasks in Leg 6.
6. In Leg 7, teams visited Winnipeg, Manitoba. How many teams joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for a lesson during the 'Tights' Detour task?

Answer: Three

The Detour tasks in Leg 7 were evenly split as teams made their way through Winnipeg, Manitoba. Leanne and Mar, Taylor and Courtney, and Nancy and Mellisa all completed 'Tights' with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, learning intricate steps to Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' and performing them for an artistic director with two other dancers to get their next clue.

In 'Bites', the remaining three teams joined the logistics team at Skipthedishes-- a food delivery app-- where they had to pick up a smartphone, retrieve two meals, and deliver them to two different locations in the city. Upon receiving feedback from their customers they would receive their next clue.
7. In the eighth leg of the race, all teams spent their Detour working with P.E.I.'s famous crop. Which of these did they end up planting?

Answer: Potatoes

Spending the day on Prince Edward Island in Leg 8, teams took a trip out of Charlottetown to complete their Road Block and Detour and all six remaining teams ended up completing the potato-themed Detour choice on the island-- 'Spuds'. For this task, teams had to work in the potato fields of the north shore of P.E.I., tilling the soil, chopping their crops, and planting enough potatoes to fill the rows they created. If teams didn't complete 'Spuds' they would've needed to complete 'Suds', a soap-themed Detour in which they had to milk goats and identify scents.
8. In 'Mercado' in Leg 9, teams traveled through the world's largest market (in Mexico) to find ingredients for which dish?

Answer: Pico de gallo

In Leg 9, teams headed to Mexico City where a Detour sent them to either a Day of the Dead-themed task or a Mexican market. Most teams did the former, painting each others' faces in Day of the Dead styles to collect their clue. Nancy and Mellisa were the only team to complete 'Mercado', however, which sent them through Central de Abasto hunting for ingredients for pico de gallo. Once they found the ingredients, bought them, and made the dish, they could continue on.

This did prove to be the more difficult task as it sent Nancy and Mellisa to the back of the pack.
9. The Detour in the tenth leg of the race in New Brunswick gave teams a choice between tasks relating to which of these?

Answer: The military

In Leg 10, teams completed a Detour task at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Teams ended up needing to pick one of the choices knowing that the stations for each were limited; two teams could complete a task at a time. Dylan and Kwame were the only ones to complete the physically-demanding gauntlet of the 'Fit' Detour task while the other three teams completed 'Fly', piloting a helicopter using a flight simulator.

This ended up being the final Detour of the race.
10. How many legs of the race did not feature a Detour?

Answer: Three

This season of the race featured eight Detours in total, omitting Detour options in Leg 1, Leg 3, and Leg 11. There were, effectively, no Detours in British Columbia despite there being two legs there. All legs that omitted Detours instead featured double Road Blocks in which one member of the team had to complete the first and the other was required to complete the second.

The race also featured two Detours, one of which was blind. Both were used.
