1. What year does the story begin?

Answer: 1625

It is set in 17th Century France, with most of the storyline taking place in Paris. This episode, however, is set in Dogtanian's home village.

2. Francois makes a comment to Dogtanian during their first fight scene. Complete his quote: "What kind of nobleman wears _____?"

Answer: Patches

Francois La Vache is Dogtanian's rival. Monsieur La Vache is Francois' father, and the town mayor.

3. Francois' teacher is carrying two books when he sees the children. What colour are they?

Answer: One red, one green

The teacher is not an important character in the story, in fact I think this is his only appearance. I'm guessing he was included to show that Francois was properly educated, while Dogtanian was taught by his father.

4. When the teacher hears that Francois and Dogtanian have been fighting again, he says "You must behave more like a ____ son.".

Answer: Male

The teacher does not think that it is appropriate for the mayor's son to be brawling with Dogtanian. He tries to stop them from fighting, but to no avail.

Dogtanian looks untidy, and has patches on his clothes, so the Muskateer thinks that he is Dogtanian Senior's servant.

He tells Dogtanian that to fight effectively he could not just rely on his eyes, he had to use all of his senses.

The mayor's wife comes to visit Dogtanian's mother about their sons' fighting. She says that it is all Dogtanian's fault, and that she wants him kept away from Francois.

Dogtanian's father makes a joke about Monsieur La Vache, and his wife scolds him, telling him that the mayor spent all day playing cards. This is an odd conversation - it probably suffered in the translation from Spanish to English.

Dogtanian has stolen the armour to play a trick on Francois. A trick which defies all the laws of science - he sits in a tree suspending the armour from string, while it whirls round all over the hill!

Dogtanian says that it is seven against one when he jumps out of the tree. The other six dogs all make a hasty exit though, once they see how strong Dogtanian is.

They mostly mumble as they run away, but one of them clearly says "er... I have a clavichord lesson" before he leaves.

King Henry IV, to be precise. The current king of France was named Louis, but Dogtanian's father was talking about his youth, so Louis was probably a direct descendent.

Dogtanian does not have an address of somewhere to stay because he is assuming that Monsieur de Treville will give him lodgings once he reads the letter and knows who he is. However, the letter is stolen in a later episode, and Dogtanian has nowhere to go.

14. The last time Dogtanian sees Francois, he has a plaster (band-aid) on him. Where is it?

Answer: His cheek

Although his fights with Dogtanian always end up with him getting a lump on his head, Francois, for some reason, has a plaster on his cheek now.

15. Who is the last person to say goodbye to Dogtanian as he leaves for Paris?

Answer: Francois

Francois and his friends have gathered at the edge of the town to see him off. They mock him at first, then all wish him luck, showing that they do really like him, despite all the fighting.
