Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Captain Yellow searches for a Dragon Ball in the center of a volcano. How many stars does it have?

Answer: Four

Out in the west, Captain Yellow leads his own faction of the Red Ribbon Army in the search for a Dragon Ball in the center of an active volcano. Taking a helicopter into the crater to retrieve it, they unknowingly anger the local gods. Natives Bora and Upa, a father and son, end up intercepting the Dragon Ball as it flies five miles away, and when General Yellow discovers the valuable item in his possession, a gunfight ensues. Of course, Bora won't give it up; he withstands their gunfire and defeats the group (and their helicopters) while Yellow gets away.
By the time Goku arrives, however, General Yellow has kidnapped Upa for use as a bargaining chip. He's able to stop Yellow (with a punch to the face), save Upa, and receive the four-star Dragon Ball, the very one his Grandfather gave him.
Commander Red decides to send Mercenary Tao to kill him. General Blue, having been thrown out to the desert, vows to get back at Goku...somehow. He finally gets back to the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters.
2. Mercenary Tao ultimately kills General Blue and which other character?

Answer: Bora

Although General Blue makes it back to the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters with the Dragon Radar, Commander Red forces his former underling to do battle with the notorious assassin, Mercenary Tao. This quickly ends with the death of Blue, who long used his strength and powers to keep Goku at bay, and oddly by Mercenary Tao's tongue.

The plan following this battle is for Tao to make his way out to the Land of Korin (which he does by riding a broken piece of a stone column into the sky); when he arrives, he stands in the way of Goku, Bora, and Upa, ultimately killing the eldest of the three in short order, with his own spear, and leaving Upa orphaned.
3. Which of these powerful attacks does Mercenary Tao use on Goku?

Answer: Dodon Ray

To Goku's surprise, Mercenary Tao is a worthy and powerful adversary with lightning reflexes and immense strength in all regards. Goku is barely able to get a hit off on the assassin, so he opts to use his powerful Kamehameha Wave and, at best, burns away the hitman's outfit.

In that instant, Tao uses his Dodon Ray, hitting Goku dead on and bringing him down. Tao takes the backpack containing the Dragon Balls and heads out to get a new set of clothes, leaving Upa to mourn and Goku passed out on the ground.

Unfortunately, Tao doesn't realize that Goku has his most recently-acquired Dragon Ball-- his grandfather's, and it has blocked the Dodon Ray. Realizing he needs more power, he decides to climb the Korin Tower, as per Bora's myth, so that he can beat Tao. If he can reclaim all the Dragon Balls, he can bring Upa's father back with his wish.
4. Goku is the first person to reach the top of Korin Tower.

Answer: False

Considering his need to be more powerful to reclaim his Dragon Balls and to protect Upa, Goku considers the legend of Korin Tower. According to myth, if you climb the tower and make it to the top, you can drink from a cup guarded by a noble guardian; sipping the water of Korin will empower the person who imbibes and, allegedly, no one has ever made it (though that's not confirmed). Goku eventually does make it and encounters visions of his past, present, and future upon his arrival.

He also gets to meet Korin who, funnily enough, laughs Goku off and refuses to hand over the water.

He also tells the truth; the last person to try to claim the water was Master Roshi...three hundred years ago...and it took him three years to do so.
5. How long does it take Goku to claim the sacred water from Korin?

Answer: Three days

Goku, knowing that he needs the water to get the Dragon Balls back, insists upon stealing it from Korin's grasp even though the old master is too savvy to his moves. After picking up on Korin's strategies over a short time and, at one point, running down the tower to retrieve his Dragon Ball and running back up again, it only takes him three days to get it and drink it, stunning Korin. Korin then reveals that the water is straight from the tap; there's nothing special about it. The training and the endurance feats he accomplished, however, have strengthened him immensely.

Elsewhere, Mercenary Tao commissions a newly-tailored outfit and realizes that perhaps he didn't kill Goku. Unfortunately, that can wait; he'll beat the boy next time when he goes to retrieve the Dragon Ball he forgot.
6. In an attempt to one-up Goku, Mercenary Tao does which of the following?

Answer: Climbs Korin Tower

When Goku descends Korin Tower, he arrives just in time to protect Upa from the returned Mercenary Tao. To Tao's shock, the boy is able to hold back his Dodon Ray and, when he starts to cheat with a sabre, he's beaten once again (Goku's Power Pole actually cuts it in half). Needing to make a move, Tao ends up distracting the boys before ascending the tower himself. Goku and Upa have nothing to do but wait.

Bulma, meanwhile, crafts a scout to accompany and protect Goku on his hunt for the Dragon Balls. She also decides to improve upon the Dragon Radar to ease the process a bit. Unfortunately, the Red Ribbon Army, using Goku's original Dragon Radar, has blocked the signal for everyone.
7. What ultimately destroys Mercenary Tao?

Answer: A grenade

Mercenary Tao ends up making it to the top of Korin's Tower only to insult the old master. Korin, being sneaky, simply gives Tao the water and admits that it came from a tap, but lets the assassin believe he's all-important. In doing so, Korin gives him a dark cloud to fly back to the ground on, diminishing any opportunity of building endurance through further travel. As a result, Tao drops a good portion of the descent, losing any strength he would've gained and giving Goku a clear upper hand. On the ground, the battle recommences and Goku intentionally takes all of Tao's hits to better understand his methods. This alone forces Tao to take desperate and extreme measures, and he ends up throwing a grenade at his opponent. Fortunately, Goku is able to kick the grenade back, killing Tao once and for all in the blast.

Bulma's Dragon Radar gets fixed soon enough while Goku, knowing he needs the Dragon Balls to revive Bora, decides to go for the Red Ribbon Army directly to pick up the others.
8. One of the Dragon Balls ends up being found by the merciless Colonel Violet, but where is it located?

Answer: At the bottom of a lake

Goku heads directly to Commander Red's headquarters on his Flying Nimbus where the leader of the Red Ribbon Army learns that another of his lackeys, Colonel Violet, has dredged another Dragon Ball up from the depths of a lake. Despite killer crocodiles and murderous tribes on shore, she ends up escaping in her plane and making it back to the Red Ribbon Army HQ to hand over the powerful item.

Bulma, meanwhile, sends her scout drone off to locate Goku but it ends up getting shot down over the Red Ribbon Army base. Discovering his intent, Bulma and the others inform Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar, who have an aircraft, and go off to help the boy.
9. Goku is able to infiltrate the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters on his own.

Answer: True

Goku arrives at the Red Ribbon Army Stronghold only to come face to face with enemy firepower. He's able to fight through a number of helicopters, but the army picks up quite quickly on the fact that Mercenary Tao has been defeated. Soon, Goku's outflying missiles in the woods surrounding the base and, to escape, he has no choice but to fly directly into the structure. With dextrous moves and a Kamehameha Wave, it doesn't take much time to infiltrate.

Yamcha's aircraft makes it to the mountains next to the base just as a chaser missile launches for them. Bulma's quick thinking ends up saving everybody, but they still aren't at the base.
10. Who defeats Commander Red?

Answer: Black

Following his Dragon Radar to the balls in Commander Red's possession, Goku fights his way through torrents of enemy forces before advancing on Commander Red's room. Red, watching on his cameras, finds that his only remaining high-ranking underling, Colonel Violet, is actually raiding the base's safe, turning on her boss. She has no trouble breaking in. As she leaves, Commander Red's forces flee, leaving Red in his room with his right-hand man, Black, who's forced to battle Goku alone. Goku urges Black to stop fighting as he's only searching for the Dragon Balls. The two of them, however, become caught in Red's deadly trap; the ceiling collapses on them, destroying the room.

The others, continuing to make their way toward the base, end up coming face to face with Colonel Violet trying to make her escape with the riches of the base.

Fortunately, both Goku and Black survive the attack. Black, now knowing of Red's betrayal, realizes that Red only wanted to collect the Dragon Balls to wish he were taller. Black kills his old boss himself, climbing back into the room and shooting him in the head. When Black reclaims the Dragon Balls, Goku emerges from the ruins, having survived as well, and asks for the Dragon Balls. Black, however, seeking his own power, tries to lie his way out of the situation with the Dragon Balls in his possession. Black, deciding that he needs more firepower, uses a Dyno-Capsule to hop into a mech. Goku ends up one explosive shot away from his horrible fate...!
