Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Sean trying to reach for when he and Jack fell into the water?

Answer: A baseball hat

The story begins as Jack and his brother, Sean, are in a rowboat in the middle of open water. The boat starts to tip as Sean reaches for his baseball cap, just off to the side of the boat and Jack warns him that he's reaching too far. Sure enough, the boat tips over and both brothers are thrown overboard.

While Jack rushes to grab the boat, Sean struggles to keep afloat, clearly unable to swim. Although Jack reaches out to grab his brother, his one grab for his hand slips and Sean is left to sink to the seafloor. Sean wakes up from his nightmare, clearly shaken, but since it's morning he makes his way down to the bathroom to freshen up.
2. Where does Jack work?

Answer: A law office

Going to the bathroom, Jack runs the tap and cleans himself up in the mirror. When the basin fills however, he finds Sean's hat floating inside. He steps back, breathes, and closes his eyes, but when he opens them again, he finds that the hat is gone. He steps back up to the sink and begins to wash his face, but as he does, a stark white hand reaches up and grabs him.
Jack wakes up again, this time in the rowboat in the sea. As he looks beside the boat, Sean's hat is floating in the water. Hesitantly, Jack decides to grab for it, but as he does, Sean's drowned body leaps onto his back.
Jack wakes up once more in bed. The phone rings and he rises to get it. It turns out to be Yuri, who asks him if Eiji, her husband, knew anything or sounded odd at work. Jack says no, and Yuri says that she needs to see him. Jack says he'll call her before hanging up and getting ready to go to work.
3. What is Eiji being sued for?

Answer: Contract default

Jack arrives at M & B, Attorneys at Law and immediately needs to speak to Mr. Harrison who tells him that Eiji is being sued for contract default from several organizations. Harrison tells Jack that he is responsible for speaking with Eiji, since he's the only one who can get through to the man, one of their best clients, to hash out a proper solution, otherwise, they may be on the wrong side of the court this time. Jack, although hesitant initially, agrees to do this, and he spends the rest of his day trying to reach Eiji. Jack moves to a set of pictures on the window ledge and looks at one of himself, Eiji, and Yuri, and he slowly pushes the picture so that it's just himself and Yuri together.

He is interrupted by a call.
4. At which area does Eiji tell Jack to meet him?

Answer: A marina

The call turns out to be from Eiji, who Jack tells he needs to speak to. Eiji says that he already knows the situation though, and when Jack tells him to come up to his office to figure it out, Eiji says that he can't as he's taking his boat out for a ride. Jack tells Eiji that it's hardly time for a pleasure cruise, but Eiji insists that they meet at Yumehama Marina. Jack has a bit of trouble getting there though, as his driver hates foreigners and has trouble understanding him (speaking just the name of the destination) but they do arrive.

When Jack calls Eiji, he is told to head to the Terra Café to meet him. Jack does arrive there, but he finds Yuri sitting at a table instead. Before Eiji arrives, she asks Jack what's wrong and he says that although he thought he was just getting together with her because he was lonely, now it's become something more serious. Both don't want Eiji to find out about them.
5. What is the name of Eiji's boat?

Answer: Yuri

Eiji shows up shortly thereafter and has Jack sit down. Eiji tells him there's plenty of time to talk about things when they're on the boat and Jack tells him that he doesn't do water as he and the sea don't mix. Eiji tells him that he's being childish and that he needs to go.

They make their way down to the dock where the 'Yuri' is waiting (named after his wife, of course) and he tells Jack that although some boats have many owners, this one is true to him, just like his wife; a treasure. Jack agrees that it is beautiful and Eiji tells him to board the boat. Extremely nervous, Jack proceeds but stops when he hears his name called. Looking over the edge of the dock, he sees Sean in the water, reaching for him and calling his name. Eiji calls Jack as well and he slowly climbs the boat. Jack goes inside and puts away Yuri's groceries before they cast off.
6. According to Yuri, why did she marry Eiji?

Answer: She thought he gave her what she wanted

Jack struggles to fight off his fear of the ocean, even seeing Sean's reflection in a cup of tea. Yuri comes inside and offers him seasickness pills, but he tells her the truth, that his brother died in the ocean and he was with him at the time. He asks Yuri why she married Eiji and she says that he had what she thought she wanted in a marriage.

She says that what she thought she wanted were 'things'; a large bank account, a nice house, etc. She knows that things have changed though since she wants Jack now. Eiji and Jack end up talking about his problems with the other organizations and Jack says that as long as Eiji trusts him, they can work it out with the other companies. Eiji says that he will, but he tells Jack never to betray him.
7. For how long have Eiji and Yuri been married?

Answer: Four years

The three sit down for dinner and Eiji asks Jack how his Japanese has been coming, having lived in Japan for two years now, and Jack says that his Japanese is terrible regardless. Eiji tells Jack that being in a relationship with a Japanese woman is the best way to learn, but Jack insists that he hasn't had a relationship with anyone from Japan yet. Eiji, oddly, begins talking about adultery, and Jack goes along with it, somehow knowing his motives. Yuri tries to change the subject, but Eiji won't have at it. Eiji continues, saying that after four years, Yuri still fascinates him and that many men, still knowing that she's married, will try to take her.

He forces Jack to admit that Yuri is beautiful before ceasing the conversation. After dinner, Yuri and Jack realize that Eiji must know, and Yuri remembers that he was still married when they met.

He said before they wed that he was emotionally unstable, but they went ahead anyways because his ex disappeared. Yuri looks out the window and wonders out loud why they haven't seen land yet, as it should be visible if they were heading back. Turning on a navigator, they find that they are heading away from land.

When Yuri heads outside the boat, Eiji tells her that they'll go back after a little more fun- the real fun is about to come.
8. What does Eiji find on the propellers when the boat stops?

Answer: Hair

As Eiji continues to drive to sea, the boat stops and the engines cease to work. Eiji quickly goes inside and into the bowels of the ship to check the engine, but it's completely fine. He deduces that the propeller must've gotten caught on seaweed, so he goes outside and tells Jack to dive in and look at it. Yuri tells Eiji that Jack is their guest, and Jack protests to say that he doesn't like the water. Eiji comments that he found an ally in his wife, and he asks how he seduced her into it before going inside to suit up.

When Eiji dives in, he goes straight to the propeller to find that it isn't seaweed that's caught on the boat, but long, black, human hair. While Eiji does this, Yuri and Jack watch from the back of the boat, and neither of them notices as the control panel lights up.

A dial turns itself to full and the throttle begins to push itself on. While Eiji hacks at the hair with his knife, it wraps around his arm and pulls him in. As the throttle turns on and the propellers begin to turn, Jack feels the rope pull and soon he is struggling to hold onto Eiji.

Although he asks Yuri for help pulling, she says not to, and the rope is soon cut by the propeller blade. Jack rushes inside and hunts for an emergency flashlight, but Yuri persists, saying that it would be easier if they just let him be, dead in the water. This is cut short though, as Yuri begins to pull himself up into the boat again, unharmed. Changing into a new set of clothes, Eiji returns to the control panel of the boat and turns on the engine. When Yuri notes that the propellers aren't working, Eiji pushes the throttle even further, and despite Yuri's protest, he continues to ruin the engine. Jack notices smoke coming from the bottom of the ship as Eiji walks in, and when he walks past he notices blood dripping on the floor. When Yuri comes in, they look towards the blood but find none there. They go to Eiji in the bedroom and ask if they should call for help but Eiji says that there's nothing to worry about.
9. Where did Eiji hide Yuri after Jack blacked out?

Answer: In the bathroom

Soon though, something begins to hit the boat. Jack thinks he sees his brother walking outside and he and Yuri go to look. When Jack looks over the edge of the boat, he sees Sean's cap on the water, and this time, Yuri sees it too. They go inside to use the radio and Yuri is confused; no one is responding but they haven't left the radar range. As they change frequencies, Jack and Yuri hear Sean calling Jack's name, and he yells at her to turn it off. As Jack tells his story about Sean, Eiji walks up from the bedroom dragging an anchor along the floor. He turns to Yuri and tells her that it was her fault that he was murdered, but as he says so, his voice changes into that of a woman's. Jack tries to fight him off but he is thrown aside, and Eiji takes a swing at his wife.
Jack blacks out, but when he awakens he hears the sound of things breaking outside. Taking a wrench, Jack goes to the control panel to find Eiji there with the anchor destroying it. Jack returns to the inside and searches for Eiji but comes up with nothing. As he begins to climb up from the engine room he watches Eiji toss the life preservers over the side of the boat. He goes out to confront Eiji, but he pushes him back inside, swinging the anchor at him. As Jack crosses over the couch, Eiji swipes him across the leg, cutting him above the knee, and as Eiji struggles to pull the anchor out of a nearby chair, Jack gets a knife. As Eiji lunges at him, Jack takes one stab, impaling Eiji in the stomach. Eiji slowly backs up and pulls out a clean knife, showing that no blood had stained the blade. His arm, however, falls off, and his head mutilates to the way he looked after going through the propellers. He backs up and falls over the guardrail, back into the sea.
Yuri wakes up in the bathroom next to the kitchen to hear water running, though nothing is working. The door is jammed shut and she knocks on it, yelling for Jack. As Jack rushes to get her, he trips, having been pulled down by Eiji's severed arm. Yuri, meanwhile, begins to panic as the sink and toilet begin to overflow, trapping her in a watery capsule. Jack continues to fight the arm as it attempts to push him onto the anchor, and before it can, he tosses it overboard. He quickly rushes to Yuri's door and frantically tries to open it, but it floods to the top.
10. What was the first name of Eiji's first wife?

Answer: Naomi

As she begins to drown, Yuri has a vision of the past. Eiji and his first wife, Naomi are in the bedroom and Eiji says that he never loved her; only her money. Naomi vows that she'll take every last cent off him and leave him broke, just like he started, but he hits her over the head with a bottle before throwing her into the bathroom and finishing her off. She vows that she shall never forgive him and his woman before he kills her. He wraps up her body and tosses it into the sea, never to be seen again.
Jack gets a hatchet and beats down the door, spilling water all over the boat, and soon he tries to revive Yuri, who has gone unconscious. He revives her and the two of them huddle close together, quickly heading to the control panel. They find that both this and their life rafts have been destroyed by Eiji, and as they look over the side of the boat, an ominous green light emerges from the sea. They run inside, but Yuri trips, and when Jack tries to pick her up it turns out to be Naomi, dripping water and blood. Jack backs up with the hatchet in hand and makes his way to the bedroom, but Sean appears and grabs his arm, holding him back. Jack attempts to take a swing, but Naomi turns back into Yuri, who stops him and tells him to get a hold on himself.
Naomi begins to cackle and the lights go out. As Jack and Yuri back into the bedroom, Naomi's omniscient, green glow begins to follow them around. Jack tries to open a hatch in the ceiling, but Naomi grabs him from there. As Naomi begins to push the bedroom door out of its frame, snapping the wood in many places, Jack notices a hatch in the floor, leading to the engine room. They quickly duck in and crawl under the main floor, emerging back in the seating area. Yuri pulls the last life preserver off the side of the boat and tells Jack that they need to jump to save themselves. Jack is hesitant, but realizing their peril, they both jump in. Naomi watches them both as they swim away from the boat, but she follows them, seemingly walking on the water's surface. They reach a fair distance and Naomi disappears. Although they begin to celebrate, Naomi reappears and dips below the surface, pulling Yuri with her. Jack tries to pull her back up, but his grip continues to slip, just like with his brother, Sean. As Yuri is about to lose her grasp, Jack sees his brother under the water, but his fear turns to confusion as Sean dives deeper and pulls Naomi off of Yuri, saving her life. Jack re-tightens his grip on Yuri and pulls her up. Yuri says that Sean was protecting him and he spies Sean's hat on the water. As Jack pulls it over, the sun begins to rise.
Jack and Yuri, after the incident, rent a sailboat for the day. Yuri tells Jack that she went to see the doctor and their child is now at three months and counting. Jack says that if it's a boy, they know what to call him. Taking a bouquet of flowers and a picture of himself and Sean, they toss them into the ocean, saying their final goodbyes.
