Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Rock, Paper, Scissors" - Who begins a recurring role in this episode?

Answer: James Cromwell

James Cromwell begins his recurring role as Bishop Stewart, a patient of Dr. Kovac's, in this episode. He also appears in "Thy Will Be Done," "A Walk in the Woods," and made his final appearance in the series' 150th episode, "The Crossing." He has also appeared in the HBO series "Six Feet Under" and in the movie "Space Cowboys."

Lourdes Benedicto made her first appearance as pediatric intern Rena Trujillo in "The Crossing." She appeared in four other episodes in season 7, making her final appearance in "Sailing Away."

Elizabeth Mitchell began a recurring role as psychiatrist Dr. Kim Legaspi in "Mars Attacks." She appeared in many episode throughout the season, and after her character's romance with Dr. Kerry Weaver, she made her final appearance in the season 7 finale, "Rampage."

Sally Field began a recurring role as Maggie Wyczenski, Abby's mother, in "The Visit." She appeared in 5 other episodes this season, making her final appearance in "Where the Heart Is." She also appeared in season 9 of "ER," as well as in a variety of movies, including "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Forrest Gump," and "Norma Rae," which she won an Oscar for her performance.
2. "Surrender" - Who does not guest star in this episode?

Answer: James Cromwell

Tom Bosley and Tom Poston play two elderly patients who can't seem to get along in this episode. They reappear in the same roles later in the season, though out of the hospital this time, in "Fear of Commitment."

Elizabeth Mitchell continues her recurring role as psychiatrist Dr. Kim Legaspi in this episode.

Though Sally Field makes appearances in a handful of episodes this season, this episode is not one of them.
3. "Thy Will Be Done" - Who does Dr. Carter take with him to the charity function hosted by his grandparents in this episode?

Answer: Abby

Dr. Carter's original date couldn't make it because of the flu, and although he asked Chuny and Randi, who happened to be standing around at the time, to go with him, they both declined, and he ended up taking Abby. He doesn't tell her it is formal, and she only realizes when he shows up in a tuxedo, so she is forced to wear an old bridesmaid's dress.

They unfortunately run into Abby's ex-husband, Richard, at the function, who recognizes the dress from his sister's wedding and embarasses Abby.
4. "A Walk in the Woods" - A little boy comes into the ER with a terrible and rare illness. What is this illness?

Answer: measles

A little boy is brought in by his teacher, and after the doctors learn that he has not had any of his immunizations, they realize that he has measles.

Two cases of smallpox break out in the ER later on, in the season 8 finale, "Lockdown." Two college students are diagnosed with meningitis in "Supplies and Demands," also during season 8. Carter's grandmother is diagnosed later in the series (season 8 again!) with Shy Drager syndrome.
5. "The Crossing" - Which of these did NOT happen in this episode, the series' 150th?

Answer: There was a multi-car pile-up on the expressway

The major trauma that had the ER hopping in this episode was a train derailment, caused by a car parked on the tracks - an attempted suicide by the driver.

Carter and Kovac went to the scene of the accident to help and found a firefighter pinned by his legs, but weren't able to get him out safely before he would bleed out. They called for a surgeon to come to the field, and Elizabeth did, but began having contractions just after she started the amputation process. She went back to County, leaving Carter to perform the double amputation by himself.

Meanwhile, Luka went into the derailed cars to help rescue a mother and son, and was reminded of the death of his wife and children by the chaos and destruction he saw at the site. He went to visit the bishop at the hospital later on, and we finally heard the story of what happened to his wife and children. After Luka had finished telling his story, we saw that the bishop had died.
6. "Witch Hunt" - In this episode, we learn the age of Rena, Carter's new "friend." How old is she?

Answer: 19

Rena Trujillo is a new pediatric intern at County whom Carter met in the previous episode, "The Crossing." We find out in the beginning of this episode that she and Carter spent the previous night together, and he later finds out that she is only 19, and is mortified.
7. "Survival of the Fittest" - What holiday was the staff celebrating in this episode?

Answer: April Fool's Day

A handful of April Fool's Jokes are played in the ER in this episode.

Malucci thrashes around with a pillowcase on his head, pretending to be a psychotic patient, but doesn't count on Dr. Kovac giving him a shot of Haldol, a sedative. Later, when he is sleeping, Kovac retaliates by super-gluing Malucci's hand to his face.

Also, someone ties a string of aluminum cans to Dr. Weaver's crutch.
8. "April Showers" - Which of these incidents does NOT prevent Mark from getting to his wedding on time?

Answer: There is an accident involving an overturned prison van

Mark and Elizabeth's wedding day starts off on the wrong foot - it is pouring outside. Mark then realizes that he has left his wallet in his locker at work. He goes to County to get it, only to come outside and find his car being towed. He manages to get his tuxedo out of the car, tries to take the "El" train but is told that a tree fell on the tracks and the train is not running.

He then tries a bus, but the engine is not working on the bus, and another one has yet to arrive. He eventually goes back to County, and is able to catch a ride to the church with Peter, who is on his way there as well, but they get stuck in a major traffic jam. Mark goes to try and find out what the holdup is, and sees that there is a car accident.

He is promised a ride by Doris, a paramedic, if he helps to clear the scene.

After a bloody nose from getting hit by the ambulance door, yet another trip to County, and a ride to the church in an ambulance, Mark finally gets to his wedding.
9. "Sailing Away" - What do Mark and Elizabeth decide to name their daughter, who is born in this episode?

Answer: Ella

After a trip to the hospital that turns out to be a false alarm, Elizabeth returns and gives birth to her daughter, Ella, in this episode.
10. "Fear of Commitment" - Which of these is not a character in this episode?

Answer: A little boy who burned his hands on a fire in a can

The little boy who burns his hands appears in the following episode, "Where the Heart Is."

Dr. Carter treats a young pregnant woman who has an incomplete miscarriage. He later finds out that this is due to the root extracts that her boyfriend has been putting in her tea, because he heard they would induce miscarriages, as he does not want the baby.

Dr. Weaver treats two men dressed in animal costumes. She also treats an elderly woman who complains that she cannot go to the bathroom, and diagnoses her with an ovarian tumor. She recognizes the woman as the host of a television show that Kerry watched as a child, and is touched when the woman gives her one of the puppets from the show.
11. "Where the Heart Is" - This episode is Sally Field's last appearance on "ER" to date.

Answer: False

Although this is the last of Sally Field's 6 appearances this season, she returns for a few episodes in season 9.
12. "Rampage" - Which hospital worker became a patient in this episode?

Answer: Adele Newman

In the previous episode, "Where the Heart Is," Mark had a patient that he suspected was abused by his father, and, with Adele's (a County social worker) help, put the child, Ben, into protective custody. Ben's father, Derek, goes on a rampage in this episode, shooting at a foster care facility and at various other people, including the neighbor who brought Ben to the hospital (and her son) in an attempt to find his son.

He also finds out where Adele lives, and shoots her at her home. When she reveals this, Mark begins to worry about his own family, and has the police go over to and search his house. Luckily, both Elizabeth and Ella are fine in the end.
13. How many appearances did Sally Field make this season?

Answer: 6

Oscar winner Sally Field had a recurring role this season as Abby's mother, Maggie Wyczenski. Her first appearance was in "The Visit," and she also appeared in "Rescue Me" and "The Dance We Do." She re-appeared later in the season, first in "Sailing Away," and then in "Fear of Commitment" and finally in "Where the Heart Is." She went on to make a few guest appearances in season 9 as well.
14. Which of these characters is the only one to appear in every episode of season 7?

Answer: Dr. Carter

Dr. Carter made at least an appearance, if not a featured role, in all 22 episodes of season 7.

Neither Dr. Greene nor Dr. Corday appeared in "Fear of Commitment," and Dr. Corday was missing from "Where the Heart Is" as well. Dr. Kovac was not in the episode "The Greatest of Gifts."
15. The final scene of the season took place inside one of the trauma rooms.

Answer: False

The final scene of the episode featured Dr. Greene alone in the elevator with Derek Fossen, the man who went on the shooting spree in "Rampage." Mark was angry enough at Fossen, who had intentions to hurt Greene and/or his family that, when Fossen went into cardiac arrest, instead of shocking him with the defibrillator, Mark shocked the air instead, letting Fossen die.
