Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What month (in Salem time) did the islanders begin their escape?

Answer: October

The escape took weeks in our (real) time but only days in soap time. The escape began on October 31, Halloween, after a summer of attempts. While the people in Salem were trick-or-treating, dressing up and having a party at Alice's, the islanders battled to outrun a monster volcano on the verge of eruption.
2. What was the actual name of "Captive Island"?

Answer: Melaswen

The tropical Caribbean island was supposedly uninhabited, and belonged to the DiMeras. The island held a replica of Salem. When John and Bo looked at a map and placed a glass paperweight on it, they realized "Melaswen" spelled "New Salem" backwards.
3. What was the number on the wall of the pier the islanders escaped from?

Answer: Pier No. 17

"Pier No. 17" was written in large white letters on the pier wall. It could be seen clearly as Abe and various others entered, and when Tony appeared.
4. While the Salemites prepared to board the rafts, which three were still missing from the group?

Answer: Bo, Billie and Hope

Bo, Hope and Billie were still in the jungle and in grave danger. Surrounded by a ring of flaming lava, Hope and the unconscious Billie were rescued by Bo as he swung in on a vine. Roman and Abe searched the jungles, knowing they would have to leave soon. They feared it might be too late, but the trio returned and said it was never too late for them.
5. What object brought Tony "back to life"?

Answer: Ring

The Phoenix ring belonging to Stefano brought the injured Count back to life once again. As he stitched himself up from the explosion, Tony told Bart that he, unlike his father, was the true Phoenix and would always rise again. His reappearance was stated nicely in his explanation: "I have risen from the ashes twice now. Death is but a mere inconvenience."
6. On the Salem news that Lexie and Celeste were watching, the broadcaster announced that the volcanic eruption would be one of the most powerful seen in how many years?

Answer: One hundred years

The news announcer described the activity as an "active subterranean volcano nearing a huge eruption beneath an uninhabited island in the Caribbean". She went on to say that it did not fit any geological pattern seen before.
7. When looking in her magic crystals, Celeste believed everyone was alive and she willed "Abraham" to send her a sign of where he was. What did she see appear?

Answer: Fire

She had a set of ten crystals, arranged with nine in a circle and one in the middle (resembling the Ring of Fire). When using her powers, flames appeared on the crystal faces. Later, when hearing about the volcano on the news, Celeste had flashes of the fire and cried out, "That's where they are!"
8. When Roman ordered everyone onto the rafts, three islanders in particular objected. Who was not one of them?

Answer: Billie

Before Bo and Hope returned from the jungle, Roman feared it was too late and ordered the others to go without them. Doug and Caroline refused, deciding to stay instead of leaving without their children. Nicole did not want to go back to Salem, knowing that Victor would turn her in when they returned.
9. As the captives moved off the pier, they came face to face with Tony and Bart. Who was the first to speak to them?

Answer: Marlena

Knowing the "mother of all volcanoes" was on the brink of eruption, the islanders hussled to move off the pier. They were in complete shock to come face to face with Tony, who had supposedly "died" in the explosion at the compound. Marlena gasped and cried out, "You're alive?!" Tony replied smugly, "Surely you wouldn't think of leaving my party so soon?"
10. Tony survived the explosion in the compound because it was never meant to kill him.

Answer: False

The explosion was meant to take Tony out in a blaze of glory and to kill everyone in the compound. It did not succeed, however, because there was a malfunction. Apparently, the bomb had been tampered with (by Patrick). He ended up being on the Salem side after all, and had delayed the eruption as well. He said his only regret was that the bomb didn't kill Tony.
