John recognizes the woman that was jogging on the beach as a girl who went to his school for a few weeks. The man at the newsstand turns out to be the same one spying on John earlier and John remembers him as someone whose house he rode by on his bike when he was in the fifth grade.

Then he spots a man who he says is Greg Cokonis, and that John had dated his sister. It turns out everything in this world is all from John's memories and has been reconstructed by aliens called the Ancients, one who is made to look like Jack Crichton.

They are trying to find a home and test John to see what a human reaction would be to aliens.
