Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which two characters lost their engagement and/or wedding rings?

Answer: Ross and Ray

In "Friends", Ross lost his engagement ring when he entrusted it to Joey, his best man. Joey's duck ate the ring and once the group figured this out, they took the duck to a vet and managed to rescue the ring. The ring was intended for Emily.
In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Ray lost his ring because Robert played a flicking game with it where he flicked the ring off the table and down a ventilation pipe. While living without the ring, a woman actually hit on Ray which made Debra angry and jealous. About a week later, the ring was saved and sent back to Ray, no harm done.
2. What holiday was ruined for both series?

Answer: Thanksgiving

In "Friends", everyone's Thanksgiving was ruined one year because they didn't get to spend it as they wanted. In addition, all of Monica's efforts to make a complete dinner with all the trimmings were wasted because it all got burnt when they locked themselves out of the apartment to go look at a giant runaway balloon. In "Everybody Loves Raymond", more than one Thanksgiving was ruined. One year, Marie wanted to make a healthy dinner which included a turkey completely made of soy.

This turned out to be a distaster, and when Ray secretly ordered a real dinner which was mistakenly taken to Marie's house, the mood was completely ruined.

Another year, the family spent Thanksgiving with the MacDougalls which started out okay, but quickly went downhill when Pat killed a wounded bird.

The two families completely split (with the exception of Debra) and the episode turned out to be a huge argument. They continued the bitterness for each other when they re-enacted the story of the pilgrims and Native Americans with ill manner.
3. Which two characters had dogs as pets?

Answer: Rachel and Robert

In "Friends", Rachel was sad in one episode when she heard word that her childhood dog "Lepooh" had died. Phoebe tried to consult her by saying "I know it's lepooh now but it won't be much longer", mistaking the entire situation for what it really is.
In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Robert's dog was called Shamsky. Shamsky lived with Robert and in one episode Robert told us that he had to take Shamsky for a walk earlier than usual because he's shy of the other dogs.
Ray had a pet rabbit as a child, Ross had that infamous monkey, and Joey had a chick and a duck.
4. Which two characters have had money problems in the past?

Answer: Rachel and Robert

In "Friends", the three who had money problems were Rachel, Joey, and Phoebe. In one episode, they complained about the way the check was being split in a restaurant because they ordered small portions that they could afford, but Ross split the check six ways so Chandler, Monica, and Ross' large orders were added to everyone's tab. In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Robert had money problems when Ray caught him eating bologna and orange juice together, and those were the only things in his fridge. Ray gave him some money to help him out but Robert decided to blow it on a vacation, which made Ray really angry.
5. Which two characters were skilled dancers?

Answer: Joey and Debra

In "Friends", Joey wasn't a naturally skilled dancer, but rather became good at it while he practiced dancing with Treeger as a favor, to keep Treeger from kicking anybody out of their apartments.
In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Debra was an excellent swing dancer and this was shown in one episode when she and Robert went together. Ray got really jealous, even though the idea was originally his. And he even followed them one time to make sure they're behaving... only to get caught and made a fool of. Ray was a very poor dancer.
6. The parents of two characters got divorced at one point or another. Who are these characters?

Answer: Chandler and Debra

In "Friends", Chandler's parents Nora Bing and Charles Bing (played by actresses Morgan Fairchild and Kathleen Turner, respectively) divorced because his dad came out of the closet and declared his homosexuality. This was revealed to Chandler on Thanksgiving day (during dinner) one year when Chandler was very young. In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Debra's parents Lois and Warren (played by Katherine Helmond and Robert Culp, respectively) divorced because they just had irreconcilable differences. Warren instead began dating another woman, who was much much older than he and his ex-wife, which shocked the other characters because this new woman was practically old enough to be his mother.
7. Which two characters never gave birth?

Answer: Monica and Amy

In "Friends", Monica and Chandler really wanted to have a baby, but they were incapable of naturally conceiving one. Instead they had twins by a surrogate mother.
In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Robert and Amy got married but the series ended before they ever had a baby. Marie definitely expressed her desire for a grandchild, so at some point they were bound to have one.
Rachel had Emma with Ross. Debra had Geoffrey, Michael, and Ally with Ray. Phoebe had three of her brother's babies (as a surrogate mother). Nora was Chandler's mother, who had him. And finally Lois was Debra's mother who had her.
8. To what continent did both series go for a visit?

Answer: Europe

In "Friends", the group went to England for the wedding of Ross and Emily. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out for them. This is where Chandler and Monica first got together, in secret.
In "Everybody Loves Raymond", the group went to Italy for a visit. Ray was very pessimistic for the majority of the stay, but he came around eventually. Also, this is where Robert met Stefania for the first time, who later on moved to America.
9. What two characters had second thoughts about their wedding?

Answer: Chandler and Ray

In "Friends", Chandler ran away on his wedding day which freaked the entire group out, except Monica, from whom it had to be kept a secret. Once they found him, they managed to talk some sense into him and everything worked out. In "Everybody Loves Raymond", Ray had second thoughts about the wedding, and his dad even tried to help him through it by giving him a bottle of hard liquor. Debra also had her parents send him a parcel which contained socks, should he get cold feet (get it, clever huh?). Ray went through his wedding with no problems (and no liquor) so everything worked out there, too.
10. Where were the series filmed (for the vast majority of their running)?

Answer: California

Although "Friends" was set in Manhattan's Greenwich Village (in New York), it was filmed in California. No scenes featuring cast members were actually filmed in New York. Even the opening fountain theme was filmed in the Warner Brother's studio lot in California.
"Everybody Loves Raymond" was set on Long Island, in New York, but it too was filmed in Califoria. More specifically, it was filmed in the Warner Brother's studio just like the "Friends" opening theme.
