Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Daenerys is traded away as a bride to a "savage" in season one. Who selfishly treats her like a means to an end?

Answer: Viserys

Prince Viserys (Harry Lloyd) is the older and only surviving brother of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), but threatens her regularly with his "dragon" displeasure. He arranges a trade with the "savage" Dothraki warlord, giving her away for a promise the Dothraki will fight for him. Despite his selfish, delusional ways, Daenerys saves him after he attacks her and a Dothraki wants to kill him for it.

But when Viserys pulls a weapon and threatens her unborn child, husband Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) pours molten gold over her brother's head. Daenerys doesn't look away or flinch. She remarks instead he was no true dragon.
2. Daenerys finds great happiness with her "sun and stars" Khal Drogo, but who destroys both the husband and the unborn son?

Answer: Mirri Maz Duur the witch

Daenerys compassion for slaves and women in particular causes her to intervene and save a witch, a healer maegi, whom the Dothraki were molesting.

Mirri Maz Duur (Mia Soteriou) repays that kindness by offering to heal a small wound in Drogo, but instead it festers. Duur uses blood magic to give Drogo life, but it's catatonic life, and the magic kills his unborn child. Mirri Maz Duur explains the Dothraki already raped her, and burned her village, so she felt no gratitude toward Daenerys. Most of all, she did not want a Dothraki baby who grows up to be the "Stallion Who Mounts the World". Daenerys ties her to Drogo's funeral pyre and burns her alive, unaffected by the screams.
3. Khaleesi Daenerys is directed to go live among the widows of Khal warlords, but instead she does what to the Dothraki warlords who will not serve a woman?

Answer: Sets fire to them

Khaleesi Daenerys assumed her power as Drogo's queen of the Dothraki, and after emerging unharmed from Drogo's funeral fire, she's Mother of Dragons as well, confident of her true destiny. She need bow to no one.

When Khal Moro (Joe Naufahu) and other Dothraki warlords capture her and threaten rape or enslavement, and then insist she must live at the Vaes Dothrak where all widows of Khal must stay, Daenerys calls them "small men" not fit to lead, though SHE is. She sets their tent on fire. She watches each man burn, then emerges from the fire unscathed.
4. At the slave city of Astapor Daenerys uses clever strategy to outwit the vulgar slavedriver Kraznys mo Nakloz, bargaining over which creature?

Answer: Her dragon

The dragons are old enough now to be a priceless wonder, so it's no surprise Kraznys mo Nakloz (Dan Hildebrand), the Astapor slavedriver, wants one for himself. He barters with Daenerys, who wants the army of the famous Unsullied, slave soldier eunuchs. The slave Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) translates, but dares not translate his true, insulting comments.

Secretly Daenerys understands every word. She pretends to agree to the terms, and hands over her young dragon. He gives her command of the Unsullied. But as he's struggling to control the dragon, she commands it to breathe fire upon the insolent Nakloz, roasting him to death. She then frees the Unsullied.
5. Daenerys first meets Ser Jorah Mormont at her wedding to Khal Drogo, but she will find out one day her friend is a spy for King Robert Baratheon.

Answer: True

Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) is at the wedding, and acts as protector and guide to Daenerys thereafter. He witnesses her emerge from fire unharmed, and falls very much in love. But, he's a spy. He tells King Baratheon (Mark Addy), through Varys "the Spider" (Conleth Hill), what she's up to. Ser Jorah wants a royal pardon for past mistakes.

When Jorah finds out she's pregnant by Drogo, this news infuriates King Robert, who orders she and her baby dead. Jorah saves her from attacks, but she learns he was spying. She banishes him from her sight, an unusual mercy. He kidnaps Tyrion thinking that will earn him forgiveness, but contracts the deadly disease Greyscale in the process.
6. The Warlock of Qarth steals the dragons belonging to Daenerys, and chains them up in what tower of illusions?

Answer: House of the Undying

Ser Jorah Mormont and Daenerys circle the House of the Undying, a tower without openings, into which Daenerys disappears. She sees visions of the Red Keep, the great Wall, and her dead husband and son. She finds her dragons chained up by the warlock Pyat Pree. He chains Daenerys. But when Daenerys gives the command, "Dracarys", the dragons toast Pyat.

Also in Qarth the merchant Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Nonso Anozie) met Daenerys at the city gates and promised ships, proposing marriage. Xaro and Pyat Press then stage a coup, kill the city rulers and steal the dragons. Also dead are Daenerys's maid and men, because the bedslave Doreah (Roxanne McKee) betrayed Daenerys. In response, Daenerys locks both Xaro and Doreah in a vault, to slowly starve and die together.
7. Daenerys frees a slave in Astapor who becomes a close friend and advisor. Who loves an Unsullied, but Daenerys will watch her beheaded?

Answer: Missandei

Missandei was freed of her slavery when Daenerys took Astapor and became "Breaker of Chains". After that, Missandei stood firm by Daenerys through their every tribulation, including a chilly and ungrateful reception from people in the North. After surviving the Battle of Winterfell the Unsullied Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) and Missandei are happy together on a ship, when it is attacked. Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) captures Missandei and takes her to Queen Cersei (Lena Headey), who offers Daenerys the life of Missandei in exchange for surrender. Daenerys of course will not surrender.

She has to watch as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane (Hafpor Julius Bjornsson) beheads her friend.
8. Daenerys and Jon Snow enjoyed a sweet courtship and shared goals, never mind fierce fighting together. But which name, learned late in the series, tears them apart?

Answer: Aegon

Having learned that Jon Snow is actually her nephew Aegon Targaryen, Daenerys pleads with him to keep his identity secret; to be true to her as his Queen, but also his love. She sees that the Northerners have no love for her, despite all she's done for them. She needs to know Jon is in her corner. Instead he insists on telling his family who he is, and he pulls out of her embrace and kiss. Because he can't really stomach kissing his aunt?

Daenarys feels his love gone cold. "Let it be fear, then", she says, meaning if none will love her in Westeros, she will take the Iron Throne by striking fear in her subjects.
9. Daenerys brings her dragons and her armies across the sea to Winterfell, in order to help Jon Snow defeat the Night King and his army. Who promised to support this war with significant troops, but was lying and never showed?

Answer: Cersei

"At great cost" to herself, as she put it, Daenerys brought the Dothraki and the Unsullied armies, as well as all three of her dragons, for the Battle of Winterfell against the Night King and his zombie wights. The Hand of the Queen, Tyrion Lannister, promised that his sister Cersei, Queen in King's Landing, would send thousands of supporting soldiers. But, Jaime Lannister arrived to say Cersei "never intended" to send any assistance. Cersei wants the ranks of her enemy Daenerys to be heavily culled by the Night King. And they are.

Including one of Daenerys "children", her dragon Viseron. And her beloved advisor and friend, who betrayed, protected and loved her, Ser Jorah Mormont.
10. Preparing for war against Queen Cersei, Daenerys learns an advisor has betrayed her by spreading the secret of Jon Snow's claim to the throne. Who does she condemn to die by dragon?

Answer: Varys, the Spider

At Dragonstone, in tears and furious, Daenerys tells Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) she is aware she's been betrayed. Grey Worm and the Unsullied escort Varys "the Spider" outside. Varys says to Tyrion, "I hope I am wrong" in doubting the sanity and worth of Queen Daenerys. In cold tones she pronounces him condemned to death, and commands her remaining dragon, Drogon, to sear her treasonous advisor.

She warns Tyrion that since he failed her as well, if he fails her again, it will be the last time. Tyrion nonetheless frees his captive brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), hoping Jaime can smuggle Cersei out of the city, thereby surrendering it to Daenerys without bloodshed.
