Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This clever canine was owned by Constable Benton Fraser on 'Due South' and named for the 13th Prime Minister of Canada.

Answer: Diefenbaker

The TV show in which Diefenbaker appears, 'Due South', ran from 1994 until 1999. It tells of Constable Benton Fraser's partnership with Chicago detective Ray Vecchio in solving crime. Fraser is a lovable, somewhat exaggerated character who always reminds me a little of Dudley Doright.
2. This 'Full House' 'star' appeared on numerous episodes of the popular sitcom.

Answer: Comet

Comet is played by Buddy, a Golden Labrador Retriever, who also stars in 'Air Bud' and made appearances on Letterman's 'Late Show'. 'Full House' ran for ten years from 1988.
3. This slow old Basset Hound (not at all like his name!) was owned by Sheriff Rosco Coltrane. He loved the Duke boys, but barked at Boss Hogg!

Answer: Flash

The dog was nicknamed 'Velvet Ears' by the Sheriff in the TV show 'The Dukes of Hazzard'. Interestingly, the dog, whose real name was Sandy, was rescued from a pet shelter. She was a lazy and placid creature which the cast and crew used to ironically call her the 'attack dog'. You've probably picked up that I said 'she' - Sandy the female dog played a male dog in 'The Dukes of Hazzard'.
4. The Jack Russell terrier who starred in 193 episodes of 'Frasier' - take a Bauer!

Answer: Eddie

Apparently, Moose (the dog's real name) and his screen owner, Martin Crane (played by John Mahoney) didn't have the happy relationship that appeared on TV. Moose had the habit of biting anyone who went near him, but most often it was Mahoney who was nipped. 'Frasier' screened from 1993 - 2004. Moose was replaced by his son for later episodes.

I know, Bauer was a bit corny, but hope it gave you a clue if you needed it!
5. The 'Kommissar' (Inspector) was the king of German Shepherds when he teamed up with his Austrian police officer owner to solve crimes.

Answer: Rex

Inspector Rex has several handlers during the show: Richard Moser (played by Tobias Moretti), Alexander Brandtner (Gedeon Burkhard) and Marc Hoffmann (Alexander Pschill). A spinoff show, Stockinger, stars another of Rex's handlers, Ernst Stockinger, played by Karl Markovics. The program ran from 1994 - 2015.
6. This dog is the Man! He hit the small screen in 2012 and has his own blog - you'd expect that, when can also talk and write.

Answer: Stan

'Dog with a Blog' character Stan was voiced by Stephen Full and played by Mick, a husky-mixed breed dog, whose hair was dyed in splotches for the part. Not the original star, Mick replaced Kuma after five episodes. The program ran from 2012-2015, and in Germany was known as 'Hund mit Blog'.
7. The three-legged dog who was owned by April and Andy on 'Parks and Recreation' was a real winner.

Answer: Champion

Named 'Champion' in the show, the poor dog was regularly dressed up in costumes. Champion, who plays a male in 'Parks and Recreation', was really a rescue pit-bull named Lucy. The program aired for seven seasons from 2009.
8. His real name was Pal the Wonder Dog, but by what name was he known on 'The Little Rascals'?

Answer: Petey

Petey, as he was known on 'Little Rascals' (originally called 'Our Gang'), was the son of an American pit bull terrier. His real name was 'Pal, the Wonder Dog' and was distinctive for the almost perfectly outlined left eye. When Pal, the Wonder Dog died in 1930 after being poisoned, Lucenay's Pete (sired by Pal, the Wonder Dog) was used as Petey.
9. When Brigitte the French bulldog was asked to be in the second season of 'Modern Family', she knew she was a star.

Answer: Stella

Stella went on to be a regular star of the show. Brigitte won the inaugural 'Golden Collar' award in 2012. It is reported, however, that Sofia Vergara, the dog's owner in the show was not overly fond of the dog, because the scenes with Stella took so much longer.
10. What was the name of the collie-mix that was so loved on 'Mad About You'?

Answer: Murray

Murray's real name was 'Maui' and was in the first season of 'Mad About You' in 1992-93. He was rescued from a pound in Castaic, California. He was good friends with Moose, the dog who played Eddie on Frasier, but by all accounts, he was very much friendlier, and had a bag of tricks that he would like to play.
