Answer: House wants to be happy.

Nolan probes House for answers. Initially reluctant, House is glib and only offers superficial suggestions for a potential dialogue. Finally, House admits that he is unhappy and offers happiness as his goal. House, uncharacteristically, accepts Nolan's offer of help.

Alvie has come to worship House in many respects. Alvie is completely disillusioned when House confesses that he is conforming to the program. Alvie tells House, "I hate you."
