Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first scene, House is sitting before a relatively unsympathetic parole board, consisting of five members. House has already served a year of his sentence. The board stipulates that House may be released in how much time, contingent upon exemplary behavior?

Answer: five days

Despite House's somewhat insolent and disrespectful attitude during the parole board hearing, the board declares that due to a mandated reduction of prison overcrowding, House may be released in five days. The warden declares, "Let me be clear. You mouth off to one guard; we catch you with a single cafeteria tray in your cell; you break any rules that I don't even remember and you can park yourself here for another four months. So, forget about being sorry. Can you stay out of trouble for five days?" House compliantly says, "Yes."
2. It's medication time for the prisoners. House accompanies his somewhat menacing-looking cellmate in the line for medication. Another prisoner complains, "Why are you helping him?" What is House's motivation for ensuring that his homicidal cellmate gets the right medication?

Answer: House is motivated by self-preservation.

In response to the query from the other prisoner in line, House responds, "Yeah. Why would I want to make sure that my homicidal cellmate is taking the right anti-psychotics?"
3. House is making his way along the corridor of prison cells. He pauses by one of the cells. The occupant of the cell calls out, "Knight to King's Bishop Three." Without looking into the cell, House replies, "Queen to King's Bishop Seven." What are they doing?

Answer: They are playing chess.

House pauses before a cell. The prisoner inside is concentrating on a chessboard. The prisoner calls out his move, "N-KB3," or Nf3 in algebraic notation. House responds with, "Q-KB7," or Qf7 is algebraic. House plays his move without sight of the board. So, it appears that he is trying to maintain his mental acuity by playing a game of blindfold chess.

A moment later, House's chess opponent protects House from a potential violation of his parole conditions. As they part, the opponent says, "That was checkmate, wasn't it?" House says, "Yup."
4. House's rather intimidating and potentially dangerous cellmate has adopted a new chirping pet. What kind of pet is it?

Answer: a cricket

House is awakened in the middle of the night by incessant and loud chirping sounds. House investigates and discovers a cricket beneath a blanket. As House prepares to thump the cricket away, his gargantuan cellmate says, "Don't," in an ominous tone. House insists that they have had this conversation about pets before and that it will only end badly.
5. House has suddenly taken an interest in the diagnosis of one of the prisoners. It appears that he disagrees with the diagnosis of the attractive female prison physician. With what does House initially believe that the prisoner is afflicted?

Answer: lupus

After hearing what the prison physician has prescribed for the patient, House immediately disagrees. House looks for a rash that would indicate the patient may be suffering from lupus. House takes his evaluation to the prison physician. The physician tells House that she has done some research and discovered that House was "a pretty big deal." In turn, House displays his characteristic Sherlock Holmes observational skills and describes the physician with extraordinary accuracy.

She is duly impressed.
6. House made an arrangement with a certain prisoner in order to survive in prison. However, this prisoner learns that House is scheduled to be released in a short amount of time. What does this prisoner demand from House?

Answer: Twenty tablets of vicodin

A prisoner has been extorting House for vicodin tablets. When the prisoner learns that House may be leaving soon, the prisoner demands that House accumulate twenty tablets of vicodin for the prisoner. Hence, the title of the episode.
7. House appears ready to abandon the prison patient to whom he had taken a diagnostic interest. However, the prisoner suddenly exhibits symptoms of anaphylaxis. How does House proceed?

Answer: House administers an emergency tracheotomy

Previously, House had berated the prison patient for continuing to hold hopes of having a life outside of prison. Later, the patient enters House's cell. House is reluctant to talk to the patient but suddenly notices that the patient is going into anaphylactic shock. House immediately administers a tracheotomy with a contraband blade.
8. House has gone to great lengths to accede to the demands of the extorting prisoner. As they meet to consummate the transaction, House flouts the prisoner by flinging the booty into the air. Enraged, the prisoner demands that House be executed by one of the cronies. Who intercedes to save House?

Answer: the cellmate of House

Enraged at House's defiance, the prisoner orders one of his cohorts to kill House. The cohort is reluctant but finds a lethal weapon and heads toward House. Suddenly, House's laconic cellmate enters the foray like a superhero. He protects House and practically demolishes the attacking crew. It is a magnificent moment.
9. House has an ulterior motive for inciting an altercation with his prison nemesis. What is it?

Answer: House wants to get back into the clinic

House purposely provokes his nemesis by flouting his authority. House calculated that the provocation would induce a fight, which would land him back in the infirmary.
10. House maintains that his prison patient has mastocytosis. House further insists that there is a definitive diagnostic procedure that will confirm his diagnosis. The chief prison physician will have none of it, though. Nevertheless, the subordinate physician believes in House and proceeds with the test. What happens to House?

Answer: House is confined to solitary confinement

Before the diagnosis can be confirmed from House's test, he is sequestered into solitary confinement. The test did not have an immediate result. While languishing in solitary confinement, House receives his meal tray, which is slipped under the door. House picks up his tray and reads the note therein attached. It reads, "You were Right!"
