Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of season 5 of "Justified", Dewey Crowe was awarded a judicial settlement. How much money did he get?

Answer: $300,000

In "A Murder of Crowes", the judge awarded Dewey $300,000, as compensation for the abuse he suffered. When the judge offered him "three hundred," Dewey indignantly let it be known he was unsatisfied with $300. The judge called him a "nitwit" and explained he meant $300,000. Dewey was happy with that amount.
2. Who killed Sammy Tonin?

Answer: Ethan Picker

In "A Murder of Crowes", Boyd and Wynn went to Detroit to buy drugs from Sammy Tonin. Tonin's employee, Ethan Picker, killed Sammy in front of them. He planned to take their money to give the Canadians, who Sammy owed. Wynn and Boyd were able to protect their money, and decided to attempt to deal with the Canadians themselves.
3. What was one of the first things Allison said to Raylan when she met him in "The Kids Aren't All Right"?

Answer: "It's amazing I even remember to put on underwear before I leave the house."

Raylan met the social worker on the steps of the police station. He did not know who she was when she started criticizing Loretta's boyfriend, expressing concern for the girl, and flirting with Raylan. She asked him, "You ever had that feeling like you just walked away from your car and you're not sure if you locked it or not?" She then pointed her key fob at the car to lock it, and followed up with that gem about her underwear. Raylan was intrigued.
4. In "Over the Mountain", who killed the informant Wade Messer?

Answer: Dewey Crowe

In "Good Intentions", Daryl Crowe told Dewey that Wade was stealing from him. Then, in "Over the Mountain", Dewey attempted to kill Wade in the woods. Naturally, he messed it up. He shot the man, but then Wade got away while Dewey was looking for something with which to dig (since Wade had brought a webelo shovel that broke).

Then, Dewey fell down a hill and knocked himself out. He eventually caught up with Wade, but lost him again. By the time he and Daryl found Wade again, the informant's body had already been found by Raylan.
5. What did Art discover in season 5 that created a rift between him and Raylan?

Answer: Raylan set up Nicky Augustine's murder.

At the very end of "Shot All to Hell", Raylan admitted to Art that he had told Sammy Tonin that Augustine would be at the airstrip, and he himself was there when Sammy had Nicky killed. While Art knew that Nicky was trying to kill Raylan's pregnant ex-wife Winona, he could not forgive Raylan for stepping outside the law to stop Nicky.

At the beginning of "Kill the Messenger", Art punched Raylan. No explanation was necessary. The rift between Raylan and his boss lasted for most of the rest of the season.
6. In "Shot All to Hell", Boyd executed his plan to get Ava released from prison, including killing Lee Paxton and having the Sheriff killed. Why wasn't Ava released?

Answer: A prison guard framed her for assaulting him.

The prison guard was angry that Ava did not want him and he was humiliated when a female guard bullied him, so he stabbed himself and framed Ava. So, on the day she was supposed to be released, Ava was transferred to the state prison.
7. At the beginning of season 5, Boyd Crowder and Daryl Crowe were enemies, but they formed an uneasy alliance, for a time, during the season. What was the very first job the Crowders and the Crowes took on together?

Answer: Beating up Hunter and his skinhead gang

In "Kill the Messenger", Gunner had his sister jump Ava in prison after he took Boyd's money to protect Ava. Realizing that he was outnumbered, Boyd hired the Crowes to beat up Gunner and hold off his gang, ensuring Ava's safety in prison. The uneasy alliance continued with Boyd's battle against his cousin Johnny and drug smuggling, but did not last long.
8. What was the secret surrounding the teenager Kendal Crowe during season 5 of "Justified"?

Answer: His sister Wendy was really his mother.

In "Whistle Past the Graveyard", Kendal was kidnapped, and Wendy admitted to Raylan that Kendal was her son. In the same episode, Kendal told his "Uncle Jack" that he knew Jack was his father and Wendy was his mother. He did not, however, tell anyone that Danny killed the Haitian.

He was still afraid of his brother/uncle. In this same episode, Raylan tried to help the boy. He gave him the money he had won in the radio contest, rather than using it himself to go to Florida.
9. Who played DEA Agent Alex Miller in season 5?

Answer: Eric Roberts

In "Wrong Roads", Raylan teamed up with Agent Miller to prevent heroin from Mexico from reaching Harlan County. Miller was a great character, and looking at the flawed, tough as leather character, was like looking at Raylan in the future. There was a reference to the agent's injuries, but not to his death, so there is a possibility the Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee will make another appearance on the show in the show's final season, season 6.
10. Who killed Danny Crowe?

Answer: Nobody; his death was an accident

Danny liked to play a game that he called the twenty-one foot rule, where he charged a person with a knife before they could shoot him. In "Weight", Raylan confronted Danny while Danny had the heroin, and was mourning his dog. He decided to play his twenty-one foot game, and began charging at Raylan. Raylan was about to shoot him, but before he could do so, Danny fell in the hole Kendal had dug to bury the animal.

He landed with the knife in his neck and died.
11. Who shot Chief Deputy Art Mullen?

Answer: Daryl Crowe

In "The Toll", Art was protecting Allison after Danny died, because Raylan was concerned Daryl Crowe would seek revenge on him by going after her. As they started to leave her apartment so he could move her to a safe location, there was a gunfight and he was shot. Daryl made Kendal confess so the child would go to jail in his place. Raylan knew it was Daryl, though, and the Marshal Service began working to squeeze Daryl and all his associates.
12. Who killed Ethan Picker?

Answer: Boyd Crowder

In "The Toll", after the drug smuggling was messed up and they lost half the shipment, Wynn asked Katherine to meet both Ethan Picker and Boyd Crowder and determine what he should do next with his troublesome partners. The meeting occurred in Duffy's hotel room. Katherine questioned Boyd about why he should get to live, and Ethan told Wynn to kill Boyd. Boyd then tossed a pack of cigarettes at Ethan Picker. Picker caught the package, and it blew him up. Boyd offered Wynn half of his half of the drugs and left the room.
13. In "Starvation", as Raylan and the whole Marshal Service were going after Daryl Crowe for shooting Art, Boyd Crowder walked right into the Marshal Service, held his arms out, and theatrically announced "_______." Fill in the quote.

Answer: Your savior has arrived

With the Mexicans, Daryl Crowe, and the Marshal Service after them, Boyd and Wynn knew they needed to do something bold. It was Boyd's idea to bring them all together and solve all their problems. The first part of that plan was going to the Marshals and helping them find the heroin and Daryl.

The Marshals knew he was up to something, but decided it was worth the risk. Boyd ended up agreeing to wear a wire with Daryl.
14. How did Raylan turn Wendy against Daryl in "Restitution"?

Answer: He got the Assistant U.S. Attorney and judge to try Kendal as an adult

At the end of "Starvation", Raylan realized they could not prove Daryl shot Art, and they needed to drive a wedge between the Crowes. So, he convinced Assistant U.S. Attorney David Vasquez and the judge to try Wendy's son as an adult. In "Restitution", Wendy realized she needed to betray her brother to save her son, who was facing forty years to life.

But rather than wearing a wire, she decided to go after her brother herself. She taped him confessing to shooting Art. Then, when he attacked her, she shot and killed him.
15. At the end of season 5, Raylan was planning to transfer to Florida, but he postponed his transfer to go after one more criminal in Kentucky. Who was the criminal he was going after?

Answer: Boyd Crowder

After Art woke up, he told Raylan his transfer had come through. Raylan called Winona and told her he was coming home to her and the baby but the Assistant U.S. Attorney and Rachel (now the Acing Chief, in Art's absence) convinced him to stay to go after Boyd. And, Raylan got Ava out of prison to help him catch Boyd. Meanwhile, Boyd was meeting with Katherine Hale and Wynn Duffy about a new scheme to rob something.

This lined everything up for season 6.
