Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did not participate in any way during the talent show?

Answer: Laurel

Olivia did stand-up comedy. Markelle was the MC for the show. Kennedy did a type of variety-comedy act. One of the reasons for doing this was to help Savannah feel better, since she was feeling homesick. Laurel did not participate in the talent show but did sing "Amazing Grace" during the town hall meeting.
2. What phrase did Taylor use during her time on the council?

Answer: Deal with it!

Taylor used the phrase "Deal with it" a number of times while on the council. When the council was running for reelection, Taylor put "Deal with it" at the bottom of her posters.
3. In the final episode, three gold stars were given away. How much did each of them cost?

Answer: $50,000

Those three gold stars cost $50,000 apiece. The council chose Sophia, Morgan, and Migle to receive them. The usual gold stars were only worth $20,000. Both types of gold stars were worth their weight in gold.
4. What was the name of the host?

Answer: Jonathan

Jonathan Karsh was the host of the show. He led each town hall meeting and provided commentary during the showdown.
5. Which of the following rewards for completing a showdown in the prescribed time was lost?

Answer: water slide vs. water pumps

The choice between the water slide and the water pumps that were designed not to freeze was lost. The showdown took place during the second episode. The pioneers had to build a pipeline from a water pump to a water wheel. They had one hour to do this, and only the Green District did not complete the challenge within the allotted time.
Of the remaining choices, the council chose the seven additional outhouses, the frontier microwave, and a free video game arcade (which was later closed).
6. Who was the only person who individually decided what reward the town should get for completing the showdown in the allotted time?

Answer: Sophia

Sophia was elected town sheriff by the council. Since the council was away at an Indian resort during the showdown, they could not compete and chose which reward to receive, if the pioneers completed the showdown in the allotted time. As sheriff, Sophia made that decision. The reward was either hot air balloon rides or a monument dedicated to "Kid Nation". Sophia chose the hot air balloon rides.
7. Which of the following was not the name of one of the 40 pioneers?

Answer: Patrick

Patrick was not one of the 40 pioneers. Leila was a member of the Yellow District and was one of Taylor's best friends. Mike was a member of the Red District and was part of the first town council. Mallory was a member of the Blue District and was Olivia's younger sister.
8. Who received punishment from the council for not helping move the garbage out of Bonanza City?

Answer: Taylor

Taylor and Leila were chosen by the council to move garbage out of Bonanza City, during the sixth episode, because they did not do much to contribute to the town or to their district. Both refused and were told that they would receive a punishment. After some thought, Leila decided to help out, but Taylor still refused. Taylor's punishment was to haul water to the water tower.
9. Who sold engraved necklaces for two Buffalo nickels?

Answer: Jared

Jared made and later sold engraved necklaces for two Buffalo nickels. He ended up making $2.90 and used the money to buy a new outfit. Other pioneers referred to as the Bill Gates of Bonanza City.
10. From what country was Migle?

Answer: Lithuania

Near the end of the pioneers' stay in Bonanza City, Migle related the current situation to the one she experienced when she moved to the US from Lithuania. She had to leave her friends and was a little scared because of this. Similarly, when the pioneers leave Bonanza City, they would have to leave the friends they have made behind.

In both cases, however, the memories would never be lost.
11. Did each of the four districts have to do one of the four jobs at least once?

Answer: Yes

The four jobs were upper class, merchants, cooks, and laborers. The four districts were red, blue, green, and yellow. Each of those four districts was at one point upper class, merchants, cooks, and laborers. It was during the last showdown in which the Blue District became cooks for the first time.
12. After the first election, who retained his or her position on the council?

Answer: Anjay and Laurel

The first town council consisted of Mike, Anjay, Laurel, and Taylor. Mike lost against Guylan in a vote of 1-9. Anjay kept his position in a vote of 7-3. Laurel had no opponent. Taylor lost against Zach in a vote of 4-5.
13. After the second election, who retained his or her position on the council?

Answer: no one

The second town council consisted of Guylan, Anjay, Laurel, and Zach. None of them retained their position. Guylan took himself off the council and was replaced by DK. Anjay lost against Greg in a vote of 2-8, Laurel lost against Michael in a vote of 3-6, and Zach lost against Blaine in a vote of 4-5.
14. Which district did not switch up any of its members?

Answer: Green

Laurel decided that the Green District should not switch up any of its members. Other council members along with other pioneers were upset with this decision. The three pioneers who did move to another new district were Blaine, Nathan, and Emilie. Blaine went from the Blue District to the Yellow District, Nathan went from the Blue District to the Red District, and Emilie went from the Red District to the Blue District.
15. Who did not vote for Taylor in the first district election?

Answer: Randi

Randi was the only girl in the Yellow District not to vote for Taylor. She did believe Taylor was a good leader and a loyal friend, but she thought it was time for someone else to be a leader.
