Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Sawyer awoke from the flashback and heard noises in his tent, what was the first thing he picked up?

Answer: Flashlight

Sawyer was dreaming about when he was a boy and was hiding beneath his bed from his father. He awoke to rustling and snorting in his tent, and reached for a flashlight nearby. When it lit up on the boar's face, Sawyer whacked him with a stick and chased him into the jungle (tent and all).
2. Sawyer called Sayid by all but which name in this episode?

Answer: Ali

Sawyer was collecting his things after the boar destroyed his tent and Sayid approached him. When Sayid mentioned that he thought all the boar had vacated the area, Sawyer sarcastically said, "Well, Genius, I guess we got some bad info". Sayid was smiling and Sawyer told him to, "Laugh it up, Mohamed".

When he called out to Sayid to ask about the voices that whispered in the wind, however, he actually called him by name. Sawyer referred to Sayid as "Ali" in a different episode, "Confidence Man".
3. Hibbs, the man in Sawyer's hotel room, gave him the information in order to get even for something that had occurred earlier. He referred to it as the what?

Answer: Tampa job

The man was actually lying to Sawyer all along. He promised the known whereabouts of the man who had ruined Sawyer's life, which was supposedly Frank Duckett. The man was not the real Sawyer, however. It was later revealed that Hibbs had set Sawyer up because the man owed him money.
4. When Sayid asked Sawyer why the boar was in his tent, what did Sawyer say it was doing?

Answer: Staring at him

Sayid was laughing at Sawyer for the mess the boar had left behind. He said that he thought the boar were gone, and asked why it had gone into Sawyer's tent. Sawyer sarcastically replied, "It was staring at me". He asked Sayid if he was enjoying himself and Sayid replied, "Yes, I am." Sawyer then took off for revenge on the boar and to hunt for his missing tent.
5. Sawyer had carried the "Mr. Sawyer" letter for nearly ten years.

Answer: False

During the "I never" game played by Sawyer and Kate at the campfire, Kate said that she had never carried a letter in her pocket for twenty years and Sawyer drank to it.
6. How many times did Sawyer actually see the boar?

Answer: Three

He saw the boar the first time when he awoke to it in the tent. The second time it attacked him from behind and ran off into the jungle when he fell in the mud. It attacked his site again, but wasn't seen. The last time Sawyer saw the boar he was about to shoot it, but didn't. The boar represented part of Sawyer's past, and also appeared in place of his father in his dream.
7. Locke told the story to Kate and Sawyer about the mysterious dog that appeared how long after his sister's death?

Answer: Six months

Locke told how his sister Jeannie fell off the monkey bars and broke her neck, and how his foster mother (whose story paralleled Sawyer's) blamed herself. He mentioned a Golden Retriever that appeared six months after Jeannie's funeral, almost as Jeannie herself. According to Locke, the dog stayed five years until his mother passed and then disappeared.
8. What else, besides the scrap metal, did Locke find in the jungle?

Answer: Coffee

Locke appeared from the jungle eating fruit and entered Sawyer and Kate's campsite. He said that he had been searching the jungle for useful things from the plane. They asked what he had found, and he said that he had found bags of coffee. They shared the coffee as he told them about his sister's accident.
9. Which did Sawyer and Kate NOT have in common?

Answer: Neither had married

During their "I never" game to learn more about each other, Sawyer told Kate that he knew she had never been to college. She replied that she had never implied that she had been to college, though Sawyer had never gone either. Sawyer said he had never been to Disneyland and Kate didn't drink. Sawyer replied, "That's just sad!" Sawyer said he had never killed a man, but both drank to it. Only Kate had been married (and she said it didn't last very long).
10. Sayid told Charlie about a police officer in Iraq whose family had been killed. According to him, how many children did the man have?

Answer: Three

Hurley approached Sayid to talk about Charlie's behavior when burying Ethan. After they determined that he had Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sayid agreed to talk to Charlie. He told Charlie about how he had volunteered to be on the firing squad to kill the man who had rigged the car with the man's wife and three young children.

He said that the event would be with him forever and told Charlie that he was not alone, so don't pretend to be.
11. Sawyer mentioned that he was happy to think that the island would one day become what?

Answer: A shopping complex

While Sawyer and Kate were hunting for the boar, Sawyer looked around at the tropical island and said he took comfort in knowing that one day it would be a shopping complex or an AutoMall.
Just after his comment, Sawyer and Kate stumbled upon the wallow near the boar's den.
12. Jack's father refused to call his son because he knew it would not fix anything.

Answer: False

He said that everything could be fixed with one phone call, but he did not have the strength to do it.
13. What was Mr. Duckett doing when Sawyer came back the second time to kill him?

Answer: Taking out the garbage

Sawyer approached the stand the first time with the intent of killing the man he believed was the real Sawyer. He ordered shrimp in hot sauce and clutched the gun in his hand, but didn't go through with it until after talking to the man in the bar (Jack's father). Sawyer then learned the mistake he had made, after being set up all along, when he shot Mr. Duckett by the dumpster as he carried the trash bags.
14. The voices whispering to Sawyer in the jungle were in French.

Answer: False

The voices seemed to appear just before the boar did, and surrounded him in the wind. They whispered, "It'll come around" many times. These were the last words uttered by the man that Sawyer killed at Sweet Shrimp, and it seemed they had come back to haunt him.
15. What did the sign in the bar, next to the television set, say in lights?

Answer: Pizza

Sawyer was drinking with the man he didn't know to be Jack's father, and the sign beside the TV said "Pizza". The man shared about how his son thought he hated him, and how fate was made to make him suffer. That, he claimed, was "why the Red Sox would never win the Series". Later, when on the island, Sawyer heard Jack repeat the phrase and realized who the man really was. Jack asked why he wanted to know and Sawyer said, "No reason" and walked off.
