Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The very first thing that "Lost" and "Once Upon A Time" have in common is their producer. Which American TV studio originally produced and aired both series?

Answer: ABC Studios

ABC was the home of "Lost" for six years from 2004 to 2010 and it picked up "Once Upon A Time" in 2011. Both shows are produced by the ABC studios.
2. The creators of "Once Upon A Time" have been a team for a long time. They worked together on 21 episodes of "Lost" as well as seven "Once Upon A Time" episodes in season one alone (including the pilot and finale). What are their names?

Answer: Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz

Kitsis and Horowitz came up with the idea of a TV show about fairytale characters trapped in the real world some years before they even started working on "Lost", but they decided to wait until "Lost" was finished to embark on this project.
3. Apart from general similarities, the writers have hidden specific "Lost" easter eggs in some episodes of "Once Upon A Time". Which item from "Lost" has NOT made an appearance on the other show in season 1 and/or 2?

Answer: The song "You All Everybody"

The MacCutcheon whisky and Apollo bars are consumed by various characters on "Once Upon A Time". A plane with the Oceanic logo can be seen passing overhead when Pinocchio wakes up in the woods in "The Stranger". Other deliberate allusions to "Lost" include a few appearances of the infamous Numbers, such as the road sign indicating Roads 4 and 23 that Emma slams into in "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree", the tower clock that stops at 8:15 (a.k.a. the flight number of the Oceanic flight that started it all on "Lost"), or Regina's street address at house number 108.
4. Desmond from "Lost" is played by a Scottish actor. He is a bit of an 'outsider' in the closely knit community of characters, and he can't stop thinking about the woman he lost in his "other" life. His mind also seems to be special. Which character from "Once Upon A Time" also fits this description?

Answer: Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin

Desmond David Hume on "Lost" doesn't arrive on the island with the others, which puts him slightly aside from the other main characters. His one great motivation to keep going is the woman he loves, Penelope "Penny" Widmore. Ever since he gets too close to the magnetic reaction when the numbers in the Swan are not entered in time, Desmond has been having visions of the future as well as had his mind skip between the past and the present. Mr. Gold on "Once Upon A Time" is really Rumplestiltskin, the "Dark One", a kind of demon with magic powers and a reputation of striking deals with a catch.

This also puts him outside of the row of main characters, most of whom are friends or allies. He never forgot Belle, the woman he pushed away and eventually finds again in Storybrooke, and his mind is special because he is the only person in Storybrooke who has clear memories of his former self before the curse (not counting the Huntsman, whose memories started returning only gradually).
5. Which of the following statements does NOT apply to both "Lost" and "Once Upon A Time"?

Answer: The characters do not remember their lives before they were stranded

On "Lost", the characters are survivors of a plane crash on a remote island with mysterious properties, very definitely a place they did not choose. Over the course of the show, it becomes clear that the paths and lives of most characters have already crossed before the plane crash, often without them being aware of that. For the first few seasons, each episode tells part of the ongoing story on the island and focuses on the past of a different character every time, told in flashbacks.
"Once Upon A Time" employs a technique similar to that: it also focuses on a certain character's past each time, so the audience gradually learns more and more about them. Since the characters are trapped in the real world as the result of a curse, they also did not choose the place, and the flashbacks show clearly that most characters have been interacting in the enchanted forest.
In contrast to "Once Upon A Time", however, the characters on "Lost" are very well aware of their lives before they were stranded, and they're constantly trying to get back. On "Once Upon A Time", the characters only remember once the curse is broken at the end of the first season.
6. Who of the following actors has not both starred on or appeared in "Lost" and appeared in season one and/or two of "Once Upon A Time"?

Answer: Zuleikha Robinson

Zuleikha Robinson never starred on the parent show; however, she had a recurring role on the short-lived spin-off "Once Upon A Time In Wonderland", along with another "Lost" veteran: Naveen "Sayid Jarrah" Andrews, who played the main antagonist on "Wonderland".

Alan Dale (Charles Widmore on "Lost") is the first "Lost" actor to appear on "Once Upon A Time". He plays King George, the (adopted) father of Charming, and the District Attorney in Storybrooke.

Emilie de Ravin (Claire Littleton on "Lost") appears in two episodes of season 1 as Belle (as in "Beauty and the Beast") and was promoted to the main cast in season 2.

Lana Parrilla, who plays Regina/The Evil Queen on "Once Upon A Time", is in two episodes of "Lost" as Greta, a supporting character, in the season 3 episodes "Greatest Hits" and "Through The Looking Glass". Her character only has a few brief scenes before being killed by Mikhail (Andrew Divoff).

But there are even more "Lost" actors on "Once upon a Time": There is Jorge Garcia (Hurley Reyes on "Lost"), who appears in the season 2 episode "Tallahassee" as the Giant (at the top of the beanstalk). He reprises that role later in the episode "Tiny", where we learn that his name is Anton. Season 3 has Rebecca Mader (Charlotte Lewis on "Lost") playing the Wicked Witch of the West with gusto, and season 4 had a story arc featuring the Snow Queen, layed by none other than Elizabeth Mitchell a.k.a. Juliet Burke.
7. A particular city is mentioned in an episode title of "Lost" as well as an episode title of "Once Upon A Time". Which city is it?

Answer: Tallahassee

Tallahassee is the only city ever to be mentioned in full in an episode title of "Lost" - "The Man From Tallahassee" (season 3). That episode centers on John Locke's past and his conflict with his biological father, Anthony Cooper (who is being referred to as the "man from Tallahassee" by Ben). On the island, it features the deal Jack makes with the Others and Locke blowing up the submarine.

On "Once Upon A Time", the season 2 episode "Tallahassee" tells some more of Emma's backstory. Tallahassee is a city picked at random by her and her boyfriend to settle down in. In the present, the episode shows Emma and Hook's quest to the top of the beanstalk, where they encounter a giant (Jorge Garcia) and find the compass that is supposed to take Emma and Snow back to Storybrooke.
8. On "Lost", the character John Locke is frequently heard to say, "Don't tell me what I can't do!" Two characters on "Once Upon A Time" have made very similar statements in seasons 1 and 2. Which characters?

Answer: Grumpy and Regina

In the season 1 episode "Dreamy", Leroy complains, "My whole life people made it their business to tell me what I can't do!" In the season 2 episode "The Cricket Game", Regina admonishes a guard with the words, "Do not tell me what we can or can't do!"
9. In the season 2 episode "Tiny" of "Once Upon A Time", Emma, Henry and Mr. Gold board a plane operated by Oceanic Air.

Answer: False

I was half expecting the airline to be Oceanic when I first watched this episode, but it isn't. It is Ajira Airways, the other airline that is mentioned on "Lost" and operator of flight 316 to Guam.
10. A very well-concealed "Lost" easter egg on "Once Upon A Time" is a certain band whose logo pops up every now and then, much as it did on "Lost". It can be seen as a bumper sticker on Emma's car and a t-shirt worn by Dopey in season 2. What is the name of that band?

Answer: Geronimo Jackson

Geronimo Jackson are first mentioned on "Lost" when their album "Magna Carta" is found in the Swan Station. The producers have always insisted that the band is real but has been forgotten over time.
On "Once Upon A Time," Emma has a sticker of their album "Dharma Lady" in the corner of her car's rear window. That song is real.
