After Willie's unexpected death, Missie and Mattie left Tettsford Junction for her hometown of Anderson Corner presumably leaving the ranch to Jeff and Colette. Clark waited in town to pick up Missie and Mattie to take them home.

After saying their goodbyes to Willie and Kathy's graves, Missie and Matty left for Anderson Corner. On the trip Matty said they moving to his grandma and grandpa's house after his dad died a couple years back.

Missie didn't have much to offer but she couldn't help but Belinda Marshall who had to nudge a little boy away from her. Belinda was 14 and had only been through 2nd grade and therefore couldn't read.

The little boy she nudged away was her brother Jacob Marshall. She explains it all to Missie and Sheriff Tyler later on. Other towns the train stopped at had couples who could take in a child but felt so guilty of splitting up brothers and sisters they didn't get picked.

Belinda and Matty went to pick berries for a pie that Belinda was going to make. Matty fell down the side scraping the hell out of his arm. Belinda got him up and to town where Sheriff Zach Tyler took them home to Missie.

Missie knew Belinda was sneaking out so she pretended to be asleep and snuck out after her. She was hiding behind a tree where Belinda was meeting with Jacob. Jacob went back inside to the Pettis house and Belinda turned to leave only she ran into Missie and Zach. Belinda explained that Jacob was her brother and she was afraid that Missie wouldn't have adopted two children as everyone else was too afraid to adopt more than one child.

She also said the Pettises were mean to Jacob: beating him, starving him and working him like crazy.

She was Zach's first love and they had been childhood friends beforehand. When Eleanor's father started to hit her Zach couldn't do much he was kid but when he grew up he stood up to Eleanor's father who never laid a hand on her again. She got caught in a bank robbery and was killed.

Missie, Matty and Belinda were at the Davis ranch when Matty ran into the cabin saying one of the puppies wasn't breathing. Belinda took the puppy in her arms and breathed into its mouth and suddenly the puppy sprang back to life. Belinda explained to Missie that she and Jacob had a baby sister who had the same problem as the puppy.

She tried the same thing but it didn't work and the sister died.

Belinda ran off to get Jacob and together they ran away just as a raging storm started. Sheriff Tyler took off in the raging storm to find them himself which he did. Zach got the Pettises to give up all custody of Jacob or he'll press charges against them. So Missie adopted him as well.

Missie talked to Willie and felt ready to accept the new necklace from Zach. She also kissed him and suddenly they were married.
