Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Henry Blake's wife was named Lorraine, or at least that's what he called her when he spoke to her on the telephone. However, during an episode in the first season, by what name did he refer to her?

Answer: Mildred

Some fans have speculated that Henry's wife's name includes both Lorraine and Mildred, perhaps Mildred Lorraine Blake, or vice-versa. Regardless, after the first season, we never hear the name Mildred in reference to his wife again.
2. In the episode 'Mail Call', Hawkeye mentions that he has a brother, while in later episodes he becomes an only child.

Answer: False

Actually, it's a sister he mentions. Not only does he apparently have a sister in that episode, she has also knit him a sweater, albeit a very poorly wrought one.
3. In the first season episode 'Dear Dad', Hawkeye mentions that he and his father have a home in what state, never to be mentioned again in later episodes?

Answer: Vermont

Of course, Hawkeye also mentions in another episode that he and his father 'summer' in Maine, so it very well could be that they own two dwellings. However, this is hard to believe considering that they are small town doctors. In addition, Hawkeye only mentions Crabapple Cove, Maine as his home for the rest of the series.
4. What 'M*A*S*H' character's father is claimed dead in an early episode, only to appear in person in a much later episode?

Answer: Margaret

In the season three episode 'Bulletin Board', Margaret's 'dead' father is mentioned. However, in the season nine episode 'Father's Day', 'Howitzer' Al Houlihan actually appears (played by Andrew Duggan).
5. Allan Arbus appeared in a total of 12 episodes of 'M*A*S*H', nearly always as Dr. Sidney Freedman. But in his first appearance in the season two episode 'Radar's Report', what was Sidney's first name?

Answer: Milton

Again, fans have theorized that his full name is either Sidney Milton Freedman, or Milton Sidney Freedman, and he just happened to refer to himself as Milton in the first episode. It might be that they changed his name to Sidney because there is a famous economist named Milton Friedman.
6. Sidney Freedman was not the only minor character to go through a name adjustment. What semi-regular character was originally introduced as Captain Halloran?

Answer: Colonel Flagg

In the second season episode 'Deal Me Out', Edward Winter played Captain Halloran, from army intelligence. The theory here is that 'Captain Halloran' was just another alias of Colonel Flagg, but alas, in that episode he does act a little differently than Flagg, less gung ho.
7. What character on 'M*A*S*H' mentioned early on that he had his home in Nebraska?

Answer: Colonel Potter

In an episode in the fourth season, Colonel Potter mentions that his home is in Nebraska. Later, his hometown is established as Hannibal, Missouri, also the hometown of Mark Twain.
8. Which major character on 'M*A*S*H' was initially played by a different actor?

Answer: Father Mulcahy

In the pilot episode, the Father Mulcahy character was played by actor George Morgan. When the character next appeared in the third episode of the series 'Requiem for a Lightweight', it was William Christopher playing him.
9. Which of these minor 'M*A*S*H' characters was played by two different actors?

Answer: Donald Penobscott

Donald Penobscott was played by Beeson Carroll in his first appearance in the fifth season episode 'Margaret's Marriage', while in the sixth season episode 'The M*A*S*H Olympics', he is played by actor Mike Henry.
10. Before she finally became Nurse Kellye, by which of these names was Kellye Nakahara not listed in the credits of various 'M*A*S*H' episodes?

Answer: Thomas

Kellye Nakahara, the nurse who appeared in more 'M*A*S*H' episodes than any other besides Margaret Houlihan, appeared as Nurse Yamato in 'Hot Lips and Empty Arms', Nurse Able in 'A Full Rich Day' and Nurse Charlie in 'Bulletin Board'. She was in a total of 56 episodes!
