Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Radar and Henry are scrambling around the office preparing for the arrival of one of America's greatest war heroes, namely General 'Iron Guts' Kelly. Needless to say, they don't prepare very well, as the General arrives unexpectedly early to the 4077th. What embarrassing thing happens to Henry when the General walks into his office?

Answer: He gets his gum stuck to his hat

In a scene that simply captures the essence of Henry, he and Radar are simply discombobulated at the thought of General Kelly visiting. Henry takes a drink of vodka to disguise the smell of bourbon on his breath. When this doesn't work, he takes a piece of gum from Radar, but suddenly realizes that he can't be seen chewing bubble gum in front of a general.

In the process of disgarding it, the gum gets stuck on his hand, and in turn, on his hat.
2. General Kelly seems relatively unconcerned by Henry's silliness, and the generous General asks Henry to take him on a mini-tour of camp. They end up at the Officer's Club where they share a drink. At this point, General Kelly feels that something is missing to liven up the place. What is the 4077th lacking?

Answer: Gunfire

When the General announces his longing for gunfire, Henry suggests that he can order some men to begin firing over at the rifle range. The General seems pleased by this, likening the sound of gunfire to 'music'.
3. General Kelly's aide-de-camp is one Colonel Wortman, an obsessively loyal, bald-pated military officer who is at the General's beck and call. Who very entertainingly portrays Wortman in this episode?

Answer: Keene Curtis

Keene Curtis played John Allen Hill, owner of Melville's, on the sitcom 'Cheers'. This was Curtis's only appearance on 'M*A*S*H', but what an appearance it was!
4. When General Kelly sees Margaret in the Officer's Club, his objective becomes clear...Margaret's tent. After sending Colonel Wortman off with Frank to inspect the camp, the General accompanies Margaret to her quarters. Unfortunately, he dies there! Margaret recruits Hawkeye and Trapper to remove the General's body. What, specifically, is the cause of his death?

Answer: Myocardial infarction

Technically, it was a massive M.I., but in reality, twas Margaret that was simply too much for him! When Colonel Wortman discovers that General Kelly is dead, his immediate reaction is to claim that the General died in combat. Hawkeye and Trapper won't go along with this, as per the Hippocratic Oath.
5. Colonel Wortman bursts into Radar's office, requesting that the lad locate the fighting war. It seems that the Colonel wants to bring the General's dead body to the fighting! After seeing Radar with his teddy bear in hand, the Colonel says, 'That's not a teddy bear.' What is Radar's amusing response?

Answer: Regulations against the real kind.

Radar's teddy bear is the butt of a number of jokes in the early years of the show. In the second to last episode, the teddy bear is placed in a time capsule, but its actual, current location is at the Smithsonian Institute.
6. Radar radios several locations for Colonel Wortman, in the hopes of locating the fighting the war. After contacting 'G Sector', the Colonel is disappointed to discover that there is no battle, but plenty of what?

Answer: Diarrhea

Specifically, this call is to the 8th Army, 73rd Artillery in G Sector. After several calls, he finally locates the fighting war.

During the frustrating process, Colonel Wortman asks Radar if he knows where there is some 'action' going on. Radar replies that there's usually something happening at Rosie's place.
7. Frank, finally free of Colonel Wortman's distractions, arrives at Margaret's tent. Believing something strange is going on, he grills Margaret about her activities that evening. What piece of evidence does he find on her bed, suggesting that the General has been there?

Answer: A star

Frank sits on one of the General's stars, and immediately Margaret is on the defensive. She makes up an elaborate story about how the General visited her tent because he has a niece who wants to become an army nurse. He wanted to know what a nurse's tent looked like.
8. Odd as it may seem, the General is 'killed' a second time. What happens to the General the second time he meets his untimely demise?

Answer: Ambulance accident

The General's body has been loaded into an ambulance on Colonel Wortman's orders, but the ambulance takes off without his authorization. Henry picks up the phone in the office and discovers that the ambulance has gone over an embankment. Several Korean 'working girls' were inside, and they were relatively unhurt, but the General has been 'killed' (again).
9. When Colonel Wortman hears the most recent news about the General, he becomes more adamant than ever about getting his boss up to the fighting front. Here, we learn the general's first name. What is it?

Answer: Robert

'Major General Robert 'Iron Guts' Kelly is gonna perish in a full-scale, blazing, all-out, glorious, star-spangled death,' Colonel Wortman proclaims. When Henry incredulously confers with Hawkeye and Trapper about Wortman's plan, the two doctors confirm it. 'That's crazy,' says Henry.
10. General 'Iron Guts' Kelly is a three-star general.

Answer: True

At the end of the episode, Colonel Wortman calls Kelly a 'major general', but in the 'Stars & Stripes' that Trapper reads, he is listed as a 'lieutenant general'. The newspaper is correct, a three-star general (the number of stars Kelly wears) is called a lieutenant general.
