Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To begin the episode, Springfield has a run-in with what animal?

Answer: Bear

Even though it is the town's first and only bear attack in documented history, a "Bear Patrol" is instituted to give piece of mind to the townspeople.

The scream that Ned Flanders gives off in fear of the bear is taken directly from the 1960 film "Psycho".
2. Finish this quote, as said by Nelson Muntz to the foreign-exchange student Uter: "Hey, German boy. Go back to ________!"

Answer: Germania

Despite being in the country legally, the entire student population picks on Uter. The only one who is not laughing is Groundskeeper Willie.

Willie: "You want to pick on immigrants? Then pick on Willie!"
Skinner: "Willie, please. The students want to pick on someone their own size."
3. Apu tells Marge the story of how he graduated at the top of his class and was accepted for graduate studies in America. How many students did he say were in his graduating class?

Answer: 7,000,000

This is a not-so-subtle jab at India's large population, which greatly exceeds one billion. Apu's story also features a young Manjula, who would go on to become his wife in the season 9 episode "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons".
4. According to Abe Simpson's story, where did his family live when they came to America?

Answer: Statue of Liberty

Abe: "We had to move out once we filled the entire head with garbage."

Some lines from Abe's story are taken directly from the 1942 film "Casablanca".
5. Who attempts to purchase alcohol and cigars from the Kwik-E-Mart using a fake ID?

Answer: Kearney

Despite a fake name and birth date appearing on the ID, Apu clearly identifies him as Kearney because he shops at the Kwik-E-Mart often. In exchange for allowing him to purchase the items underage, Kearney must tell Apu from whom he got the fake ID.
6. How many stars are on the American flag that Homer uses to tutor Apu?

Answer: 47

Homer: "Now we all know the 13 stripes are for good luck. But why does the American flag have precisely 47 stars?"
Apu: "Because this particular flag is ridiculously out of date. The library must have purchased it during the brief period in 1912 after New Mexico became a state but before Arizona did."
Homer: "Uhhh... partial credit."

For the record, only 39 days passed between when New Mexico and Arizona joined the Union.
7. Who is NOT seen writing the citizenship exam?

Answer: Groundskeeper Willie

The five known Springfieldians shown writing the exam are Apu, Nick Riviera, Bumblebee Man, Moe Szyslak, and Luigi. Moe is wearing a fake mustache, not wanting anyone to know he is an illegal immigrant. Groundskeeper Willie is shown at the end of the episode, being deported.
8. Who is the speaker of this line? "If I could just say a few words... I'd be a better public speaker!"

Answer: Homer Simpson

This prompts Bart to crack up in laughter, and is a lead-in for Homer's speech to oppose Proposition 24.

Much of the "Proposition 24" concept is borrowed from California Proposition 187, a ballot from 1994.
9. Proposition 24 still passes with a record 95%.

Answer: True

Homer: "When are people going to learn? Democracy doesn't work!"

Shortly after this line, Apu receives his first jury duty summons... which he subsequently throws away.
10. Who repeatedly wants somebody to "think of the children", a line repeated often throughout the episode?

Answer: Helen Lovejoy

In response to the Bear threat, Helen is seen saying a variant of this line 3 times in a matter of two minutes.

At the 4:00 mark of the episode, she says "Think of the children!"
At the 5:27 mark, she says "Won't you think of the children!"
At the 5:58 mark, she says "Ohhh! Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?"

Well, that's it! Thanks for playing! Hope you enjoyed it!
