Question 2 of 10
2. One of the musical sketches in the show features Wayne and Wanda. They are not very good singers and rarely make it to the chorus at all, as some accident always occurs to them. Question 3 of 10
3. The "Muppet Show" characters not only sing, they dance a lot as well. In the segment "At the Dance", we see several characters on the dance floor, making rather corny, but still amusing jokes. One of the characters is often shown to throw his dance partners around a lot with a rather ferocious-looking dipping style. Who is this wild dancer? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "The Muppet Show" has its own news segment. As one might expect, the news does not really reflect a normal news show. The host is often confronted with tragedy when he tries to read an item. When he announces falling stars in Alabama, stars are seen to fall all over him for instance. What happens when the newsman receives a hotline call from Washington D.C. ? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. One of the stars of the show is, of course, Miss Piggy. She stars in a parody of "Star Trek" called "Pigs in Space". Question 6 of 10
6. Muppets are also into science. In the "Muppet Labs", you can find Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, who works on one crazy invention after another. He is assisted by the rather meek Beaker, who is always the victim of the experiments that Bunsen starts. In one episode we find that Dr. Honeydew has invented a teleporter, which is used to transport people from one location to another. Which Muppet character is teleported away, when he gets angry about the experiment? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. A segment which is not that well-known is "Bear on Patrol". It features Fozzie as a police officer out on patrol. He is joined in this sketch by one of the other Muppet characters, who plays the role of the Police Chief. Who is this character? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Miss Piggy is a very popular character on "The Muppet Show". Not only is she featured in "Pigs in Space", but also on "Veterinarian's Hospital". This sketch features her as a nurse alongside Rowlf (as a quack gone to the dogs) and Janice (as the other nurse). In true Muppet fashion, a lot of zany jokes follow, often at the expense of the patient they are treating (or rather, not treating). A long list of patients is seen on the sketch, but which patient did we not see in any of the segments? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Fozzie regularly does a comedy segment on the show. His jokes are rarely appreciated, though, and he mostly gets a lot of criticism from Statler and Waldorf, who always make comments from their balcony box. On one show, they rate the acts appearing on stage and give Fozzie a 1, saying he never was better. The guest star manages to cheer Fozzie up again and helps him regain his confidence. She sings a wonderful rendition of the song "Reach Out and Touch" at the end. Who is this guest star? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the more famous sketches on the "Muppet Show" is the Swedish chef. He is a hilarious character speaking a language that might be Swedish to some, but is remarkably understandable when you listen closely. In one of his appearances, he tries to make meatballs. What is the remarkable feature of these meatballs?

Answer: They bounce.

When one of the meatballs falls out of the pan, it bounces right off the stage. The Swedish Chef goes on to show the audience how to serve the dish. He takes that quite literally by using a tennis racket. One of the grumpy old guys in the balcony box, Statler, actually returns the serve.

The Swedish Chef is known for throwing around his cooking utensils and singing in Swedish, always ending in his trademark "Börk, Börk, Börk". He is not particularly famous for his cooking skills, with his food often escaping or actually viciously attacking him. Some of his more funny moments include him preparing chocolate mousse (while using a moose) or donuts (using a gun to make a hole in them).
2. One of the musical sketches in the show features Wayne and Wanda. They are not very good singers and rarely make it to the chorus at all, as some accident always occurs to them. They are traditionally introduced by a "Muppet Show" character who sees them as an opportunity to bring some "good, wholesome entertainment" to the show. Who is this character?

Answer: Sam the Eagle

Sam the Eagle appears to be none too happy on "The Muppet Show". He always tries to get more cultural elements on the show. He is a bald eagle, which is also the symbol of the United States. His first name, Sam, seems to come from "Uncle Sam", a nickname of the United States. Although he never ceases to talk about real American culture, he is often shown to be completely ignorant of culture. On the episode featuring guest star ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev, Sam is heard saying that he [Nureyev] is his favourite opera singer.

Wayne and Wanda really should be given an award for perseverance. They keep trying to perform, despite their poor singing qualities and the fact that tragedy seems to follow them around. Their rendition of "Row, Row, Row" ends with the boat that they sit in sinking, and when they try "Let it Snow", snow does indeed fall, but in such huge amounts that they are forced to retire before the end of the song again.

Answer: Animal

If you've ever had dancing classes with a partner that stepped on your toes a lot, you might consider it a nice experience compared to dancing with Animal. He is rather fond of dipping his partner quite literally to the ground. It is quite a surprise he manages to find anyone willing to dance with him at all. In "At the Dance", things are never very quiet in any case with chandeliers falling down from the ceiling or dancers actually exploding right on stage. Never a dull moment at "The Muppet Show".

Animal is also the drummer of Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, the band that regularly plays on the show. His drumming style is as wild as he is. He is very much out of control and is often chained to the drum set, with few people able to control him properly. He does not talk a lot, but merely grunts and shouts.

Answer: He burns himself while trying to pick up the phone.

The "Mupppet News Flash" is a typical example of the zany jokes that feature so often on the show. When the newsman does receive a hotline call, the phone is indeed very hot, so he burns himself. The fact that the phone is red also contributes to the hotness theme.

Other famous appearances of the newsman include him running on stage to announce there is no news and him blowing up when announcing a segment on television reporters blowing up.
5. One of the stars of the show is, of course, Miss Piggy. She stars in a parody of "Star Trek" called "Pigs in Space". A famous episode of this segment features a British comedy actor as a pirate called Long John Silverstein trying to take over the USS Swinetrek. Which actor is featured in this sketch?

Answer: John Cleese

"Pigs in Space" is a parody of "Star Trek", which features Miss Piggy, Dr. Julius Strangepork and Link Hogthrob. Miss Piggy is the first mate, with Link being the captain of the ship. The sketch with John Cleese is a classic one. Cleese stars as pirate Long John Silverstein, trying to take over the USS Swinetrek.

His parrot comments on his efforts and it ends up in a fierce debate between the parrot and Cleese. Other famous sketches include the one where the crew sees a mysterious light (which turns out to be Gonzo on a flying motorcycle) and the crew of "Star Wars" taking over the ship to find their friend Chewbacca (with Link very much admiring Luke Skywalker's suit, and Miss Piggy appearing as Princess Leia).

Answer: Kermit

The teleporter sketch appears in the episode where Peter Sellers guest stars. During the episode, Kermit sees Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker appear and then suddenly disappear a few times. When the invention is finally formally introduced, Kermit realizes what has been going on and gets very mad. He is then teleported away by Bunsen. This sets off a rather amusing set of teleportations gone wrong involving Kermit, Beaker and a gorilla called Quongo.

Some of the other inventions created in the "Muppet Labs" are the automatic wastebasket (which is very efficient at getting rid of waste, but is a little too active) and edible paperclips (which cause Beaker's nose to fall off). As Dr. Bunsen Honeydew always explains, the labs are where the future is being made today.
7. A segment which is not that well-known is "Bear on Patrol". It features Fozzie as a police officer out on patrol. He is joined in this sketch by one of the other Muppet characters, who plays the role of the Police Chief. Who is this character?

Answer: Link Hogthrob

The police chief in this sketch is portrayed by Link Hogthrob, who is better known for his appearance in "Pigs in Space". Both Fozzie and Link are not very effective in carrying out their police duties. They tend to end up locked in their own jail cell or cuffed together by their own handcuffs.

The segment also features the arrest of a man with a banana for a nose. Anything can happen in a Muppets' sketch obviously!

Answer: A computer

The trio never got around to operating on a computer. They did manage to treat a telephone. When Nurse Janice asks whether she should give it an anaesthetic, Dr. Rowlf replies that she better make it a local, because long distance costs too much. When Dr. Rowlf finds only a shoe on the operating table, he wonders where the rest of the patient is. Nurse Piggy replies that maybe he got cold feet.

When they treat a loaf of bread. Dr. Rowlf asks what the trouble is, to which the bread replies that he might have a yeast infection.

Answer: Diana Ross

It's Diana Ross that manages to help Fozzie regain his confidence. In the opening segment, the gopher, Scooter, hands her a very big club. When she asks what it is for, he replies that he had heard she always has a very big fan club wherever she goes.

All three other women do feature in episodes of "The Muppet Show". Liza Minelli appears in a special episode, which is a murder mystery featuring Kermit in the role of detective. Shirley Bassey performs her hit song "Goldfinger" on the show, surrounded by bars of gold. Loretta Lynn is seen in the episode where the theater has to be fumigated, so the show is moved to a railway station.
10. In a few shows, Kermit acts as the host of a panel discussion. The panel focuses on important questions such as: "Was William Shakespeare in fact Bacon?" or "What is the meaning of life?". When the panel discusses the question "Does travel broaden the mind?", Miss Piggy gets into a fight with one of the other female panel guests. Who is this guest?

Answer: Mildred Huxtetter

Miss Piggy manages to get into a fight with Mildred Huxtetter. Mildred is not often seen on the show, but does also feature alongside George in "At the Dance" on several occasions. She is seen dancing with Charles Aznavour in yet another episode. Candice Bergen is also seen in this sketch, portraying a travel guide author called Clara Cartwell.

When she tells Sam the Eagle about actor Marcello Mastroianni, he thinks it is an Italian soup.
