Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Sunday, Monday, happy days" is the familiar opening line of the popular TV show. But that was not the original opening theme song. What rock and roll classic was the original opening theme for "Happy Days"?

Answer: "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets

"Rock Around The Clock" served as the opening theme of the show for the first two seasons. The "Happy Days" theme song that replaced it was a Top Ten hit for Pratt and McClain in 1976.
2. The theme song of "The Andy Griffith Show" actually had a title and lyrics. Andy recorded a vocal but it was never used as the show's theme song. What is the title?

Answer: The Fishin' Hole

Earle Hagen, who wrote the song, also wrote several other theme songs for TV shows. The producers decided not to use the vocal version, feeling it would be catchier if it were whistled. That turned out to be a very wise decision.
3. According to the "Gilligan's Island" theme song, what two adjectives describe the Skipper?

Answer: Brave and sure

There were two versions of the "Gilligan" theme. The original omitted "The Professor and Mary Ann", merely referring to them as "the rest".
4. What former teen idol of the '50s and '60s composed the theme song for Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show"?

Answer: Paul Anka

Paul Anka also wrote the Tom Jones hit "She's A Lady" and the English lyrics to the classic "My Way", a signature song for both Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. And of course he had a very successful singing career of his own with lots of hits.
5. What is the title of the "M*A*S*H" theme song? It was sung in the original movie but not on the TV show.

Answer: Suicide is Painless

The lyrics were written by Mike Altman, son of the movie's director Robert Altman. Johnny Mandel composed the melody.
6. What teen idol sang the theme song for the "Gidget" TV series?

Answer: Johnny Tillotson

Noted singing group The Four Freshmen sang the theme in the pilot episode, but Johnny Tillotson sang it for the series. Johnny went on to a successful career as a pop singer with a country flavor to his hits.
7. Who sang the theme song to the "Rawhide" TV show?

Answer: Frankie Laine

The "Rawhide" theme has been covered, both vocally and instrumentally, by several artists and groups. Who can forget that memorable scene in "The Blues Brothers" when Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi sang it?
8. What famous songwriting team composed the "Bonanza" theme song?

Answer: Jay Livingston and Ray Evans

There were several variations of the lyrics, but they were never used on the show. The theme used to open and close the show was strictly instrumental. However, Johnny Cash had a big crossover hit with a vocal version of the song.
9. The theme song for "The Fall Guy" was a song entitled "The Unknown Stuntman". Who sang it?

Answer: The show's star Lee Majors

In the opening credits while the theme is sung, clips of stunts from actual movies such as "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Silver Streak" are shown. "The Fall Guy" never achieved the popularity of Majors' hit series "The Six Million Dollar Man" but it was an entertaining show that ran for five seasons in the early '80s.
10. This country great wrote and performed the theme song for "The Dukes of Hazzard" TV show. Who was he?

Answer: Waylon Jennings

Waylon also narrated the show and was called "The Balladeer" on the show's credits. He had a #1 country hit with the show's theme, a slightly altered version of the original.
