Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 'Henflick Limit', reached after Units 00 and 02's battle with Zeruel, is named after a real life theory about an specific mechanism that creates a limitation in the division of cells. Who discovered this theory/limit?

Answer: Leonard Hayflick

Dr. Leonard Hayflick (Born in 1928), Ph.D., is a famous professor of Anatomy and Medical Microbiology who founded the council of the 'NIA' ('National Institute of Aging'). He won the 'Sandoz Prize for Gerontological Research' in 1991 and wrote the famous book 'How and Why We Age'. Among the years, Dr. Hayflick achieved a series of discoveries and influential theories such as the anti-aging processes, the causes for atypical pneumonia and the invention of the 'famous inverted microscope' (between others).
2. What's the blue sports car that appears in the poster inside Misato's room?

Answer: Alpine "Berlinette" A110

In Episode 24 we see (while Misato is thinking about the Fifth Child) that there's a poster of a blue Alpine A110 sports coupé shot from behind during a race. A curious fact is that she actually drives a Renault Alpine A310 blue coupé (the successor of the Alpine A110). More secret messages, perhaps?
3. Which of these characters appears (or leaves any sign of its existence) in the alternative universe of Episode 26?

Answer: Pen-Pen

At the beginning of the 'alternative universe dream' we see a close-up of Shinji's room. In there we can see a cello, a CD player, a strange bloody-hand picture and a "head-shaking" alarm clock that resembles Pen-Pen, the 'warm-water penguin'.
4. What's the magazine that First Lieutenant Makoto Hyuga read (and laughs at) in Episode 10, while working at NERV?

Answer: 'Weekly Boo!'

While taking a break at NERV Headquarters, Maya was reading a brown book (maybe a novel?), Shigeru Aoba played air guitar while listening to his headphones and Hyuga simply entertained himself with a comic book. On the other hand, Misato and Ritsuko were talking about the school trip to Okinawa while our favourite pilots found themselves at the 'Olympic' pool of the facilities.
5. Which of these characters is the oldest?

Answer: Shinji Ikari

The oldest children of 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' is the fifteen years old Kaworu Nagisa (born September 13, 2000), followed by Shinji Ikari (born June 6, 2001), Kensuke Aida (born September 12, 2001), Asuka Langley Soryu (born December 4, 2001), Touji Suzuhara (born December 26, 2001) and the youngest of all: Hikari Horaki (born February 18, 2002).
6. The 'Artificial Evolution Laboratory', located in the town of Hakone, was the front base of operations for what secret organization?

Answer: Gehirn

'GEHIRN' was the predecessor of NERV, supported by SEELE and directed by Gendo Ikari and his co-workers: Naoko Akagi, Yui Ikari, Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu, Dr. Katsuragi, Kouzou Fuyutsuki, Ritsuko Akagi and Misato Katsuragi. It was dissolved and replaced for NERV by SEELE in the year 2010, after the completion of the MAGI supercomputers and the suicide of Naoko.
7. When the Eva Unit-00 goes to the Terminal Dogma to retreat the Lance of Longinus from Lilith's chest, it is said to "have passed through the 6th Malebolge Trench". This is a reference extracted from what famous/influential italian poem, written between 1308 and 1321 by Dante Alighieri?

Answer: The Divine Comedy

The 'Malebolge' is depicted as the "eight circle of hell", divided in ten different trenches/circles/bolgias. Each trench resembles a different kind of punish for a different kind of sin (respectively). The sixth Malebolge Trench centers in the punish of hypocrites (specially 'Caiphas the Pharisee', who is crucified inside the circle for insisting in the execution of Jesus Christ).

In 'Neon Genesis Evangelion', this fact implies that Malebolge is basically the Terminal Dogma (which is also divided in ten levels) and that Unit-00 is technically leaving the 6th trench and entering the 7th (the circle where the souls of thieves remain).
8. In Episode 17, Kaji was taking a bath in Misato's house while 'babysitting' Asuka and Shinji. Meanwhile, this two were talking about the Fourth Children (Asuka watched TV and read a magazine while Shinji read a comic book). At that exact moment, they were showing a dramatic/romantic movie in TV involving a woman who complained about the boyfriend's bad kissing (and stuff).

Answer: True

Indeed! Remember that a few days before, Asuka and Shinji kissed while Misato and Kaji were walking through the streets, talking about Misato's reasons for breaking up with him). I believe that one of the reasons for which Asuka was so distant with Shinji at that moment are based on the subjects discussed in the novel/movie.

At the moment of analysing a scene, we should never skip the things that happen around the characters (Ex: Radio, TV, Pen-Pen, etc.).
9. Another psychological fact in 'Neon Genesis Evangelion': The 'Libido' and 'Destrudo' were based in the urges of create and destroy, this last one showed in Shinji's behavior during 'End of Evangelion'. Which of these 'innate drives' (postulated also by the Freudian Psychology Theory) is also depicted in Shinji's personality through the series and 'End of Evangelion'?

Answer: All of them

'Eros' is the innate drive of love (resembling Shinji's unconscious seek of approval/care by his mates, specially his father and... his mother), 'Thanatos' is the innate drive of death (taken from 'End of Evangelion', when Shinji shows no desire of saving his life from the JSSDF's soldiers) and the 'Ego' ('Myself' in Latin), which is Shinji's psychological representation involving Freud's famous human psyche models.
10. What is 'Revival of Evangelion'?

Answer: None of these

'Revival of Evangelion' is a 1998 movie released by Toei/Manga Entertainment, which is divided in two compilations: "Death(true)2" (Death: re-edition of the series's first 24 episodes, without the deleted scenes & Rebirth: the first part of 'End of Evangelion' (Episode 25: "Air")) and "Air/My Purest Heart for You" (the second part of 'End of Evangelion' (Episode 26)).

It's basically a compilation of all the movies, considered to the ultimate form of 'Neon Genesis Evangelion'.
