Consuelo Lopez was the doctor's friend, secretary and nurse. James Brolin was the other regular member of the cast. The first airing of the program was as an "ABC Movie of the Week" in the spring of 1969. The premise of the show was so popular that it was picked up as a weekly program. During the second season the show was ranked number one by Nielsen and both Young and Brolin took home Emmy Awards. Verdugo was nominated twice but did not win an Emmy.
Elena Verdugo had done film work in several movies and became a regular on a television series called "Many Happy Returns" in 1964. Her co-star was Elinor Donahue. Donahue was a regular on Young's show, "Father Knows Best". Jane Wyatt played Robert Young's wife, Margaret Anderson, on "Father Knows Best" from 1954 to 1960 and also had a guest role on an episode of "Marcus Welby MD".
Anne Baxter played Marcus Welby's girlfriend, Myra Sherwood. Janet Blake, played by Pamela Hensley, was Dr. Kiley's girlfriend. The couple married on the show during the final season.

Julie London had been a popular pin-up girl during WWII and married Jack Webb in 1947. They divorced five years later. She married musician Bobby Troup in 1959 and they eventually co-starred on "Emergency". Bobby Troup played Dr. Joe Early.
Jack Webb and Robert Cinader produced "Emergency", a spin-off of one of their other productions, "Adam-12" (1968). "Adam-12" featured characters originally introduced on Jack Webb's "Dragnet" (1951) series.
Julie appeared in over 20 films and recorded over 30 albums in her career. She is remembered for her rendition of "Cry Me A River". The recording was produced by Bobby Troup.
Most of Julie Andrews' television appearances have been on musical programs. Julie Newmar's most notable role was as Catwoman in the Batman television series between 1964 and 1966. Julie Christie has been in many movies such as "Doctor Zhivago" (1965) but has not had a regular role on a US television program.

After performing in theater she began making guest appearances on such television shows as "Mission: Impossible", "Hawaii Five-O", "Gunsmoke" and "Mannix" until she was cast in M*A*S*H. In 1989 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Odessa Cleveland played Lt. Ginger Bayliss in 25 episodes. Jo Ann Thompson had the role of Nurse Jo Ann in 11 episodes and Sheila Lauritsen played Nurse Sheila in 8 episodes.

"Doctor's Hospital" aired in 1975 for one season on NBC. "A.E.S. Hudson Street" was aired in 1978 on ABC. Nurse Rosa Santiago, Nurse Rhonda Todd and Nurse Newton were three characters on the comedy about a poorly equipped New York City hospital.
"Temperatures Rising" ran from 1972 to 74. Despite featuring Cleavon Little, Paul Lynde, James Whitmore and Joan Van Ark the series managed to air for only two seasons before being pulled from the schedule because of poor ratings.
