Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Set in the 50s, this show gave us the ideal 'all American family'. What little tension offered up by the show came from the mild disobediences of the youngest son in the family, who was always brought back firmly, but lovingly, to hand by his doting parents and older brother. What show spawned the expressions "He's an Eddie Haskell"?

Answer: Leave it to Beaver

"Leave it to Beaver" ran for six seasons from 1957 to 1963. Family life at its ideal was portrayed by the loving Cleaver family, starring Jerry Mathers, Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Beaumont and Tony Dow. Neighborhood teenager, Eddie Haskell, could always be counted on to produce the most insincere compliments before showing his true nature and doing something decidedly not nice!
2. This gritty police show offered us a weekly glance into the trials and tribulations of a New York policeman's life. The show initially focused on partners Kelley and Sipowicz, and then on Kelley's replacement, Simone. Which bum-baring show was this?

Answer: NYPD Blue

Cashing in on the successful format of "Hill Street Blues", Steven Bochco offered us "NYPD Blue", which ran for an amazing 12 seasons, from 1993 to 2005. Partners Andy Sipowicz (played by Dennis Franz) and John Kelley (played by David Caruso) were the central, unifying characters for the first two seasons, at which point Kelley was replaced by Bobby Simone (played by Jimmy Smits).
3. This comedy was unlike any that had gone before. Short vignettes and one liners, kept up at an almost frenetic pace, never gave the viewer a chance to stop laughing. What show invited the viewer to "sock-it-to-me"?

Answer: Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In

"Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" ran for six seasons, from 1968 to 1973. Hosts Dan Rowan and Dick Martin were the thread that held the show, with it's brief skits and recurring jokes together. Regulars Goldie Hawn, Ruth Martin, Gary Owens, Ruth Buzzi, Henry Gibson, Arte Johnson, Judy Carne and Jo Anne Worley were joined by some of Hollywood's finest talent, including the Duke, John Wayne.
4. This four-man group of Army Commandos did their best to disrupt Rommel's North African Offensive during WWII. In which show was this group, comprised of three American soldiers and a British one, successful more often than not?

Answer: The Rat Patrol

"The Rat Patrol" ran for two seasons, from 1966 to 1968. It starred Christopher George, Gary Raymond, Justin Tarr and Lawrence Casey as the four men attached to the Long Range Desert Group. Eric Braeden played Hauptmann Hans Dietrich, the man who spent a great deal of time trying to foil their plans.
5. This weekly variety show was run by a talented group of puppets, who also welcomed human actors to guest star on their show. Which show boasted a frog for a host?

Answer: The Muppet Show

Conceived by the creative genius of Jim Henson, "The Muppet Show" ran for five years, between 1976 to 1981. Each week Kermit the Frog struggled to get his show on the air while balancing the eccentricities of his Muppet regulars with the talents of his guest stars. This was one of the few shows that my family all agreed on.
6. This show focused on the day to day shifts of two, regular patrol cops. Each show was presented as one regular shift and the situations that they dealt with on the show were ones that they would encounter while on patrol. Which realistic cop show was this?

Answer: Adam-12

"Adam-12" ran for seven seasons between 1968 and 1975, and starred Martin Milner and Kent McCord as LAPD Officers Malloy and Reed, respectively. The show was noted for its almost documentary approach to police work, even though it was fictional. A less successful reprisal of the series ran for one season in 1990.
7. This show offered us a peek into the lives of three friends and one of their mothers, all single women who had been previously married, all living together for financial and emotional support. What show gave us such a beautiful example of female friendship, with all its beautiful moments as well as its warts?

Answer: The Golden Girls

"The Golden Girls" ran for seven seasons, from 1985 to 1992. Beatrice Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White played the three friends who nursed each other through their attempts to get by in the world, and maybe even find a suitable mate. Estelle Getty played Arthur's mother, and her little bits of wisdom added an interesting slant to most of the situations that the other women found themselves in.
8. This strange comedy focused on the day to day lives of a rather unique family, who didn't seem to realize that they were actually monsters. They went about their lives, not recognizing the fact that the rest of the world regarded them with shock. Which show was this, where the family always expressed sympathy for their pretty, normal-looking niece?

Answer: The Munsters

"The Munsters" only ran for two seasons, between 1964 and 1966. Fred Gwynne starred as the patriarch of the family, who bore a striking resemblance to Frankenstein. Yvonne De Carlo played the wife, who resembled a campy looking vampire. Grandpa, played by Al Lewis, also resembled a vampire, although I distinctly recall one episode where he changed into a wolf and was draped around his daughter's shoulders as a stole, in order to board a ship, I believe.

The son Eddie, played by Butch Patrick, looked like a wolf-like child.

The niece was played by Pat Priest and Beverley Owen.
9. This weekly drama concerned itself with the daily workings of a large, Los Angeles law firm. Which show was this, that often liked to throw bizarre plot and character twists at the viewers?

Answer: L.A. Law

"L.A. Law" ran for eight seasons, from 1986 to 1994. The show dealt with both the private and professional lives of the firm's staff, both in and out of court. The morality of practicing law and providing a defense to some less than savory clients was also sometimes touched upon, as were other hot topics of the time, such as women's rights.
10. This show offered up the adventures of British Intelligence agent and his beautiful partner. In which show did we find the polished, debonair and ever so sophisticated John Steed?

Answer: The Avengers

"The Avengers" ran for seven seasons, from 1961 to 1969. Patrick Macnee played Steed, who was usually partnered with a beautiful woman, one of them played by Diana Rigg. The situations Steed had to deal with, or diffuse often fell just short of being classified as science fiction in nature. A 1998 move starred Ralph Fiennes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Emma Peel.
