Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Observers are a group of people with mysterious abilities and secret intentions, who follow an unusual pattern in their names. What were some of the names they have used?

Answer: August, September and December

The Observers have an unusual appearance, since they are all bald and have no eyebrows. They have appeared as spectators on many important events throughout history and they are able to read someone's thoughts. The Observers usually act in a calm and detached manner, as though they have no emotions.

There have been incidents which suggest they are capable of emotions, such as when the Observer called August claimed he loved a woman.
2. Some of the "Fringe" episodes break away from the normal episode format. Second season's "Brown Betty" was an episode unlike any other in "Fringe". What was so unique about it?

Answer: It was a musical episode set in a film noir atmosphere

In the events before "Brown Betty", Peter had found out that he is from the alternate universe. Unable to forgive Walter for lying to him, Peter left Boston. In "Brown Betty", Olivia's niece Ella visited Walter's lab. In order to entertain her, Walter made up a story with the characters of "Fringe", that took place in a film noir setting.
3. Third season's "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" was another unique "Fringe" episode. What was the feature that made it stand out?

Answer: The characters appeared as cartoons for a big part of the episode

In "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide", Peter and Walter went into Olivia's mind after her conscious self disappeared (which is as confusing as it sounds!). There, they met a cartoon version of William Bell (voiced by Leonard Nimoy) and turned into cartoons themselves, while looking for Olivia.

"Fringe" had a couple of flashback episodes, but "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" wasn't one of them.
4. Fourth season's "Letters of Transit" strayed from the normal format by being set in a different time and world. When, and in what world, did the events of "Letters of Transit" take place?

Answer: In the year 2036, with the world ruled by the Observers

When it originally aired, "Letters of Transit" appeared to be completely out of place, but it soon became clear that it served as a preview of the fifth season, during which the Fringe Team try to overthrow the Observers. In "Letters of Transit", Henrietta Bishop tried to find the members of the original Fringe Team and free them from the amber.

At the end of the episode she freed Peter, who recognized her as his and Olivia's daughter.
5. "Brown Betty", "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" and "Letters of Transit", apart from their unique formats, have one more thing in common: They are the preantepenultimate (fourth to last) episodes of their respective seasons.

Answer: True

"Brown Betty" is the 20th out of 23 episodes in season two. "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" and "Letters of Transit" are the 19th out of 22 episodes, in seasons three and four respectively.
6. After the Fringe Team discovered the existence of an alternate universe similar to ours, they also found out that the alternate versions of themselves differ in some ways. Apart from hair color, what is Alternate Olivia's biggest difference to the one from our universe?

Answer: Alternate Olivia is more social, open and playful

The difference between the two Olivias is obvious from the very first episode that Alternate Olivia appeared in. Alternate Olivia is also more deceptive. These differences are attributed to the Cortexiphan trials, which made the Olivia from our universe very reserved.

Other characters differ from their alternate versions in different ways. Broyles and Alternate Broyles have almost identical personalities, but Alternate Broyles is married and has a son, while our Broyles is divorced.
7. Walter's personality and appearance was similar to that of Alternate Walter (aka Walternate). Walternate, however, had a different job. What was that?

Answer: Secretary of Defense of the United States

When our Walter crossed over to the alternate universe and took Peter (Walternate's son), the portal he opened damaged the alternate universe, initiating a series of bizarre events. Having lost his son and seeing his world being damaged, Walternate developed the substance called amber to stop the rifts that occurred in his universe.

When the existence of alternate universes was confirmed at the end of season two, Walternate started a campaign to infiltrate our universe.
8. Apart from the differences between the alternate versions of people, the alternate universe had another major difference to ours. What was that difference?

Answer: Its technology was more advanced

The alternate universe appeared to have several other differences. For example, over there coffee is a rare and expensive commodity. Another big difference is that the alternate Fringe Team were considered heroes, while the Fringe Team in our universe had to operate in secret.
9. The opening title sequence for each episode features a specific motif and mentions several Fringe Sciences and scientific concepts related to the timeline and world of the episode. Which season two episode was the first to feature a red motif dedicated to the alternate universe, instead of the classic blue?

Answer: Over There

"Over There" was the season two finale and was split into two parts. The first part was the very first episode to feature the red motif. The sciences and concepts mentioned were mostly the same as those in the blue motif. The only exception is 'Parallel Universes', which was replaced with 'First People'.
10. All but one of the opening title sequences have been featured in more than one "Fringe" episode. Which season finale episode, that partly took place in 2026, had a unique gray motif and mentioned futuristic topics such as 'Thought Extraction' and 'Brain Porting'?

Answer: The Day We Died

"The Day We Died" was the season three finale. Among other sciences and concepts mentioned in its unique motif are 'Chaos Structure', 'Dual Maternity', 'Water' and 'Hope'.

All the other options are episodes which introduced a new motif. "Over There" had the red motif, while "Neither Here Nor There" had an amber motif with concepts like 'Existence', 'Time Paradox' and 'Psychogenesis'. "Peter" is a season two flashback episode whose opening sequence has a 1980s motif and 8-bit music, and topics like 'Personal Computing', 'Nanotechnology' and 'Genetic Engineering'.
