Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race, teams headed to the UK to visit their first Route Marker waiting at what landmark?

Answer: Stonehenge

In the first leg of the race, teams departed from the Starting Line at the Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester, Massachusetts and took a flight to London, England on their way to Stonehenge, the historic monument in Amesbury. This was the first notable landmark seen on the race and the third time teams had visited the UK in the history of the race (after "The Amazing Race 3" and "7"). Following this, teams completed a Road Block and checked in at the first Pit Stop at Eastnor Castle and Claire (of Brook and Claire) slingshot a watermelon into her own face.

It was a memorable moment.
2. Visiting Ghana in Legs 2 and 3, teams visited Makola Market for a Road Block which involved selling which of these to the locals?

Answer: Sunglasses

Teams flew from London to the African nation of Ghana in Leg 2 to complete several task involving local customs in Accra. After a Road Block task in which team members sold sunglasses to locals, they had to complete a Detour in the city slums, transporting coffins or setting up TV antennas.

The second leg in Ghana took teams to the rural areas of the country to renovate a school and participate in children's games. While Andie and Jenna were eliminated in Leg 2, Leg 3 was the first non-elimination leg of the race (in a rare early occurrence).
3. The Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden was home to which of the following tasks in Leg 4?

Answer: Speed Bump

In Leg 4, teams needed to leave the sweltering heat of Ghana and head northward to the far-north of Lapland, specifically Kiruna, Sweden. Upon touching down, teams headed to the famous Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi where Michael and Kevin, having placed last in the previous leg, needed to complete a Speed Bump task in which they sat on ice chairs for fifteen minutes. Since they booked a quicker flight they were not at a large risk. Teams also had the chance to get pulled by sled dogs, go sledding, and build a goahti. Connor and Jonathan were eliminated in this leg.
4. In Leg 5, teams visited the Skjomen Bridge for a Road Block task. Where is this bridge?

Answer: Norway

After leaving the Leg 4 Pit Stop in Riksgränsen, Sweden, teams immediately crossed the border and headed to Narvik, Norway to complete Leg 5. During this leg, Nat and Kat won the only Fast Forward of the race by eating a boiled sheep head while the other racers stopped at Skjomen Bridge to complete a Road Block. For this task, one member of each team had to rappel off the bridge to the water below.

After riding either bikes or boats, the teams checked into the Pit Stop in Narvik and Katie and Rachel went home.
5. At Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg, Russia (in Leg 7), teams had to play what Russian game?

Answer: Gorodki

Throughout Legs 6 and 7, teams raced through the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia completing clues related to city history, unique attractions, and rural life with babushkas. While much of the first of these legs involved Russian culture from film to farming, the second leg look teams on a literal tour of several city landmarks, occasionally on foot and almost always with specific guidelines.

While Nick and Vicki placed last in Leg 6 (and were spared), Michael and Kevin made too many mistakes in Leg 7 and, after playing a game of Gorodki outside Peter and Paul Fortress, they checked into the Pit Stop and awaited several penalties.

They were eliminated as a result.
6. In Leg 8, the six remaining teams headed to Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in what Middle Eastern nation?

Answer: Oman

After leaving Russia, teams were told to fly themselves out to Muscat, Oman, a sunny city in the Middle East, to find a giant incense burner featuring their next clue. Here, quite memorably, Chad proposed to Stephanie. They would later win this leg of the race. During this leg, during the Road Block specifically, team members rappelled down the side of Oman's tallest peak, Jebel Shams. Additionally they visited ancient markets, delivered water to thirsty homes, and checked in at the Pit Stop in front of the Sulatan's ceremonial Al Alam Palace. Gary and Mallory were last to arrive by minutes; they later returned for "The Amazing Race 18: Unfinished Business".
7. Checking into the Pit Stop in front of Lalbagh Fort in Leg 9, which team was eliminated?

Answer: Chad and Stephanie

In a heated leg through the highly-populated city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, teams had flight troubles and were split up several times over the course of the day. Jill and Thomas coasted into a victory with an early flight while the last three teams battled it out.

The race's first-ever Double U-Turn proved a formidable foe when both Brook and Claire and Chad and Stephanie needed to do both Detour tasks in Dhaka Harbor. What followed was essentially a footrace to Lalbagh Fort where Chad and Stephanie were eliminated (despite leading at the start of the leg), mainly because of their non-aggressive approach to getting a flight out of Muscat.
8. Leaving Bangladesh, teams headed to Kowloon, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Central Square in what major financial hub in Leg 10?

Answer: Hong Kong

The final four teams, all on an even playing field flying from Dhaka to Hong Kong in Leg 10, made their way to Cheung Po Tsai Cave before a particularly noteworthy Road Block in which one member of each team had to find a piece of fake sushi amongst a buffet.

After visiting the statue of Bruce Lee on the Avenue of the Stars, the teams could either hop into a junk in Hong Kong's harbor or ride the city trams searching for the name of their next Pit Stop on three of thousands of neon signs. This was ultimately a non-elimination leg though Nick and Vicki opted not to finish the Detour, taking a six hour time penalty.
9. Visiting South Korea in the penultimate leg of the race, the teams were given the option of delivering ginseng tonics or visiting Mokdong Stadium to participate in what sporting event?

Answer: Speed skating

The final four flew to Seoul, South Korea in Leg 12 and were told to make their way within miles of the demilitarized zone to go whitewater rafting in Cheorwon, adjacent to the North Korean border. After a stop-off at the American military base Camp Casey, teams returned to Seoul to complete their Detour task and ultimately check in at the last Pit Stop of the race. Three of the teams completed the 'Full Throttle' Detour option, requiring that they go speed skating for a number of laps in Mokdong Stadium. Nick and Vicki, too far behind because of their penalty, made it to Camp Casey for a Speed Bump before they were sent directly to the Pit Stop for elimination.
10. In the final leg of the race, the final three teams visited what California sporting venue for a final Road Block task?

Answer: Rose Bowl

In the final leg of the race, the final three teams departed from the Temple of Heaven in Seoul, South Korea and raced to Los Angeles, their final destination city. After an adrenaline-fueled swing in the Port of Long Beach and a helicopter ride over L.A., the teams had to choose one member to decorate a Rose Bowl parade float.

After a few tasks involving puzzles and the teams' memories of the race, Nat and Kat were the first team to cross the Finish Line in front of Beverly Hills' Greystone Mansion, ultimately becoming the first all-female team to win the U.S. version of the show (after seventeen seasons).
