Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the very beginning of the fourth "Amazing Race", teams departed from the starting line at which U.S. stadium?

Answer: Dodger Stadium

Leg 1 of the race commenced with twelve teams making their way out of Dodger Stadium shortly after retrieving their clues from atop their backpacks. For this first leg of the race, the teams needed to fly to Milan, Italy from LAX International in Los Angeles.

This was the first time on the show that teams commenced the race in California; the race ended there during the second season, in San Francisco. Los Angeles' Santa Monica Pier was used as the starting line in the fifth season, for example.
2. At the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy, teams located which type of clue (in Leg 2)?

Answer: Fast Forward

Heading out from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy in the opening of Leg 2, teams needed to take a train to the sinking city of Venice, Italy to complete a series of tasks. The first was the Ponte delle Guglie at which point teams located their Detour task and a Fast Forward option (which was completed by Steve and Dave).

This Detour required that teams either take a gondola through the canals (for 'Waterway') or via the intricate passages (for 'Pathway') to find a single cluebox somewhere in Venice. At Rialto Bridge, the Fast Forward involved joining in a Venetian skit.
3. In Leg 3, teams visited Schönbrunn Palace, a landmark in which European city?

Answer: Vienna

Departing from Italy, teams needed to make their way by train to Vienna, the capital city of Austria, to continue on in the race. The tasks in this city ranged from delivery tasks for the Detour to high-altitude jumps from the Donauturm for the Road Block.

At one point, teams needed to ride horse-drawn carriages known as fiacres through the city to Schönbrunn Palace to collect their Detour. This was also the site of the Fast Forward (won by Steve and Josh) which involved carrying champagne glasses through a crowded ballroom.
4. In France in Leg 4, teams completed a Road Block in Le Mans involving which of these?

Answer: Race cars

Arriving in France in Leg 4, teams needed to drive through the country to the Circuit Bugatti, a well-known race track in Le Mans. Here, one member of each team needed to replace the tires on a race car and then take a lap around the course to receive their next clue.

Although many of the teams completed this task quickly, they were all bunched up in Marseilles that night waiting to access the next clue near the sea.
5. The Gateway of India in New Delhi was the sixth Pit Stop in this race around the world.

Answer: False

While teams certainly progressed to India in Leg 6 of the race, the Gateway of India is actually found in Mumbai, not New Delhi as this question suggests. Finishing a fishy Road Block task at the Sassoon Docks, teams needed to race by taxi and then on foot to the sixth Pit Stop, the Gateway of India.

Here, Monica and Sheree became the sixth team eliminated from the race because they were unable to keep up with the rest of the teams in the confusing streets and transit systems of this Indian metropolis. Because teams arrived in midday, teams departed from the Gateway of India in the middle of the night.
6. In Leg 9, teams checked in at the Pit Stop at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in what Asian nation?

Answer: Malaysia

In Leg 8, teams needed to fly to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia where they raced for two legs. In the end of Leg 9, teams needed to race from a heights-related Road Block in the Gomantong Caves to the Pit Stop at the Sepilok Nature Resort and here, Millie and Chuck were the penultimate team ejected from the race (placing fifth overall).

This was also the site of the Fast Forward where Chip and Reichen needed to feed orangutans before checking in. Kelly and Jon evaded elimination by visiting the Fast Forward earlier and knowing the route as a result.

They beat Millie and Chuck to the mat by mere minutes.
7. Visiting Seoul, South Korea in Leg 10, teams needed to find a clue at which tower depicted?

Answer: Namsan Tower

Leaving Malaysia in Leg 10, teams needed to fly northward to Seoul, South Korea to locate their next clue at the base of Namsan Tower in Namsan Park. This task alone proved difficult for teams due to challenging language barriers which plagued certain pairs throughout the entire leg. Following this task, the culture shock further complicated matters; teams accidentally crossed the demilitarized zone on the way to the Road Block, had to eat live octopus during the Detour, and struggled to locate a busy subway station hidden in the city.
8. Which team received a time penalty upon checking into the Yacht Club Pit Stop in Mooloolaba, Australia (in Leg 11)?

Answer: Reichen and Chip

Heading to the Land of Oz in Leg 11, teams needed to visit the Sunshine Coast for a series of adrenalin-pumping tasks including a face-first rappel down the Holiday Inn in Brisbane and swimming with the sharks at Underwater World in Mooloolaba. In the end of this leg, Reichen and Chip misread a clue instructing them to race on foot to the Pit Stop. Though they placed second, their thirty-five minute penalty dropped them to third. Jon and Al, who had a two hour delay leaving Seoul, were unable to make up the time necessary to bring them to the final three.
9. In Leg 12, teams visited Palm Cove, Wangetti Beach, and Ellis Beach, all locations near which Australian city?

Answer: Cairns

Continuing through Australia in Leg 12, the final three headed northward to Cairns, Queensland to complete the tasks which would set them up for the thirteenth and final legs of the race. These tasks included riding horses on the beach (for the 'Saddle' Detour option), feeding a crocodile at Wild World, and riding a dune buggy through a course for the Road Block in Julatten's Off Road Rush. Teams checked in at the final Pit Stop on Ellis Beach and prepared for the final sprint home.
10. During Leg 13, the final major task of the race took place at which U.S. stadium near Phoenix, Arizona?

Answer: Sun Devil Stadium

In the final leg of the race, teams left Australia to head to Hawaii and then onward to their final destination city, Phoenix, Arizona. After stopping at the USS Arizona Memorial, teams ventured to Sun Devil Stadium (recalling their starting line at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles) to complete a brain teaser sending them to a specific seat to find their last clue.

This required that they head to Papago Park and ride bikes to the finish line. Reichen and Chip finished first to win the million with Kelly and Jon close behind while David and Jeff heard the news in Hawaii, several hours behind due to poor flights.
