Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of this sixth "Amazing Race", teams reached their very first Pit Stop at the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa in what country?

Answer: Iceland

Beginning the race in Chicago's downtown core, eleven teams made their way across the North Atlantic to Iceland, visiting many of the natural wonders which make the country a spectacularly, beautiful place. Aside from the Blue Lagoon, teams visited Seljalandsfoss, the snows of Vatnajökull for an overnight rest, the black sands of Glacier Ice Beach at Jökulsárlón, and (depending on a Detour choice) they stopped off for some ice climbing. The first Pit Stop was at the Blue Lagoon, a world-famous geothermal spa. Hayden and Aaron became the first victors of the race, taking home a trip to Hawaii from American Airlines.

In the end, a close race between father-daughter team Gus and Hera and best friends Avi and Joe ended with the latter being the first eliminated team.
2. In the second leg of the race, teams traveled to Norway. What kind of task did they complete at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump?

Answer: Road Block

Heading out from Iceland, teams continued to explore Northern Europe, stopping off in Oslo and then traveling to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump to complete their first Road Block task. For this one, one member of each team needed to ascend the staircase of the jump and then ride a zipline to the bottom. Kristy, Jon, Bolo, Adam, Hera, Kendra, Jonathan, Don, Aaron, and Maria took the plunge to complete the task and meet up at the Rock Viking Village.

After an overnight stay, they were able to proceed to their next clue by working together and paddling a viking longboat.
3. Visiting Sweden in Leg 3, teams completed a Detour task in what world-famous Swedish department store?

Answer: IKEA

After a leg of the race in Oslo, teams took a train and a bus to Stockholm, Sweden where they stopped off at an ice bar and waited outside the world's largest IKEA store in Kungens Kurva. Here, teams chose between 'Count It' and 'Build It' in their Detour. For 'Count It', teams needed to count a total of small stuffed animals, pots, and pans to get a proper amount. For 'Build It', the other teams needed to construct a desk unit to the proper specifications. 'Count It' took much longer, setting teams back a great deal. Following this, teams headed to the countryside for one of the most famous, grueling Road Blocks of all time-- they needed to unroll hay bales to find one of twenty (of two hundred seventy) containing clues. Lena and Kristy didn't complete the task-- they were eliminated at the Road Block hours after the other teams checked in at the Pit Stop.

This Road Block was revisited as a Switchback in "The Amazing Race 15".
4. Heading to Senegal in the fourth leg of the race, teams completed a task at Lac Rose, a lake coloured pink. What did they need to pull from the lake in the Road Block?

Answer: Salt

Visiting Senegal, teams stopped off at the grave of Léopold Sédar Senghor in Bel Aire Cemetery and the fishing village of Kayar before finding a Road Block in the salt mounds surrounding Lac Rose. For this task, one member of each team needed to head out to the lake with a basket and use it to fill a larger basket onshore with salt taken from the bottom.

This task proved physically-demanding and, in the case of their eyes, painful. After this task was complete, they needed to take a ferry to the former slave island, Goree Island, where the first of several non-elimination Pit Stops could be found.
5. Arriving at the Brandenburg Gate in Leg 5, which notorious team had an emotional outburst and near-physical altercation when they placed second?

Answer: Jonathan and Victoria

While Adam and Rebecca had been having their own spats throughout the race (due to Adam's lack of maturity), it was the volatile Jonathan who fought with Victoria on their way to the Pit Stop. Freddy and Kendra stepped on the mat in first place, winning a trip to Mexico from American Airlines (and taking their first first place). Behind them, Jonathan tried to drop his bag behind to make him move faster.

When Victoria tried to pick it up and carry it, he scolded her, causing her to cry. Arriving at the Pit Stop, he attempted to push her away.

This, of course, was neither the beginning nor the end for the team-- their vitriol continued for several legs. Here in Berlin, teams also visited Checkpoint Charlie and the Olympic Stadium.
6. In the second half of the double-length Leg 6, Lori and Bolo claimed the Fast Forward at Buda Castle by drinking what?

Answer: Blood

Teams headed into Budapest, Hungary for a double-length leg of the race and, in the second half, Lori and Bolo fought to regain a lead by claiming the first of two Fast Forwards in the race. To do this, they descended into the cavernous hallways of Buda Castle and met with a vampire enthusiast to drink one goblet of pig's blood each.

They completed the task and headed to Fisherman's Bastion, their Pit Stop, in first place. The other teams needed to complete the entire leg-- some needed to paddle across the Danube, others played water polo, and for the Road Block, half of them ate a very spicy fisherman's soup at Gundel Restaurant.
7. In Leg 8, teams returned to Africa, stopping at St. George Church in Lalibela for a Road Block. This was in which country?

Answer: Ethiopia

Teams certainly took a trip in Leg 8...from Corsica to Nice, France to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Lalibela, Ethiopia. Upon their arrival they made their way to a number of villages to complete a Detour (in which they placed a roof on a hut or mudded a wall) and to St. George Church, partially built underground, where they needed to complete a Road Block task. During this leg, Adam and Rebecca yielded Freddy and Kendra but failed to stay ahead of them on the way to the Pit Stop.

It couldn't save Jonathan and Victoria (still arguing) from failing to transport two donkeys between tasks.

They headed back to complete the task properly but found themselves eliminated.
8. Stopping off in Sri Lanka in Leg 9, a game-changing Road Block was held at which natural landmark?

Answer: Lion Rock

Heading from Ethiopia to Colombo, Sri Lanka in Leg 9, teams took several different modes of transportation and stayed a few nights on this island, completing a series of unique tasks revolving around local customs. Arriving at Lion Rock in the end of the leg in Sigiriya, teams found a Road Block asking them to take a ticket and head up to the top of Lion Rock to spot their next Pit Stop (at the Hotel Sigiriya) from the top. Once at the Pit Stop they had to swim across the pool to check in. Lori and Bolo arrived in last due to a game-changing lapse of judgment. Lori forgot the ticket with her clue (partially Bolo's fault) and had to walk back to the bottom to retrieve it.

This cost them the race.
9. In the penultimate leg of the race (in China), teams faced off against one of the most stressful Road Blocks yet. What 'simple' task did they need to complete at Mount Hua?

Answer: Unlock a lock

After traveling through the roads and confusing countryside of Xi'an, China, teams stopped off at the Terracotta Warriors Museum and then took a lift to the top of Mount Hua to find their Road Block task, the second-to-last one of the entire race, and all of the girls needed to show a little luck to complete it.

There, on the top of the mountain, they needed to take a key enclosed in their clue and unlock a matching lock, one of over three thousand, to receive the clue sending them back to the Xi'an City Wall (by bus). If their key broke (which Hayden's did) they would need to climb down to get another. Hayden quit the task after Rebecca found hers in the last moments.

She and Aaron were eliminated in fourth place, but not before he could propose to her at the Pit Stop.
10. In the final leg of the race, teams headed to Hawaii and then back to the starting city, Chicago. What building, depicted, survived the Great Chicago Fire and featured a clue?

Answer: Chicago Water Tower

Heading back to the mainland after a series of tasks (some casual, some frightening) in Honolulu, Hawaii, Freddy and Kendra, Kris and Jon, and Adam and Rebecca made their way to Chicago's Water Tower, one of the few buildings to remain standing after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Following this, they needed to eat a deep-dish pizza from Gino's East and then take a taxi to Ping Tom Memorial Park, the finish line.

Here, Freddy and Kendra beat Kris and Jon in a footrace to win the million dollar prize, becoming the winners of the sixth "Amazing Race".
