Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the pilot episode "Genesis", we meet Sam's best friend, Al, in hologram form. What is Al's full first name?

Answer: Albert

Albert "Al" Calavicci is an Admiral who has been married 5 times. Being a hologram, he can only help the main character, Sam, by talking to him and showing him things (including how to fly a plane!). Al's habit of walking through objects disturbs Sam on several occasions in season 1.
2. In the second part of "Genesis", Sam leaps into a baseball player. He achieves his goal in this episode by hitting a winning home run.

Answer: False

In fact, Sam strikes out, but when the catcher drops the ball, he is able to run to first on a passed ball. He then gets all the way to home base after a number of errors from the various basemen. He also makes an emotional phone call to his real father in this episode after realising he is still alive.
3. In the episode "Star-Crossed", Sam leaps into a university professor to save a troubled relationship. But he also attempts to change his own life by doing what?

Answer: Reuniting his future fiancee with her father

Sam becomes Gerald Bryant, a university professor who is in a relationship with a student. In the original timeline, his student marries the teacher and it ends very badly. But Sam manages not only to convince her to marry her true sweetheart, but also to reunite Donna (his future fiancee) in an attempt to stop her from abandoning Sam at the altar.
4. In "The Right Hand of God", Sam becomes a boxer who is being paid to deliberately lose fights. What incentive does Sam have to train to win the big championship?

Answer: The nuns need a new chapel

Sam not only wins the fight, but he pays off the people who are asking him to lose by betting big on the Ali-Foreman fight (which he knows the result of, having lived through it). The nuns get their new chapel and Sam leaps again.
5. In "How the Tess Was Won", Sam helps a young singer write a famous song. Which singer is this?

Answer: Buddy Holly

A young Buddy Holly is singing about "Piggy Suey". Sam, who is a Texan vet, suggests he change the lyrics to "Peggy Sue". This is one of the first (of many) times the show claims Sam has an impact on famous events.
6. In the first part of the episode "Double Identity", Sam is a handsome young mafia hitman called Frankie. He upsets the mob by doing what in this episode?

Answer: Getting his hair cut in a women's salon

Sam's identity in this episode, Frankie, also speaks fluent Italian. This causes Sam some problems until Al comes to the rescue by translating.
7. In the second part of the episode "Double Identity" Sam leaps into whose body?

Answer: The mob boss

In an attempt to bring Sam back home, the Quantum Leap project unintentionally puts him into the body of the mob boss, Geno. He uses this to his advantage by forgiving Frankie and allowing him to marry his girlfriend.
8. In "The Color of Truth", what does Sam do at the start of the episode that has the town in an uproar?

Answer: Sits down in a white diner

Sam leaps into Jessie Tyler, a black chauffeur in Alabama in 1955. He doesn't realise he is black until he's already sat down. Later in the episode he also drinks from a white fountain. He does manage to make an impression on his white employer by convincing her to see things a bit differently, while also achieving his goal of saving her life.
9. In "Camikazi Kid", Sam becomes a high-school student and stops his sister from getting married to the wrong guy.

Answer: True

Sam is Cam Wilson. The experience is close to home for Sam, who realises during the experience that he has a sister who also had an abusive marriage. Sam wins a car race using modern technology (nitrous oxide for extra acceleration) and in doing so, gets the abusive fiance to display his true nature.
10. In the final episode of season 1, "Play It Again, Seymour", Sam has several experiences where he knows what's about to happen. How is this possible?

Answer: Someone wrote a book about it

Sam leaps into private investigator Nick Allen, who happens to look a lot like Humphrey Bogart, which simply adds to his confusion and annoyance when strangers think they recognise him. Sam read the 'true crime' book and remembered certain events before they happened to him.
