Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the only five-episode story arc in the "Transformers" series?

Answer: "The Five Faces of Darkness"

The post-movie episodes began with the five-part arc, "The Five Faces of Darkness", which vastly expanded the limited role played by the Quintessons in the movie. The other three were three-part stories.
2. There were several groups of Transformers who were drawn identically, except for having different colors. Among other things, this helped make the toy line more lucrative, since fewer molds had to be created. Which of these characters was not a palette-swap of the other three?

Answer: Ramjet

Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker were the first palette-swap set that we saw. They also frequently confused children when the colorists made mistakes. Other such sets included Rumble/Frenzy, Ramjet/Thrust/Dirge, and Rewind/Eject.
3. What was the last name of the Autobots' human friends Spike and Sparkplug?

Answer: Witwicky

Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky were the Autobots' closest human friends during the first two seasons. Spike Spiegel was the main character in the anime "Cowboy Bebop". Spike Dudley was a professional wrestler. The "Heathcliff" comic strip featured a bully named Muggsy Faber, who had a bulldog named Spike.
4. "Transformers: The Movie" made history by introducing Arcee, the first female Autobot.

Answer: False

Arcee certainly debuted in the movie, and she was the first female Autobot to be a recurring character. However, several other females had been shown earlier, in "The Search for Alpha Trion". Specifically, they were Firestar, Moonracer, Chromia, and Elita-1.
5. Megatron, though possessed by a powerful weapon in robot mode, could transform into an even more powerful gun. Usually when he did this, another Transformer would be responsible for firing him. Often that individual was a trusted underling like Soundwave. Other times, it was a more questionable choice. Which of the following characters never fired Megatron?

Answer: Cliffjumper

The ever-treasonous Starscream wielded Megatron in several episodes; "Traitor" is one episode which appropriately comes to mind. Optimus Prime worked with Megatron to get rid of Dr. Arkeville's exponential generator before it exploded in "Countdown to Extinction". Even Spike got into the act, using (and being used by) Megatron in "Autobot Spike". Only little Cliffjumper was left out.
6. Which was not one of the original Dinobots?

Answer: Snarl

The first three Dinobots were Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge, who were constructed in "S.O.S. Dinobots". Snarl and Swoop were built later in "War of the Dinobots".
7. Which character never acted as the overall leader of the Autobots?

Answer: Wheeljack

Ironhide, normally second-in-command, took over as interim leader in "A Prime Problem" when the Autobots had no way of knowing which Optimus Prime was real. Ultra Magnus briefly received the Matrix of Leadership in the movie, before Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime.

In the episode "Forever Is a Long Time Coming", we learn that Alpha Trion (as A-3) had been the leader in ancient times. Wheeljack, for all his inventive genius, never held the highest command.
8. What was the name of the titular character in "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide"?

Answer: Astoria Carlton-Ritz

Astoria Carlton-Ritz was a wealthy, spoiled heiress who was perhaps best known for her ability to cause machines to malfunction. Despite this, she was the Chairman of the Board of Hybrid Technologies, or "Hy-Tech" for short.
9. One of the hallmarks of the "Transformers" cartoon was the so-called gestalt teams: groups of robots who could combine into a single entity. Two such entities can make a valid claim for being the first gestalt Transformer. One is Devastator. Who is the other?

Answer: Reflector

Reflector was a Decepticon, whose three robot bodies would transform as one into a camera. (Not exactly the most intimidating villain.) He/they first appeared in "More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1", fifteen episodes before the Constructicons and Devastator debuted in "Heavy Metal War".

However, Reflector was a single entity with an unusual transformation, rather than a group of separate Transformers who could also combine. For this reason, some fans do not consider him/them a gestalt team.
10. In "More Than Meets the Eye, Part 2", Hound showed Spike a holographic image of a human. When Spike asked who it was, what was Hound's reply?

Answer: "Nobody. He doesn't really exist."

After Spike asked to learn more about the Autobots' transformations, he was treated to a display of some of their other abilities, namely Hound's holograms and Mirage's invisibility. I have no idea what, if anything, is used for a Cybertronian wallet.
