Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Sympathy For The Devil"- What happened to our unsuccessful heroes as the gate to Hell opened up?

Answer: They were mysteriously transported onto an airplane

Castiel actually died at Carver Edlund's home in the previous episode, but we were to see him again. Actor Misha Collins did several pre-premier interviews with the crew about Castiel's return. One of these was an appearance at the summer 2009 Comic-Con.

As the brilliant white light (white light interesting) spilled forth from the gate to hell, Sam and Dean found themselves aboard an aircraft over the town below. They discussed, briefly, how that may have happened and went to Carver's home to try and find Castiel.

While there, Zachariah the archangel appeared to collect his servant Dean Winchester. Dean had time to create the blood symbol Castiel used to rid them of Zach before, and after labeling the irritant with a few colorful nicknames, he sent him packing.
2. "Sympathy For The Devil"- Carver sent a "super-fan" to deliver a message to the men. What item did she tell them they needed, which was located in a castle on a hill of 42 dogs?

Answer: the sword of Michael

Super "Supernatural" fan Becky Rosen was deeply engrossed in what appeared to be a love story between Sam and Dean of her own creation. She was, obviously, writing fan-fic based on her favorite book series by Carver "Chuck" Edlund when he called her to deliver a message to the Winchesters.

She feigned disbelief in the truth behind the stories, but when he said "Becky it's all real", she squealed "I knew it!" After she delivered her message, and touched Sam repeatedly in awe, Bobby arrived with a book on the details of archangel Michael and his sword. Michael was supposedly the baddest archangel of all time, despite Dean's observation on his resemblance to Cate Blanchett, and was the one who'd sent Lucifer to Hell in the beginning.

The castle on a hill of 42 dogs was code for John Winchester's storage locker.
3. "Sympathy For The Devil"- Dean had to give his consent in order to become the vessel for the archangel Michael.

Answer: True

The vision from Chuck Edlund was a misdirect from the powers that be, and when Sam and Dean arrived at John's storage room Zachariah was waiting for them. He told Dean he was the sword of Michael himself. He was Michael's weapon on Earth, and then broke Sam's leg to get Dean to pay attention. It wasn't long before Dean realized that he would have to consent to allow his body to become Michael's vessel. When Zach stated that this turn of events was written, as in destiny, Dean's response was "maybe, but on the other hand, eat me". Zach continued to make an extremely urgent point to Dean by offering to heal (or not) Bobby from his demon infection related knife wound. Dean said no again, so Zach gave Dean stage 4 (end stage) stomach cancer on the spot and once again Dean said no. It would take an attack on Sam, I thought, to make Dean relent. After Zach too Sam's lungs away, Dean said "just kill us". Zach said no, that he was just getting started. Then Castiel appeared, as not an angel, but as, I think, God. He carved a symbol onto the ribs of the Winchesters that hid them from all angels, including Lucifer. Then we watched at Lucifer claimed his vessel, Nick, played by Mark Pellegrino. Mark also played Jacob on "Lost".
Sarah/Lucifer: "I'm not your wife Nick. I'm an angel. My name is Lucifer."
Nick: "Sure. Naturally, um, could you do me a favor Satan and remind to quit drinking before I go to bed?" Nick had to give his consent to Lucifer as well as Dean had to for Michael. Lucifer said his crime was that he loved God too much. Nick gave his consent..
4. "Good God, Y'all"- Castiel needed a special amulet that would glow/burn brightly in the presence of God. Which man was wearing it?

Answer: Dean

The boys were at the hospital visiting Bobby. He'd been injured badly in the episode prior and was possibly never going to walk again. Castiel called on the phone to find their location, and then showed up to get the amulet. Bobby was expecting Castiel to heal him, but the angel explained his powers had been greatly depreciated since his excommunication with Heaven. Also at the hospital, Dean had an x-ray that confirmed the special markings etched onto their bones to repel demonic detection. Dean told Castiel he felt naked without his necklace, which held the amulet that detected God.
5. "Good God, Y'all"- Rufus called Ellen and Bobby to River Pass, Colorado to help rid the town of demon infestation.

Answer: True

Sam and Dean were with Bobby when the call came in, but they had to go in his place. Once in the small town, they encountered their old pal Ellen. She said that Rufus had called her as well, and she and Jo had arrived to help. They'd tried to help a small group of survivors escape when mother and daughter had become separated. Sam and Dean went back out into the town to look for Jo and Rufus, as well as collect salt and ammo. Once out there, they ran into Rufus and Jo, who appeared black eyed. To Jo and Rufus, Dean and Ellen appeared black eyed. My first thought was that a trickster was at work. I was wrong.
6. "Good God, Y'all"- Whose idea was it for Sam and Dean to part ways at the end of the episode?

Answer: Sam's

Dean figured out, based on a recent shooting star sighting, that the chaos in town was a piece of the apocalypse. The shooting star foretold the coming of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The one in town was to arrive on a red chariot and was named War. War literally had a red Ford Mustang parked in town, and Dean said if it were he, that would be the way he "rolled".

The local priest seemed shocked beyond belief that they were indeed in the middle of the actual apocalypse. War revealed himself to both Sam and Dean, and attempted to get the people in town to kill them both.

In the end, the Winchester men figured out that War was using a weird ring to control people, so they cut off his hand. Afterward, Sam admitted to Dean that he couldn't trust himself and that maybe they should part ways for a while. Dean agreed, and Sam left River Pass with someone else.
7. In episode three of this season, "Free to be You and Me", Lucifer came to Sam in the guise of who?

Answer: Jessica

Just as he had when he first needed a body, Lucifer came as a woman. The first time, he came as the dead wife to Nick, played by Mark Pellegrino. He seduced Nick verbally, playing on the pain and rage Nick felt about his wife's death. This time, he came to Sam as Jessica. Jessica died in the very first episode of the series, prompting Sam to join Dean in the search for John Winchester. Lucifer/Jessica told Sam that it was meant to be that Sam be his vessel. He/she explained that his body was the only one strong enough, just as Dean's was the only one strong enough to house Michael the archangel. Since Sam and Dean had parted ways, I am sure Lucifer wanted to take advantage of the moment.

Adrianne Palicki, maybe better known for her role as Tyra on "Friday Night Lights", reprised her role as Jessica Moore.
8. "The End"- Zachariah decided to send Dean into an alternate time frame. Which year did Dean awaken to find himself residing within?

Answer: 2014

Dean was in the year 2014 and the croatoan virus had taken over the planet. The virus, similar to a zombie virus, caused humans to become seemingly mindless monsters. He decided to find Bobby, but when he got to Bobby's place all he found was his Impala, a shell of its former glory, and an older version of himself. Dean was the leader of the resistance and Castiel was a hippie, for lack of a better term.
9. "The End"- Satan killed alternate reality Dean, with our Dean looking on.

Answer: True

Satan had taken up shop in Sam's body. Dean's abandonment of Sam had caused Sam to say yes to Satan's use of his body. After becoming Satan's vessel, Sam/Satan more or less mite down humans for the ills they'd bestowed upon the planet. Alternate Dean led a group to Satan's location, but had to knock out his younger self in order to execute his plan.

When our Dean awoke, he saw Satan/Sam decked out in an all white suit and breaking alternate Dean's neck. The devil then tried to convince 2009 Dean that no matter what changes he made, it would always turn out just like it had. Dean would end up dead at the hands of Satan in 2014. Dean did not believe him.
10. "The End"- What did Dean give to Sam at the end of the episode, after the pair had reunited to save the world?

Answer: a knife

Dean came home, via Zachariah, and still refused to become Michael's vessel. This infuriated Zac and the angel tried to attack him. He was saved at the last moment by Castiel. Dean then called Sam and the pair reunited. Dean gave Sam the demon killing knife, and the pair would go forth as a unit and search for the Colt once more.

They agreed to make their own future, and not dwell on the possibilities of being used against each other. It should be an interesting end to a compelling tale.
