Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race, teams needed to memorize a Confucian proverb from which of these?

Answer: A payphone

In the first leg of the race, at the Taipei Confucius Temple in Taiwan, teams had to choose one team member who was 'ready to play telephone'. That team member needed to locate a payphone in the table and 1-800-CONFUCIUS. On the other end of the line, someone would recite a proverb and, without taking notes, the participant needed to recite the phrase to a local monk to get their clue. Sandy, Cindy, Amani, Jennifer, Ron, Ethan, Zac, Andy, Lisa, Liz, and Cathi completed this task.

The proverb was: 'In all things, success depends on previous preparation, and without such previous preparation there is sure to be failure.'
2. In Indonesia in Leg 2, team members descended into Goa Jomblang to locate a mask and which of these ceremonial items?

Answer: A kris

Arriving at the cave at Goa Jomblang in Semanu, Indonesia (outside of Yogyakarta), team members needed to go spelunking, rappelling 160 feet downward into a cave and then searching for a ceremonial mask and kris (a dagger) to bring back to the surface. To get back to the top they needed to climb a bamboo ladder back out of the cave. Cindy, Marie, Marcus, Bill, Jeremy, Tommy, Justin, Ethan, Kaylani, Zac, and Bill completed this task.
3. In Leg 3, team members needed to count which of these during the Road Block at Borobudur Temple in Indonesia?

Answer: Statues

At Borobudur, teams encountered a fiendish Road Block in which they needed to count the quantities of four different types of statues, each depicting distinct hand positions, while traveling clockwise around the temple roof. Teams not only needed to tally the statues individually (for seventeen of three designs and eighteen of a fourth), but they had to demonstrate the hand positions to be able to head to the nearby Pit Stop.

This task was completed by Laurence, Tommy, Lisa, Marie, Bill, Ernie, Justin, Jeremy, and Marcus. Though Laurence completed the task first, a penalty incurred at the Detour dropped them to second place.
4. In Leg 4, team members needed to climb a sheer rock wall in Ao Phang Nga National Park in what nation?

Answer: Thailand

In Leg 4, teams needed to fly to Phuket, Thailand to complete a series of tasks in Ao Phang Nga National Park. Towards the end of an already physical leg of the race in the hot sun, teams needed to visit Koh Yao Noi Island. There, one member of each team had to 'be the king of the hill'. Said selected team member had to head to a sheer rock wall and attempt to climb straight up to claim their next clue from a bird's nest. Andy, Jennifer, Zac, Amani, Jeremy, Ernie, Bill, and Marie completed this one.

After the task, teams checked in at the Pit Stop on the soccer field of the floating village of Koh Panyi.
5. How many Road Blocks were completed in Leg 5 in Thailand?

Answer: Two

In a surprising turn, teams headed through rural and urban Thailand, crossing much of the country throughout Leg 5 and completing not one, but two Road Blocks along the way. The first required team members to search the local forests, searching for the sound of a woodwind instrument near a rushing river.

Then, they had to dive into the water and search for a clay koi fish, breaking it open to find their next clue. Later in the leg, the team member that didn't do the koi Road Block had to assemble a spirit house-- one that they'd collected and transported elsewhere-- from memory.
6. During Leg 6, team members completing the Road Block engaged in activities involving which Malawian export?

Answer: Tobacco

Arriving in Lilongwe, Malawi, teams were immediately driven to a tobacco warehouse in the city and faced a Road Block inside. There, team members had to wear heavy workman uniforms and use short dollies to transport ten 200lb bales of tobacco through the busy warehouse to the drop-off zone in order to continue on with the race.

This task was completed by Jeremy, Justin, Ernie, Laurence, Tommy, Bill, and Marcus who had to deal with the chaos of the warehouse, the business, the noise, and the heat.
7. The Road Block task in Leg 9 (in Copenhagen, Denmark) required that team members memorize a quote from what famous author?

Answer: Hans Christian Andersen

In Leg 9, teams commenced their trip by heading through Copenhagen to the statue of Hans Christian Andersen in front of City Hall. There, one member of each team needed to memorize a four-line poem by the author then, using provided bikes, navigate their way to the Teatermuseet i Hofteatret and recite the poem (with dramatic flair) to get their next clue. Cindy, Cathi, Tommy, Amani, and Sandy completed this task; only Cindy and Amani got the task complete on their first try while the others had to bike back to the statue, then back to the theatre to try again.
8. In Leg 10, team members chosen to take a ride on Ford's test track got to drive which car?

Answer: Mustang

Ernie, Jeremy, Marcus, Tommy, and Bill were chosen for this task in Lommel, Belgium where each of them had to hop into the driver's seat of a brand new Ford Mustang and navigate through three different tests for the vehicles. These involved driving slalom courses in minimal time, driving at high speeds, braking properly, and performing doughnuts.

When all of these trials were complete, teams could continue on.
9. By the time teams completed the tightrope Road Block in Panama City (in Leg 11), how many Road Blocks had each team member completed?

Answer: Six

As is typical, teams needed to head into the final leg of the race with an even Road Block count, meaning that Andy, Sandy, Cindy, and Amani were required to complete this harrowing task, balancing on a tightrope and making a round trip between the two San Francisco Bay Towers in Panama City, thirty-five storeys above the ground. Completion of this task meant that all racers had completed six Road Blocks each, evenly, and with no Fast Forward completed during the race and no Express Pass used on a Road Block, this total was consistent for all teams.
10. Leg 12 (in Atlanta, Georgia) featured two Road Block tasks.

Answer: False

Although many seasons feature a double Road Block in the final leg, forcing team making their way through to evenly divide their resources to suit, "The Amazing Race 19" only features one Road Block at the Margaret Mitchell House (aka 'The Dump') where the participating team member (Ernie, Sandy, and Marcus) needed to type out their clue using an old Remington 3 Typewriter. Teams had to work out that their typewriter would be missing the number 1, so they would need to use a lower case 'L' to complete the challenge.
