Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following describes a Road Block found during the first leg of the race (in Kelowna, B.C.)?

Answer: Bungee jumping off a trestle bridge

In Leg 1 of the race, teams actually found two Road Blocks on their journey through Kelowna, British Columbia. In the first, teams had to head out onto Lake Okanagan, find a diving station, and choose one member (Brett, Darren, Hal, Dave, Tim Jr., Vanessa, Cory, Jamie, and Tennille) to dive into the waters searching for the mythical Ogopogo, who would have their next clue.

In the second, teams headed to Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park where the second member had to walk along a narrow plank under a trestle bridge, then bungee to the ground to collect the clue sending them to the Pit Stop. Kristen, Holly, Joanne, Jet, Tim Sr., Celina, Jody, Treena, and Pierre finished this one.
2. In Leg 2, teams participated in which winter sport?

Answer: Speed skating

In Leg 2, teams needed to fly to Vancouver, British Columbia where the Road Block waited outside the Richmond Olympic Oval. There, one member of each team was required to don skates and a proper speed skating outfit, then complete two laps of the Olympic rink in a minute and a half or less. Brett, Jet, Hal, Kristen, Tim Jr., Cory, Vanessa, and Jamie ended up fielding this one for their respective teams, following in the footsteps of Canadian Olympians.
3. In Calgary in Leg 3, team members completing the Road Block had to memorize which of these?

Answer: Line dance

In Leg 3, teams flew to Calgary, Alberta where, outside the Ranchman's Cookhouse, one member of each duo had to be selected for the Road Block task. In this particular instance, one member had to dress up in western garb and memorize and perform a local line dance to the satisfaction of the judges. Joanne, Darren, Jody, Holly, Vanessa, Tim Sr., and Dave ended up getting their boots on for this one, though some, especially Jody with two prosthetic feet, found the task difficult.
4. In Leg 4, team members performed a 'polar bear dip' for their Road Block in the waters of what lake?

Answer: Great Slave Lake

Flying to Yellowknife (and then, later, Carcross in the Yukon) for Leg 4, teams had to run out onto the icy Great Slave Lake to collect their Road Block task. In this one, team members were told to change into their bathing suits to perform a chilling 'polar bear dip', jumping into the frigid waters of Great Slave Lake and retrieving the clue on the other side of the opening in the ice. Team members completing this task included Holly, Cory, Hal, Dave, Tim Jr., Celina, and Darren.
5. During the fifth leg of the race, team members completed a Road Block at the headquarters for which important Canadian organization in Regina, Saskatchewan?

Answer: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Heading to the RCMP Headquarters in Regina, team members were required to go to a room in the building and properly set up their living quarters to the exacting standards of their squad leader, hanging up clothes, folding bedsheets, and assembling the space to regulation. The task, taking many teams several hours to complete, was done by Jet, Tim Sr., Celina, Joanne, Brett, and Jody.
6. Flying to Quebec, team members completing the Road Block in Leg 6 were asked to make which food item?

Answer: Crepes

Traveling by taxi to the Place de l'Université-du-Québec, the six teams were met with another Road Block, this one requiring that the selected team member take orders for crepes-- two savory and two sweet-- and make them at a nearby station containing the exact ingredients, given to them in French. Once they properly served their patrons with the tricky dishes, they would be able to continue on with the race. Dave, Holly, Cory, Vanessa, and Tim Jr. made their crepes in this leg.
7. How many individual racers ate Muktuk during the Road Block in Nunavut in Leg 7?

Answer: Five

In Leg 7, with only five teams remaining, the race headed northward from Quebec City to Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut, the northeastern-most territory in Canada. There, on the edge of the frozen Frobisher Bay, teams found a Road Block waiting at an old Hudson Bay Company Trading Post at which one member of each pair had to eat ten pieces of Muktuk without throwing it up. Muktuk, of course, is uncooked whale blubber.

The task was stomached by Jody, Tim Sr., Celina, Jet, and Brett.
8. Visiting Nova Scotia in Leg 8, teams built which of these?

Answer: Scarecrows

Traveling to Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, the final four teams had a bit of an interesting challenge awaiting them; one member of each team needed to use a Blackberry Z10 to locate a scarecrow in town, then return it to a local gazebo to build a replica out of provided materials. Once they took a photo of their scarecrow and showed it to the judge (...of this weird festival), they would be able to head off to historic Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Jet, Jody, Tim Jr., and Vanessa finished the build.
9. Which team member was last to complete the busking Road Block in Newfoundland in Leg 9?

Answer: Dave

Towards the end of the penultimate leg of the race, the four teams came across a Road Block task in front of O′Brien's Music Store in Downtown St. John's. Here, one member of each team was required to take an item of some sort from the store and use it to perform on the streets for $50. Jody, Tim Sr., Dave, and Celina all went for this task, sending them to the final Pit Stop on Cape Spear and, potentially, into the final three.

Despite overwhelming charisma elsewhere in the race, Dave (and Jet) finished last and met elimination.
10. During the final Road Block of the race, team members descended down the side of the CN Tower.

Answer: False

Not even close. In the final leg of the race, there were two Road Blocks. In the first, Tim Jr., Jody and Vanessa performed a face-first rappel forty-four stories down the side of the L Tower in Downtown Toronto. In the second, Celina, Cory, and Tim Sr. headed to the Evergreen Brickworks in the Don Valley to complete a final memory challenge.

In this task, the racers needed to recall not only the provincial flags of their Pit Stop destinations, but also the provincial flowers for each, exhibited on the lapels and headpieces of each greeter along the way. Ultimately, Tim Sr. finished first and he and his son crossed the Finish Line on Toronto Island in first place to win the race.
