Rainn Wilson plays the quirky mortician in training Arthur Martin. Rainn can be seen in "Almost Famous" and "America's Sweethearts" as well. Arthur denied sending these awful packages, though admits he still has feelings for Ruth. He is so hurt by the accusation that he resigns his position as Fisher and Diaz. The real culprit was George's estranged son Kyle.

The man was Dean Howard Kekalos, played by Bob Morrisey. Bob has guest starred on numerous TV series. Among them are "Northern Exposure", "The X Files", "Providence", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Angel" and "That 70s Show". At this party Ruth discovers that George's last relationship (not marriage) ended when he lost cellphone reception with his girlfriend as he was breaking up with her, and he never called her back.

She tried calls and emails, but George never contacted her again. Her friend told her that he'd done this before, to another professor.

Ruth agreed to join George in his annual fossil hunt in Cold Canyon. When she runs out of her water and finds out that once again George has lied to her (he'd told her he had no water, so she'd make her's last longer), she gets angry and goes to see Sarah in Topanga.

She starts crying. Since she has discovered one secret after another in George's life, she has felt very alone. Seeing her sister, and then Bettina after so long, gives her the opportunity to release some of that loneliness.

George thought that the crete myrtle needed trimming. Ruth informs George that the tree is NOT a crete myrtle at all, but a Bradford Flowering Pear that Nathaniel had planted on Claire's 10th birthday. George tells Ruth he was worried about the tree getting powdery mildew.

You can see Brooke and Ridge Forrester on the screen right before Ruth asks Bettina if she is getting on her nerves. Truthfully Bettina is just getting bored with taking Maya to the zoo or the park and wants Ruth to think of something bigger for them to experience together. This is in episode 9 "Grinding the Corn".

They drink Tequila in the cold jacuzzi. Apparently warmed and inspired by the drink (straight from the bottle), Ruth goes inside and demands the proprietors of the inn turn on the jacuzzi for a while as they are paying guests. The counter lady explains that they do not heat the jacuzzi after dark in the off seasons. Ruth explains that it is not her problem, she is a paying guest and demands heat or else she'll call the credit card and have payment stopped on the room. Finally she agrees to give them a half hour of heat, and when Ruth gets back it is already warm! Tragedy strikes during the horse ride, as one of their horses has to be killed.

Bettina's daughter gets into a small, but fun, argument with her mom and Ruth starts getting weepy. She is planning on heading home and back to George, and she says she's going to miss spending time at Bettina's.

George was in fact weepy and happy to see her. He agreed to make some changes to accommodate what she believed to be a real marriage. He comes across as totally academic, but there is a softy somewhere inside of him.
